What happened to Kent State this year? After a long streak of 20-win seasons, we will be lucky to break even.

They lost basically their whole team is what happened.

In news that should shock everyone, both Akron and OU won yesterday. Those two are so far ahead of the rest of the conference this year, it's crazy. They have occasional close games (or frequent in the case of recent Akron), but do nothing but win.

Does anyone have the East vs. West curbstomp results? I know OU is 5-0 with their make-up game with EMU being their only West game left...and Akron has to be unbeaten against the West, since they're unbeaten overall...but what're the Inferior Four doing against the West?
  • ts1227
They intermixed the crossovers this year instead of sandwiching it between the two rounds of intradivisional play, so it's not as easy to track the slaughter of the West.
  • Heretic
I just added it up. With only one inter-division game to go (the OU-EMU one), it's 23-12 in favor of the East. Since OU is at home, I'd guess 24-12 will be how it would end, barring a major upset.

Not as bad as usual for the West, due to worthless fucking Miami going 1-5 against them. Take them out and it's 22-7.

Current E vs. W standings for the half that matters.
    Akron 6-0
    OU 5-0
    BG and Buffalo 4-2
    Kent 3-3
    Miami 1-5

If OU beats Akron in Athens, and each team finished with one loss, Who would be the #1 seed for the tourney?

The Bobcats looked embarrassing against Belmont of the Ohio Valley Conference.

Living in Clarksville, TN I've attended a few Austin Peay (OVC) games this season including AP's match-up against Belmont on February 9th. I kept bragging it up during that game that Belmont would be no match against the Bobcats.

Austin Peay played better against Belmont than Ohio and AP is the worst team in the OVC.

After last year's Sweet 16 run the Bobcats, despite being 20-7, are very disappointing this year. Not sure if it's the coaching change or whatever but Ohio's only hope of being invited to the Big Dance is a MAC tourney run...and based on what I'm seeing the Bobcats will be fortunate if they even get an NIT invite.

They've stunk in every single "step up " game they've played. And with the weak-ass schedule they've had, there haven't been many of those opportunities. Entering this year, I thought they had a legit shot at being a MAC team that didn't HAVE to win the conference tournament to get in, considering how everyone's back from last year's Sweet 16 run. But losing to a handful of scrubs, getting blown out by Belmont and Memphis and losing by double digits at Akron are all things that cannot happen for something like that to happen.

It's either win the conference tournament or NIT. They've been too dominant in the MAC (other than vs. Akron in that game) for anything else unless they'd lose out or something, but they're about a million miles away from where they were at the end of last year. Which sucks.

FWIW, I dont think OU got hot last year until this time, and had the same record going into the bracketbuster last season. I think the Akron game this Wednesday will make or break their season.

Lets see how well Christian gets them ready.

I be at the game Wed in the Convo, So hopefully they play better

There is no way the MAC runner up even gets considered for a minute for an at large. Outside of Akron and Ohio, the conference is fucking horrible. Therefore, all any selection committee sees of the conference play is 14 wins against complete shit and the 2 OU/Akron games are the only relevant games.

Akron will definitely have a shot if they win out and would lose in the championship to Ohio. A long shot, but a shot nonetheless. Really needed OU to beat Belmont.

Unfortunately the Bobcats weren't even close to beg prepared for that.

The MAC is terrible this season.

Akron will win the tourney easily and most likely go one and done in the NCAA.

Zips ranked #24 in the coaches poll. Bilas has them in as an at-large.

The MAC is terrible every year and history would say Akron would go one and done, so you arent really saying anything anybody doesnt already know.

However, Akron is getting a lot of hype from guys like Katz and Bilas. A poll during the OU game had Akron as the second favorite mid-major to make a run in the tourney behind Wichita St.

Usually the West is just horrible, this year 10 teams are horrible. It's a new level of shittiness.

On the at-large note...I heard that if a team is ranked in the coaches and AP poll at the end of the season, they automatically get an at-large. It would make sense, but I cant seem to find a link saying that.

IF that is the case, there is no doubt in my mind that the Zips would be ranked in both polls (coaches 24th, AP 28th right now) at the end of the season if they won out; hell probably next week.

Thats what I thought since I could find it. Still do not see a team ranked in both polls being left out.

Its only happened once recently, and I think only twice since the tournament has expanded. But it used to be the NCAA Commitee only selected 1 team per conference, so it happened quite often back in the day, Id imagine.

2004, #25 Utah State was left out. UNLV at #25 was also left out in the 1990's.

Actually, in 1940, Purdue won the Big Ten, but Indiana who finished 9-3 (Purdue was 10-2) was selected fro the NCAAs. They went on to win the Championship! lol

Oh I understand that but after Ohio made the Sweet 16 run last year and basically returned the bulk of that squad this season, I had high hopes for a spectacular season.

To be fair, in most other years if the Bobcats were 20-7 at this point I'd say we're having a good year. But for some reason the Bobcats may as well be 7-20 at this point because that's exactly how it feels.

I hope Akron does make a good run in the Big Dance.

Reps for stating my feelings perfectly. Except for the final sentence. Still holding out hope, as all it takes is one win over Akron in the MAC finals to put the Bobcats in.

But after last year, I might not have been expecting Tark-era UNLV-style success, but I was thinking that a really good record like 25-2 would be very possible. 20-7 is great for a small-conference team most years, but with what we had returning after the postseason they had, it is quite uninspiring.
