Notre Dame 2013

Fly4FunESPN radio was saying there was serious interest from both sides. But I wouldn't be surprised if this was just a bargaining chip as mentioned.
-
killer_ewokA little off topic but Mirko Jurkovic died today. Only 42 years old....colon cancer. I got his autograph at an ND Spring game back in 1990 or 91. RIP

SportsAndLadyWho in their right mind would want Brian Kelly as their coach?!
Did they watch the title game? -

Agent Trace Armstrong reps Brian Kelly... and Chris Mortensen and Adam Schefter, according to his wiki page. Hmm. -
karen lotzlooks like Anzalone decommitted and will EE at Florida this weekend.

Kid seems skiddish. Left Ohio State because of a creepy fan, left ND because of an interview which looks to be purely for contract leverage. I hate seeing kids decommit so close to signing day for any team except for extentuating circumstances like Penn State last year.sherm03;1363124 wrote:Yep...big time bummer. -

bradmaynardIsn't EE on Saturday? So, if BK wasn't seriously considering moving to the NFL and simply wanted a raise why didn't he wait until the kids enrolled and got settled? Furthermore, he got ND to the title game and was touting the number one recruiting class in the nation. Why couldn't he simply ask for a raise? I mean can you honestly say ND has a history of withholding money from coaches that do anything remotely resembling productivity, let alone this guy's 2012 resume?

I don't understand that either. If you want more money, just ask. It's not like nd hasn't thrown an ass ton of money to a coach for going to a bcs game before. -

Good points there. I think the longer we go along without hearing about a new deal with Notre Dame the worse this gets for Irish fans.bradmaynard;1363511 wrote:Isn't EE on Saturday? Crimson streakI hear its more of a ploy to get his assistant coached more money. Right now the assistant are getting as much as a middle of the pack big ten teams. As for anzalone, the bk rumors to the nfl had nothing to do with it. He wanted to leave and go to Florida and was just using it as an excuse. (Dad is a Florida alum) either way it sucks to lose him but if he didn't want to be here then I don't want the kid to be here.

I was listening to Bill King on CSN this morning, and he laid out a scenario that he thought needed to be considered: Trace Armstrong is not only the agent for Brian Kelly, but for Chris Mortensen and Adam Schefter as well (the two who reported Kelly interviewing with the Eagles). Anzalone was reported to have de-committed from ND because of this "leaked" news, thus enrolling at Florida. Guess where Armstrong played his final year of college football? Yup, he was a Gator. Coincidence? Maybe (King's words, not mine)Crimson streak;1363706 wrote:As for anzalone, the bk rumors to the nfl had nothing to do with it. edit: Streak, for the record, I think your scenario is more than likely the way it went down. -

If Armstrong pulled that he would lose a lot of money considering Brian Kelly would fire him. So I doubt that to be true. It's all a ploy to get more money for him and his assistants. The ad was probably playing hard ball and Kelly more than likely had to take this Approach. -
vball10set^^^yeah, I see your point. It's amazing how someone (anyone, really) can come to any conclusion they desire if they connect the right dots.

I don't think he EVER wanted to go to uf. Daddy always did though. -
Midstate01I just don't buy it that bk is trying to get more money. ND always gives ridiculous money and extensions to its coaches when they have a good year. Bk could walk in the ad's door and say "pay me" and they'd bend over backwards to do it. Why wouldn't they?? If they were willing to overpay willingham and weis, why not go all in on bk too? I think bk has real interest in the nfl and his style actually fits it pretty well. But he's probably best to stay at nd.
-
karen lotzWell for one, how did over paying Tyrone and Chaz work out? There is also a different AD. Swarbrick is a little different than Kevin White. We'll very likely never know what is going on behind the scenes.
Maybe Kelly really wants to leave. Maybe he wants a raise and extension. Maybe he wants his staff to be better compensated. Maybe he wants field turf and a jumbotron. No one knows, especially people like John Clayton. -
bradmaynard
Why would he need an excuse to decommit? Are you telling me if BK didn't do the interview this week he would be in South Bend getting unpacked right now because he couldn't find a good enough reason to go to Florida? I mean just deciding on Florida being the best possible place for him to succeed based on personal preference wouldn't be a solid enough excuse to ditch last minute? Does a 17-18 year old kid even need an excuse?Crimson streak;1363706 wrote:I hear its more of a ploy to get his assistant coached more money. Also, ND was going after Meyer, Stoops, etc prior to hiring BK and those guys would demand just as much if not more than what BK could possibly ask for now only before they ever stepped foot on campus. When it comes to winning, money isn't an issue in South Bend. BK knows this, so to say this is some sort of leveraging tactic considering the school and the timing seems like a leap to me. -

I'm saying anzalone is using it as an excuse. He was gone regardless if bk interviewed or not. As for the money thing, like I said maybe the ad was playing hard ball with him about it and this was the step he needed to take to make sure his assistants don't leave and get paid like they deserve to. And you know how agents are when it comes to a new contract. They try anything possible to get you the most money -
bradmaynard
Second paragraph has nothing to do with what you said, didn't realize I used also to start it off. If he had left because he changed his mind last minute based on anything but that interview/title game performance he would have said he had a change of heart. No reason to throw a big bucket of controversy on your career before it has even started. People would respect what you claim to know for a fact more than what he did. You're telling me the kid lied despite the truth being the easier way out? That doesn't make any sense at all. What makes you so sure of this? Do you have some sort of information I'm not aware of on the situation?Crimson streak;1364116 wrote:I'm saying anzalone is using it as an excuse. He was gone regardless if bk interviewed or not. sherm03My buddy had a good point. This Anzalone thing is just karma coming back around for Gunner Kiel last year.
