A week off will give Urban an opportunity to really assess where the strong and weak parts of the team currently are and a chance for the dinged up guys to heal up. As bad as they played against decent competition and still pulled out a victory indicates the pure superior athletic ability OSU has over most teams. BM didn't have a great game but he's still the horse we gotta ride to even sniff the NCG.

I know the goal is National Title, but secondary prize is still the Rose Bowl against Stanford or Oregon probably. That isn't a bad option, considering they have been to the Rose Bowl only twice in the last like 15 years.

Exciting win for sure last night! That being said, while I am a huge fan of Urban Meyer, I believe yesterday was his worst coaching performance since taking over the OSU program. A few examples:

    * The fake punt ... just insane and unnecessary. I like aggressive football, but that that was unneeded (reminded me of Tressel against Florida).
    * Not calling a TO late in the first half when Northwestern was killing the clock ... left our offense little time to a late score.
    * Not snapping the ball IMMEDIATELY after that 4-and-1 "stop" on Northwestern ... the subsequent review almost cost us the game.
    * Not putting in Kenny Guiton when Braxton Miller was struggling ... I know Miller is the longer-term leader of this offense, and I still back BM, but I feel the game dictated this change.
    * BONUS (not specifically about last night): His decision to retain Luke Fickell and his merry collection of defensive brainchildren last offseason ... last year was a "thank you" for Luke taking one for the team in 2011, and I get that, but bringing him back bordered on lunacy.

That's due to the Rose being a "lesser" Bowl when we were higher ranked than what it called for...just sayin'

Keep in mind that Fickell is only CO Defensive Coordinator

Miller didn't have his best game, but that can be said for a lot of players last night. He was impressive on that late TD drive, improvising, finding the open man, etc.

Then the defensive fails again and lets them right back in it.

I'll take that ugly win any day. 6-0 is 6-0. Fuck the whiners.

Uh wut? The problems on this D are on Meyer, Coombs and Withers. Fickell wants to blitz more and play man. Neyer is big on the D-line getting pressure and dropping 7 or 8. The DB's are leaving their responsibilities and playing way out of control. When you rush 3 or 4 you HAVE to get coverage sacks, but they aren't doing that because the back's are playing way out of control. Honestly, Vrabel's d line and Shazier are the only god damn bright spots on the defense. Vrabel was the only "merry collection of defensive brainchildren", the rest were ALL Meyer hires.

After last night Bennet, Bosa and Shazier are clearly the heart of the D. Bosa stepped up big time last night

Easy to criticize when it doesn't work. If we picked it up it could have been that shot in the arm that we needed in the first half.

I agree with this. We had 3 at that time, no reason not to burn one to keep Northwestern from chewing up 30+ seconds.

I'm not really concerned about this. There was no camera shot which would have changed anything.

If you take Miller out and Guiton doesn't play well, you can't put Miller back in as his confidence would be shot. I like that he had Guiton warm up, but I agree that he should have had one more chance, which he got and moved the team to score.

I do agree that I'm not a fan of the job our current defensive coaches have been doing. They have had trouble with injuries and lack of depth at different positions. But overall this isn't the defense that we're used to at Ohio State.

But part of the damage last night was self inflicted with short fields because of turnovers (or the failed 4th down conversion).

That and massive doses of soft coverage.

Well you must be in heaven because the Buckeyes have made an art form out of winning key games ugly. But - yeah - boo fucking hoo.

Oh, I know. Back in the old BCS rotation, the Rose Bowl had to host the title game, so OSU was shipped to the Fiesta Bowl, or Sugar Bowl.
Kinda of crazy OSU has played in more Fiesta Bowls than Rose Bowls in the last 20 years.
Still, the Rose Bowl this year, would not be a disappointment to me given OSU hasn't been there since 2010.

Never a disappointment heading to the Rose but given the circumstances that haven't seen us there much I'm ok with it ;)

Bosa seemed to be in the middle of every good defensive play.

The Bowls mean absolutely nothing to me as a fan anymore. As one of the 10 elite programs in the country the new dynamic is to make it to the NCG and anything less than that is simply a "feel good" reward for the players to travel to a hopefully warm locale and play what really amounts to a "game for funzies". The bowls are the reason we don't have a true play-off to begin with and I personally have no allegiance to any of them and hope one day they are a thing of the past.

    weird seeing tiernan post sober.

Its NC or bust for me. Unless they go undefeated and dont make it, the season will be a let down
  • ytownfootball
Maybe it was because you never know what the fuck you're talking about...ever.

KG is not a better passer than BM. Just stop already. BM will be QB1 as long as he is healthy. This discussion is not worthy of further consideration.

Hell KG might of but with KG and Hall at least we run an uptempo offense. I really dont think BM can do it. Hyde surely cant.

Anyone want to troll on the fact that KG is a better passer now? WTF is Miller trying to do? Throw it through his recievers? In that drive late in the 3rd when KG started throwing, I am sure that BM was told he was getting yanked if he didnt produce. He started actually running hard and getting aggressive. To bad it takes that much to motivate the kid.
They got it done. OSU won the game. STFU. Thanks.
