I agree with Spencer

Just another example of sports writers trying to create a "OMG"!!!! "DID you see what he said??" type of story when there is no story here...Kid was obviously kidding if you see his tweet.

what makes this funny is Evan Spencer couldn't play for Bama or FSU.

Maybe, but it's not like he was a legacy type of offer. Was offered by Oregon and Notre Dame, among others. Had he had serious interest in those programs, it's entirely possible he could have gone to them, especially FSU based on where they were at the time.

I love what OSU is currently doing, but they still have played no one of FSU or Alabama's caliber...not even close. So until then, I would prefer players keep their trash talk out of the headlines. I wouldn't care if the media wasn't the joke that it is, run with everything and beat it to death.
FSU and Alabama haven't played anyone of Ohio State's caliber either. What a dumb argument. You're mad because a player told it like it is instead of saying boring cliche stuff that we hear every interview. Good for Spencer.

If someone is going yo talk smack it should be someone who can back it up. The fourth best WR should keep his mouth shut since he is barely relevant right now.
4th best WR on OSU, Best WR on Alabama.

How does that make this funny?

We'll have the same "bulletin board material" when we're 8.5 pt underdogs in the title game (if we make it).

And I also agree with whoever said the phrase bulletin board material is useless

I rarely if ever bet on sports, but hell if OSU is a 8.5 dog against either Alabama or FSU I'd drop a grand on OSU to cover.

This. If anyone actually watched the interview, it's obvious Spencer was just kidding around with local reporters. It was a tongue in cheek comment, and he was laughing when he said it.

Unfortunately in this day and age, context is meaningless and hyping the story is the only thing that matters.
  • Automatik
It made the front page of ESPN and then Meyer's response the next day. LOL...fucking joke.

I loved the comment. He was joking around when he said it.

Well hopefully he feels the same about Stanford because that's who we will be playing.

Yeah....bulletin board material means nothing and is useless ...LOL Yeah, you understand human nature and what motivates people.

It sounds really good and smart to say that good players don't need bulletin board material to get up for a big game.... that the game or the National Champioship is all that someone should require. But the truth is, that there are a lot of different things that motivate players, and disrespect is high on the list. Time and time again this has been proved, because it is human nature no matter how illogical it may be. Coaches all understand this, and they dread it when one of their guys shoots their mouth off...and they love it and use it when their opponents make the mistake of bragging on themselves. Maybe it doesn't make for good television if everyone gives cliche answers, so the talking heads and the fans just eat it up when someone spouts off....but you can bet that almost every coach cringes.

Meyer has gone on record saying that he used quotes and even fake quotes to motivate his team when they kicked OSU's asses in the national championship. If he believes in it, I believe in it.

Links that provide no proof of anything, other than coaches do post such drivel. So what?

Feel free to prove that it doesn't, considering that Stanford players were all over Thomas's statement. Thought so.

You might be more correct if you were talking about veteran professional athletes "rolling their eyes"....but college and below....ehhhh , not so much.

Links that provide no proof of anything, other than coaches do post such drivel. So what?
College coaches post it and use it because it works. It's just one more way of pulling a squad together in common cause.

This is about understanding what motivates people to go above and beyond what they might normally do, and that can vary per individual.
The fact that you consider it drivel, but professional coaches of Div1 programs find it worthy of using speaks more to your presumptuous ignorance than anything else.
