  Couple of standards of respect:
  
  

  • The flag should not be used as "wearing apparel, bedding, or drapery", or for covering a speaker's desk, draping a platform, or for any decoration in general (exception for coffins). Bunting of blue, white and red stripes is available for these purposes. The blue stripe of the bunting should be on the top.
  • The flag should not be used as part of a costume or athletic uniform, except that a flag patch may be used on the uniform of military personnel, firefighters, police officers, and members of patriotic organizations.

  I guess if the military doesn't really care about the code, why even have it?
  
  The uniforms are pretty badass, but I am surprised they did it.

  They were definitely arguing that the flag shouldn't be on anything, tshirt, sticker, napkins, etc. That's what the code says.

  Edit: note the exceptions above. Your Navy uniform is acceptable.

  Who the hell flies it at half staff when they want to? There are messages sent out when to fly it and it gets done more often than most people think.

  Local towns do it all the time. Usually in remembrance or observation of something that happened locally.

  Well as long as they have permission from the Governor of the state they can fly it at half staff for local remembrances.

  Well then call them out on it. Make them get permission. When I was on my ship I swear we had the flag at half mast every other week for something or another. They do seem to do it for unnecessary reasons.

  I'm not sure it would matter (well, I know it wouldn't). I do have a question though. Is there a place where civilians can see when one is ordered by the President?

  Not sure if there is a public webiste. I know since I have access to what they call message traffic, we see the messages come out from big Navy or the government. Message traffic can be classified or unclass. I would think someone publishes unclass info which that would fall under.

  Hmmm. How do people actually know when to do it then? Local municipalities and safety services certainly don't have access to message traffic. I pose the question because I am genuinely curious. Though way off topic now.

  I have no idea, I'm sure if it's coming down from say the governor of the state there has go to be a line of communication there. Emails, calls, faxes. Not entirely sure though. I can't get this page to load, it's slow. This might be what your looking for.

  Local theatre always had a flag hanging incorrectly behind the counter. For about 3 years I would just mention to the ticket lady that the flag wasnt right. I just would mention it matter of factly and did not make a big deal of it.
  
  One time it was finally right and I said "hey, I saw ya switched teh flag to the right way" and she answered "yeah, I guess some guy kept complaining about it".
  But I digress.

  I do agree there is too much uniform changing going on. It's to the point where it isn't special to do anymore.

  Maybe I don't describe my opposition well. I have no problem with the mission of hte Wounded Warrior and I respect our men and women in uniform. What I don't like is this business with the new trend in college football (i.e. the "cool" unis always with the two hands held together to make the pattern) spilling over into some sort of pathetic sign of patriotism. College football is great and so is appreciating our veterans. Crossing the two is like Eminem honoring service volunteers at his concert. It's pathetic because that's not the reason the attendees are there, yet they give themselves a pat on the back and an "atta boy" all for doing absolutely nothing. Te players are football players, the fans are there to spectate. Keep it like that and don't pretend to be something bigger.
