I agree. But it is good to see that he came back in pads so it means he could play if needed. I doubt it's needed today.LJ;1496857 wrote:Leave Brax on the sidelines -

believerCan't find much to be concerned about in today's performance, but is anyone else noticing that Drew Basil is having a tough time getting the kickoff's to go deep?
-
vball10setLovin' Kenny G, defense and special teams looks solid...let's shut them out the 2nd half and hang 70 on 'em

Tigerfan00Portland St beating Cal 20-10.

vball10setWe seem to have a tough time sustaining our dominance when we get up big. I know it's human nature to do this, but it doesn't seem to happen to other elite teams. Maybe I just expect too much.

That's the problem with playing a weak schedule. Not only does the opponent your playing on a givin Saturday stink, the one next week and the week after stink too. So you know there isn't anything to worry about, nothing to go all out for. It's why a schedule like this can not only bite them in the standings, but more imoortantly it can leave them ill prepared for real competition later in the year.vball10set;1496886 wrote:We seem to have a tough time sustaining our dominance when we get up big. Beginning in the Tressel era, Ohio state has not really been the 66-10 steamroll cupcakes team that others are. Surprisingly, this trend will probably continue in the Meyer era. It seems the philosophy is more to run out the clock, get backups some pt, and limit starter injuries. Frankly, I'm ok with this because pulling an Oregon doesn't seem to matter.vball10set;1496886 wrote:We seem to have a tough time sustaining our dominance when we get up big. From what I've been told, this is something they do on purpose from time to time and practice. They want him to kick it short but high so it gives them time to get down there. If you notice, the majority of the time they end up stopping him short of the 20. Sometimes it does backfire, back I get the idea of it.believer;1496868 wrote:Can't find much to be concerned about in today's performance, but is anyone else noticing that Drew Basil is having a tough time getting the kickoff's to go deep? -

That's not what I saw yesterday. After nearly every kickoff San Diego returned the ball to the 30 or better. Actually of the 6 kickoff's after TD's, 5 were returned past the 25 and 4 of those were past the 30. Only 1 went into the endzone and it was a touchback. Well duh.Benny The Jet;1496944 wrote:From what I've been told, this is something they do on purpose from time to time and practice. Kick that thing deep and half the time they'll down it and start at the 25. If they do run it out teach your special teams to stop the return.
The Buckeyes always seem to have a tough time stopping the return which, I suppose, speaks to the theory of popping the ball up short to give the special teams time to adjust.
It just doesn't seem to be all that effective. Do this against the better teams and all Ohio State is going to do is yield field position putting tons of pressure on the defense.
Screw the "on purpose" thing IMHO. -
