Webbie, are you, or have you ever been, in the armed services? Just curious.WebFire;1530381 wrote:Look up the code. It has nothing to do with a flag being on a shirt. It is the manipulation of the flag that is the issue. -

WebFireCouple of standards of respect:
- The flag should not be used as "wearing apparel, bedding, or drapery", or for covering a speaker's desk, draping a platform, or for any decoration in general (exception for coffins). Bunting of blue, white and red stripes is available for these purposes. The blue stripe of the bunting should be on the top.
- The flag should not be used as part of a costume or athletic uniform, except that a flag patch may be used on the uniform of military personnel, firefighters, police officers, and members of patriotic organizations.
-
WebFireI guess if the military doesn't really care about the code, why even have it?
The uniforms are pretty badass, but I am surprised they did it. -

They were definitely arguing that the flag shouldn't be on anything, tshirt, sticker, napkins, etc. That's what the code says.WebFire;1530381 wrote:Look up the code. It has nothing to do with a flag being on a shirt. It is the manipulation of the flag that is the issue. -

By code, it shouldn't be. Should we care about the code? I think so. But no one seems to.Ytowngirlinfla;1530459 wrote:They were definitely arguing that the flag shouldn't be on anything, tshirt, sticker, napkins, etc.
One that chaps my ass is when people fly the flag at half staff whenever the hell they want to.
Edit: note the exceptions above. Your Navy uniform is acceptable. -

Who the hell flies it at half staff when they want to? There are messages sent out when to fly it and it gets done more often than most people think.WebFire;1530461 wrote:By code, it shouldn't be. Should we care about the code? I think so. But no one seems to.

Local towns do it all the time. Usually in remembrance or observation of something that happened locally.Ytowngirlinfla;1530465 wrote:Who the hell flies it at half staff when they want to? There are messages sent out when to fly it and it gets done more often than most people think. -

Well as long as they have permission from the Governor of the state they can fly it at half staff for local remembrances.WebFire;1530468 wrote:Local towns do it all the time. Usually in remembrance or observation of something that happened locally. -

Trust me, they don't.Ytowngirlinfla;1530476 wrote:Well as long as they have permission from the Governor of the state they can fly it at half staff for local remembrances. -

Well then call them out on it. Make them get permission. When I was on my ship I swear we had the flag at half mast every other week for something or another. They do seem to do it for unnecessary reasons.WebFire;1530483 wrote:Trust me, they don't. -

I'm not sure it would matter (well, I know it wouldn't). I do have a question though. Is there a place where civilians can see when one is ordered by the President?Ytowngirlinfla;1530486 wrote:Well then call them out on it. Make them get permission. Not sure if there is a public webiste. I know since I have access to what they call message traffic, we see the messages come out from big Navy or the government. Message traffic can be classified or unclass. I would think someone publishes unclass info which that would fall under.WebFire;1530493 wrote:I'm not sure it would matter (well, I know it wouldn't). Hmmm. How do people actually know when to do it then? Local municipalities and safety services certainly don't have access to message traffic. I pose the question because I am genuinely curious. Though way off topic now.Ytowngirlinfla;1530496 wrote:Not sure if there is a public webiste. I have no idea, I'm sure if it's coming down from say the governor of the state there has go to be a line of communication there. Emails, calls, faxes. Not entirely sure though. I can't get this page to load, it's slow. This might be what your looking for.WebFire;1530497 wrote:Hmmm. How do people actually know when to do it then? Midstate01Hawaii wore WW usa unis last year. This isnt the first time for it.

Midstate01
Boston college also wore them last year. -
WebFireWell, that makes it less cool. I thought this was an original thing.

thavoiceLocal theatre always had a flag hanging incorrectly behind the counter. For about 3 years I would just mention to the ticket lady that the flag wasnt right. I just would mention it matter of factly and did not make a big deal of it.
One time it was finally right and I said "hey, I saw ya switched teh flag to the right way" and she answered "yeah, I guess some guy kept complaining about it".
But I digress.
According to the code I dont think it is acceptable from what I know, but then again everything is a slippery slope. Now all that most care about is taht you dont actually take a flag and make it into something to wear.
Guess some are not happy about the gloves because it looks like blood spatter.
Unis look pretty cool, but I guess I am not so sure they should be used. Not big on this whole changing of uniforms all the times/fashion statements teams are making! -

I do agree there is too much uniform changing going on. It's to the point where it isn't special to do anymore.thavoice;1530663 wrote:Local theatre always had a flag hanging incorrectly behind the counter. Dr Winston O'BoogieMaybe I don't describe my opposition well. I have no problem with the mission of hte Wounded Warrior and I respect our men and women in uniform. What I don't like is this business with the new trend in college football (i.e. the "cool" unis always with the two hands held together to make the pattern) spilling over into some sort of pathetic sign of patriotism. College football is great and so is appreciating our veterans. Crossing the two is like Eminem honoring service volunteers at his concert. It's pathetic because that's not the reason the attendees are there, yet they give themselves a pat on the back and an "atta boy" all for doing absolutely nothing. Te players are football players, the fans are there to spectate. Keep it like that and don't pretend to be something bigger.
