Per ESPN - Urban Meyer stepping down

  Until it actually happens, I wouldn't applaud him. I guarantee this is a cop out of his promise to stay at Florida "as long as they will have him", after he's probably been offered a hefty contract in the NFL.

  I just don't understand why he wouldn't make this statement after the bowl game. He's taking away the limelight for his (former) football team, and it's only barely a week or so away. What was the big rush, and why is it that he can't coach his football team?

  UF needs a replacement, and fast. Those recruits ain't recruiting themselves.
  
  Simply put pressure. It's high, and the sooner the monkey is off your back the sooner he can begin to come down from it. If it is what is reported I can't blame the guy one bit.

  If it's true, but that's a big if, for me. It's a bit fishy.
  
  But, just because they need a replacement, doesn't mean he could just tell them that he planned to resign and then coach the last game, and call it quits following the season. Instead, he's rushing out of it. It's not like they can't recruit without their HC, and it's not like they can't be looking for candidates to fill his spot, while he's trying to win them a BCS bowl game.
  
  It just doesn't make sense.

  his heart may not be as healthy as you think. Its stress that can cause cardiac problems which you otherwise would not have without said stress. He has arachnoid cysts on his brain that can trigger migraines. He is the most intense worker I have ever seen and the best coach. Its the only style he knows how to do his job.
  
  When the news broke on the tv, Chris Spielman was in the booth announcing. After a couple minutes, Chris said Meyer has his priorities right if it is health related. Chris said he knows a little about the topic. It says something when a man walks away from 4 million a year to do what is more important, its a tough choice and he admires Urban for it. I could tell Chris had a rough Christmas yesterday without Stephanie. But I am so glad he was the one I got the news from.

  So what am I supposed to say?
  
  Point is, he's a proclaimed fibber, and when ESPN is telling me that he's experiencing chest pains but worried about his heart, despite the fact that he's claimed it's healthy, then I have to wonder.
  
  He'll be on the sidelines next season in the NFL, mark it down.

  Abandoning his kids? C'mon, he kept their focus on the game at the end of the week where it should be, not focussing it in on him for weeks /months prior to his departure.
  
  He's done what's best for FLORIDA, not for him or fans, and I'm the furthest thing you'll find from a Florida fan.

  Let's see, just in the past couple of days you have defended 54% passer Brady Quinn and compared him (in his 3rd season) to Peyton Manning in his rookie season and also said that the Browns weren't playing him because they'd have to pay him some extra dough, even though the fanbase is tired of losing and the franchise needs all the wins they can get -this is based on your assumption that Quinn is better than DA-
  
  Now you are saying that a guy who is walking away from a ton of money, with documented health problems, who has already said he will be working at Florida next season, will be working in the NFL; even though his offense would not work at all in the NFL.

  It wouldn't put a halt on recruiting, because they would find their replacement prior to his departure. You're forgetting that he would give them the heads up and leave as soon as they found a replacement.
  
  And again you don't have to have a head coach to recruit. Much recruiting is done by the rest of the staff, and Florida is a big time program as well. Their name gets them recruits whether Jeff Tedford, June Jones, or Steve Spurrier is coaching there.

  It's funny how you left out the fact that I told you that I never thought that he was anywhere near Manning's level. I was defending the fact that you can't judge NFL talent on just a handful of starts.

  Florda wasn't even on the map 20 years ago as a destination for highly regarded recruits so their "name" getting the rec. in is a recent phenomena that just happens t co-exsist with Meyers tenure at UF.

Its just that when you post so many threads/posts and make observations it leaves you open for discussion. I don't understand how me pointing out something that I disagree with/find completely implausible equals me stalking you. Just like whenever you see one of mine (or other people's posts) you disagree with; you comment back. That is why this is a message board.

  You don't think that Spurrier had a considerably bigger part to do with where Florida's football program is?
  
  I will respectfully disagree on the HC and recruiting. Maybe I'm just not understanding your view, but I'm perfectly ok with that.
  
  But Florida's program has been elite since the mid-90's, and hasn't really slowed down. However, Spurrier is the reason why they attained their elite status, IMO.

  Ok, I see what you're getting at. But how much of Florida's success can you weigh on great coaching, compared to recruiting?
  
  I mean, Spurrier even admitted himself that he wasn't a tremendous recruiter, and that he often left the team without much depth.

  Yes it does and there are a few recruits that are down to Miami and Florida. I wonder how many recruits they will lose to this.
