Are Buckeye fans excited as they should be??

  • BigAppleBuckeye
Is it me, or are OSU fans really not savoring this 8-0 start? Maybe its because I am no longer in Ohio, not sure, but I feel like the buzz around this team is really tame compared to past successful seasons.

Yes, I get it: no Big 10 title possibility, no Rose Bowl, no National Title. But this is the beginning of the Urban Meyer era, with a likely Heisman finalists, and an unblemished record (with some close calls sprinkled in, I know). I could be TOTALLY wrong, again college football is not as big here on the east coast -- what is the vibe like back in Columbus/Ohio? I am off base here?

Last week, as I watched OSU underperform against Purdue...I didn't really care.

This season is "meaningless". I'd rather them be 8-0 next year than 8-0 this year.

If you didn't care, then why did you watch?

How is this season meaningless? If OSU goes undefeated, that means so much more for recruiting than a horrible transitional season.

I have 0 excitement at all. And given that we can't play for the B1G title or in a bowl game, I feel like that's exactly as excited as I should be.

It's not that I don't care...it's that I don't care if they drop a game. I'm more curious what they do in the off season with Fickell. I'd rather not hear all of the "experts" talk about "What could have been" if OSU does indeed go undefeated this season.

I'd rather hear them talk about next season, not this faux season.

Gotcha, fair enough, I can see that.

I want to not care, but I felt my blood boiling watching the ineptitude of (most) of the Purdue game. That being said, I am heading out shortly to get drunk with 300 or so OSU fans at a alumni bar here in New York. I will grow up someday (or so I hear) ...

Always have excitement watching the bucks. But if they lose, eh. This is a learning year. A get better year. Next year the buzz will be sky high.

Sounds like fickell is out. Sounds like Meyer is internally getting on him for his defense and sitting in soft zones. This coming from a bucknuts poster who's very respected and usually dead on and he says his source says fickell will be out.

Would love to hear more about this Midstate, can you share the link/info? Will always be a Fickell fan for taking a bullet last year, but he is not the right fit for our D coordinator.

With jbook's approval to post from a pay site, here ya go.

Okay so I spoke with my 1 connection that I have shared info from before who is a Scout for Pennsylvania and the East Coast . He is also the same guy who did Robert Foster, and recently Marshon Lattimore, and Chris Worley’s tape.
Take this info for what its worth I just wanted to share the info with you guys that I was told. As I mention before if I get some inside info I will share with you unless told other wise, other than that I just bring you guys updates.
I was told that he is surprised that Ohio State is still so into Robert Foster. He said that knowing Foster personally, he is a different type of kid. I was told that he would be surprised if Foster can even get into Ohio State that’s why Pitt is always mentioned. He also said not only is Foster a gamble with his off the field antics but he is gamble on the field because Foster carries that “ I don’t give a f*ck attitude” when it comes to pushing himself on the field. See the latest antics where he got into a fight with his coach, and then he was kicked out of his game last night.
So Boarding House has hit on a couple of topics lately and from my guy who is not a member of our community hit home on a lot of things that have also been said on Boarding House.
My guy talks to Fickell the most out of anyone on the current staff based off their relationship from the Tressel regime. I was told that Fickell won’t come out and say it but he does not like Urban Meyer. Fickell and Meyer do not see eye to eye and internally Meyer is on Ficks ass.
It started when Meyer was first hired, because Meyer was grinding Fickell to go find him more speed and more talent. So with my guy being dialed into the Recruiting in the Western PA area Fick reached out to him to see what type of local talent they have in that area.
My guy told me he even bumped heads several times with Fickell because Fickell keeps looking for thumpers but my guy told him if they want to win big and compete with the SEC he needs to change his mentality when it comes to recruiting, and start looking at kids who are athletes, kid’s that have the fast twitch motion that can’t be taught. Sadly enough my guy said he also has strong relationships with the Notre Dame Staff and those are the type of kids they are recruiting on Defense and you can start to see the turnaround in Notre Dame’s program.
Like what Boarding House said conflict between staff is dialed down because they are winning, however Fickell and Meyer are not a good match. He said Fickell is stubborn, wants to play the safe odds, and is afraid of stepping out of his box. Meyer is the complete opposite and wants to attack, attack, attack, and doesn’t give a damn about playing it safe.
Here is some local recruiting info in the Western PA area that I was told:
Boarding House mentioned two names yesterday Dravon Henry and Jaleel Fields. I was told that Henry and Fields are very much interested in Ohio State. I was told that Henry is a legit lockdown Corner who is going to blow up. My guy said he spoke to Jaleel Fields father this week and Fields really wants to be a Buckeye. He doesn’t know if Ohio State will offer, but if he does Fields will be signed sealed and deliver.
I was told that he gave Fickell a heads up on a kid before he blew up and Fickell told him he wasn’t interested. That kid was WR Will Fuller who is having an outstanding year and has committed to Notre Dame. I was told that Fuller wanted an OSU offer and when Fickell told him he wasn’t interested he introduced Notre Dame to him and after the Penn State scandal Notre Dame offered right away and closed the deal.
I was told that S Monte Nicholson is a guy who looks good in camp circuits and 7 on 7 but is a tad bit over rated once the pads come on.
There was some interest from Ohio State on ATH Tyler Boyd and Boyd wanted to give OSU a hard look but I was told OSU let his camp know for now they are not going to do anything. I was told Ohio State is confident they will land James Quick or Tony Stevens with Shelton Gibson so they don’t go with Boyd because all of those guys trump him in talent.
If Ohio State uses Tavion Jacobs right in the slot he will cause headaches for opposing Big 10 defense and he is a kid a lot people don’t talk about but his speed is legit, but he needs to put on weight.
I was told that Mariotti will have to watch how they train Jalin Marshall. Marshall is **** diesel strong right now, and once this guy get’s into a real college Strength and Conditioning program he is going to get even bigger. Pound for Pound Marshall maybe one of the strongest kids on the roster after some legit training. I was told Marshall is strong right now that he will be able to handle carries coming out of the backfield, as well as being that Wild Card who can kill you in the slot. QB for Marshall is a pipe dream.
I was told that WR Marshon Lattimore will be the next Glenville Star at Ohio State on a National Level. This kid is as good as advertised and the scary thing is he doesn’t know what the hell he is doing. Once he actually is coached up and learns the game of football he is going to give you glimpses of Teddy Ginn.
Chris Worley has a switch that turns on once he is on the field. He said after cutting up film on Worley and watching full game tapes this kid plays football to inflict pain on people. He’s tough as nails and Meyer loves him because he absolutely tries to knock some one’s d!ck in the dirt. Saying Worley might not get all of the love from the recruiting rankings but he brings that nastiness that is missing from OSU Defense now.

Great stuff Midstate, thanks for sharing. Interesting read, but hardly surprising. I always joke with my friends that Meyer has a countdown clock on his iPhone ticking off the seconds left in Fickell's regime here at OSU, but this seems to validate that.

I love fick, but I can't defend him. The defense has been bad now for 2 years...

I get fired up for Buckeye games whether we are 12-0 or 0-12.

If anyone who calls themselves an OSU "fan" isn't excited when the Buckeyes play, fuck 'em.

Kicked me out... Don't have the time to repeat what I said, but it seems just slight less than a normal excitement this year (for an undefeated team) due to the narrow margins of victory over perceived lesser teams.

    Love em anyway!
    Go BUCKS!

Alot of it is just the Big 10 being so God awful.

The Buckeyes are so clearly the best team in the conference that they are running away with it even though it seems they are sleep walking half the time out there.

Hard to get excited sometimes when the team itself seems bored playing these scrub teams week in and week out.
  • said_aouita
I'm getting the same excitement out of this season as I would any other. Still undefeated after the Michigan game we get to see where Ohio State ranks in the AP poll.

If Ohio State loses, the season won't matter as much.

GO BUCKS good read, the defense needs to become more nastier. The recruits will be comming our way!
  • vball10set
lol...we're undefeated and some fans still aren't happy
  • se-alum
I would say I'm just as excited when Gameday rolls around, but it's the stuff through the week that I haven't kept up with as much this year.

Exactly. I don't care if the Buckeyes started only recruited women; you find a way to win with adversity.

Of course the buzz around this team is tame compared to past undefeated seasons. There's no "grand daddy of them all" awaiting. Doesn't take anything away from being 8-0, tho. But of course it's... "different."

Also, you gotta believe the media is not going to say too much about OSU this season because they're supposed to be "punished" this season. So, you're not hearing the media talk too much about them. It would be like... if a kid stole a cookie from the bakery and the whole town knew about it... Well, if the kid hits a homerun to win his Little League game, the city newspaper isn't going to toot the kids horn because he still stole a cookie the week before.
