2014 NCAA Tournament Player Pick-'Em (Rules/Draft Thread)
-
SportsAndLadyOkay my buddy should be good to go. It's not the same guy as I was talking about an hour ago in this thread, but another guy said he'll create a profile tomorrow morning and send the money.
-
Laley23Ok, well we should iron out some payments. Assuming we will have $275.
$100 - Champion
$50 - leading scorer overall
$25 - Highest overall game
$20 - Highest 1st round (when everyone has a guaranteed same amount. First 4 games WILL count to total, but not for this if they play 2 games. I will give the higher of the point total if your player plays 2 games though. If they lose in the play in, thats their only game, obviously).
$20 - MVP (TP+Seed/GP) So Parker plays 5 games and scores 109pts. His avg would be 22.2. B. Cotton as a 10 seed scores 36pts in 2 games. His avg. is a 23 and is the MVP of the 2. To be eligible, a player MUST ADVANCE to RD2. Play in game players will get only the highest pt total for the first 2 games played, not both.
$10 - Highest PLAYER each Rd.
That should be the $275. If we get a 12, we can add 1-2 more categories or more money to the existing ones (or a 2nd place money back).
Are those good with everyone, or do we want something else? -
Laley23
Awesome, he will be the 5th pick in that case.SportsAndLady;1591031 wrote:Okay my buddy should be good to go. It's not the same guy as I was talking about an hour ago in this thread, but another guy said he'll create a profile tomorrow morning and send the money. -

No doubt, lol. Was hoping to be top 2 to get either Dougie or Wiggins, but now I have no idea who I'll take.SportsAndLady;1591044 wrote:Oh hush you know you're taking mcBuckets -

My thoughts as well. Even as a 4 seed he is probably the clear #1.SportsAndLady;1591044 wrote:Oh hush you know you're taking mcBuckets -
MulvaI like the payout format posted. Is the basic format just total points? No round multiplier or seed factors?
And what is the expectation for total team size? -
Laley23
Yes, all points, outside of MVP, will be just total points scored. MVP is the only thing with any kind of math involved.Mulva;1591064 wrote:I like the payout format posted. Is the basic format just total points? No round multiplier or seed factors?

Last year I think we got 8??? But, we had at least 1 RD completed by this time. Id hope for at least 6 rds, after that, it would be extra. IMO, we have a solid group of people based on last year. Niles was the only person I remember holding us up, and it was because he had to be rushed to the hospital lol. -
Mulva
Will come down to how confident I am that Creighton wins at least 2.SportsAndLady;1591044 wrote:Oh hush you know you're taking mcBuckets -
Terry_TateMVP would have a 2 or 3 game minimum at least right? If not then someone from a 13 seed could explode round one but lose and it would be over.
-
Laley23
Sorry, I meant to put that in. MVP must win in RD1.Terry_Tate;1591077 wrote:MVP would have a 2 or 3 game minimum at least right? If not then someone from a 13 seed could explode round one but lose and it would be over.
I also havent decided if I will count the play-in for that. Probably do the same thing. Take the highest of the 2 scores for RD1 in calculating the MVP for those players, should they win the play-in and then subsequently the 1st RD. -
SportsAndLadyI say don't count the play in games.
-

We definitely should. It was key last year when people got big runs from LaSalle. Those players are more valuable...but in-theory, they are just 2 games as you can't honestly expect them to make deep runs.SportsAndLady;1591122 wrote:I say don't count the play in games. -

Tell that to VCU from a few years ago!Azubuike24;1591124 wrote:We definitely should. It was key last year when people got big runs from LaSalle. Those players are more valuable...but in-theory, they are just 2 games as you can't honestly expect them to make deep runs. -
Azubuike24Well, of course, but picks are generally made on the seed lines and then with some gut feelings. Either way, counting play-in games just slightly changes how you value a player.
-
Laley23Gotta count them in the total. I think I've made the best possible solution for the other payouts, only counting the highest of the games.
-
sportswizuhrdFor creativeness purposes, no teammates and 4 players from seeds 1-8, and 4 from 9-16. Assuming we go with 8 rounds.
-
IliketurtlesI'm not a big fan of the MVP one(can't really think of a good way to do it). All the other ones I like though.
If we do get to 12 I think 2nd should get there money back. -
Laley23
It was the best way I could think of to do it. I think it's pretty good, you get the average, but get to add the seed # one time to their total and divide by games played. I did a few samples where I used logical point totals and the averages came out relatively the same. Which was my goal.Iliketurtles;1591225 wrote:I'm not a big fan of the MVP one(can't really think of a good way to do it). All the other ones I like though.

The only thing I wanted to add was some sort of multiplier for whatever round the pts are scored in, so a elite 8 15pts is more than a rd1 15pts, but couldn't think of a way to do that without it being way to favorable to the top seeded players. -
Laley23Ok, I think I came up with a good way to do the round multiplier.
1st rd you get ptsscored
2nd rd you get pts scored x 1.1
3rd rd pts scored x 1.2
etc
at the end, you get your seed added to the total and divide it by games played. That is your "MVP" score. -
Laley23Also, wizurhd, it's gonna be too tough to have stipulations about seed numbers and players because we just simply don't know how many rounds we will get in. Having to pick players from different teams is an addition I'm not opposed to though.
thoughts on that? -
Azubuike24No stipulations. If you wanna go all ccrunner and pick your whole roster from one team, go for it.
-
IliketurtlesI like it that way a little better. Yeah I was trying to think of a way to do stuff with seeds as well. Maybe do it by .2 though so:
1st round - Points x 1
2nd round - Points x 1.2
Sweet 16 - Points x 1.4
Elite 8 - Points x 1.6
Final 4 - Points x 1.8
Final - Points x 2
But maybe this would be too much haha?
As for sportswiz's ideas I'm not a fan. I don't think we should put any stipulations on picking players. -
SportsAndLadyJust talked to my buddy, he's going to the pens game then he'll create a username on here and post. Said he'll send his $25 today too.
If for whatever reason he falls through I'll pay the 25 and take his roster that way we have 12 people. -
Laley23sounds good
Turtles, that is way to much. lol. I did simulations...
