#4 Ohio State 63, Penn State 14

LJPenn State has the #26 passing O in the country, but only 11 passing TD. They are one of the worst rushing offenses OSU will have faced in the B1G this year (#79).
Average scoring defense. -
vball10setOSU by 21, Hyde w/200+...GO BUCKS!!!

rrfanBuckeye Defense needs to shape up in the passing game. Hyde is the MVP of the team and I will take the Bucks by 2 scores.

HereticI'd expect the same sort of game as against Iowa. Bucks have too much versatility and athleticism on offense for PSU to stop them, but the game is close most of the way (and ends at about a two-score margin), because they'll easily be able to get down the field in 5-10 yard chunks against OSU's AWESOME "lay three yards off all the receivers" style of pass coverage.
With the saving grace being that, from the stats LJ posted, PSU is great at dinking and dunking their way down the field, but not so great at finishing drives with 7 apparently. -

They are a bit more of a downfield team than a dink and dunk. Hackenberg has a big accurate arm. They attack the sidelines and the seams hard. A lot less slants, hitches and TE drags than what Iowa ran.Heretic;1521178 wrote:I'd expect the same sort of game as against Iowa. PSU scores 96% of the time they are in the redzone. 23 redzone attempts, 16 td and 6 fg. -
dlazzOSU is ripe for one of those offensive blowouts (like Nebraska last year).
OSU: 60+

I just think that if OSU plays the same sort of defense as they did against Iowa (laying off short routes, in particular), it'll be a lot easier for PSU to move the ball in small chunks. OSU has the athletes to make going deep risky, but if they're giving cushions, the inside stuff is open all day long unless there's legit pressure on the QB.LJ;1521197 wrote:They are a bit more of a downfield team than a dink and dunk. But that could be partly due to how I nearly screamed myself hoarse Saturday afternoon at how easily Iowa was getting those 5-10 yard completions and marching down the field -- to where I'm just totally pissed off and 100% sure that as long as any remotely competent team plays safe and smart, they could do the same with ease. -

The OSU defense is just too vanilla right now. They are too easy for even mediocre offenses to scheme against. Basically the formula right now is for OSU to score some kind of points on every possession, and for the defense to get 2 or 3 stops a game.Heretic;1521433 wrote:I just think that if OSU plays the same sort of defense as they did against Iowa (laying off short routes, in particular), it'll be a lot easier for PSU to move the ball in small chunks. Correct. In that game plan Hackenberg & Co. will put some points up too.se-alum;1521645 wrote:Basically the formula right now is for OSU to score some kind of points on every possession, and for the defense to get 2 or 3 stops a game.

Their plan wasn't to lay off the short routes. The LB were supposed to be covering the flat and were getting sucked into play action. They were chasing the play into the flat every time. Shazier, Grant and Perry were all awful in coverage. Spence dropping into coverage was actually in his zone, but he just isn't a pass defender.Heretic;1521433 wrote:I just think that if OSU plays the same sort of defense as they did against Iowa (laying off short routes, in particular), it'll be a lot easier for PSU to move the ball in small chunks. The linebackers should not have had a problem with those TE. I would hope that they bring more pressure this week as just with any true freshman, Hackenberg is really bad under pressure. While not the best athlete, Hackenberg can throw strikes while on the move, kind of a Big Ben style. OSU needs to collapse the pocket around him and not let him extend the play. -

Ohio State "should" be wearing its alternate rivalry uniform Saturday, a source tells me. Pink gloves, socks will be worn by players. -
