I have a feeling Gonzaga will fade away early in the tournament per usual, but this Butler team, the way it just refuses to die -- tonight marked the third buzzer beater of the season for the Bulldogs -- I think it's going back to the Final Four. It has that feel about it. It's a very, very good team. Tough as a hammer.

...at home.

Still TBD on a neutral court.

The "WTF" of the day.

Utah (0-5) wins at Washington (4-0) at one of the toughest home courts in college basketball. The game was only a 9-point game, but Utah led by double figures for an amazing 37 of 40 minutes.

Especially when Clarke gets back. He is capable of carrying a team if he is on. Probably the best shooter in the NCAA along with hulls from Indiana.

I'm not a huge college ball fan...but does butler have a shot at a 1 seed in the tourney? Three really good wins this year so far
• Prescott
I agree with Rec about Gonzaga. It is a little troublesome that they could not get shots for Pangos.

As for Butler, I will wait awhile to make an assessment.Teams that win games they should lose will eventually stop winning those games. The good fortune does not last forever.

Last night, Clark's perimeter production was replaced by Stegall and Dunham and Jones had a career game. It still took a Stockton error for Butler to win. The environment had to be worth 5-7 points to Butler.

Dick Vitale completely ruined that moment for me. Obnoxious.

Did Butler not beat Indiana at Conseco Fieldhouse? Did they also not beat a very talented, albeit underachieving, North Carolina on a neutral court by almost 30?

Admittedly was a little drunk when I posted that...however, There were a lot of IU fans at Conseco from what I remember. Not a true neutral court game (i.e. an NCAA tourney game).

UNC is meh.

Haha. And while I agree on UNC being average this year at best, the Heels do have a handful of McDonald's All-Americans, enough talent to be selected as a Top 15 team by "experts" in every major preseason poll, and a HOF coach. For Butler to outplay Carolina by more than 30 points (at least at one point in that game) is an impressive feat any way you look at it.

Also, Sports, just reread your post and wouldn't it actually make it even more impressive that Butler beat Indiana in a venue that was, as you say, full of "a lot of IU fans"? It was definitely a pro-Hoosier crowd.

So far, Butler has non home-court wins over then No. 8 North Carolina, Marquette and No. 1 Indiana as well as a victory over No. 8 Gonzaga. All four are currently projected as NCAA Tournament teams, two of them are considered real threats to reach the Final Four, and one is a serious national title candidate. The Bulldogs have a top 30 strength of schedule and are top 15 in the RPI. With a 16-2 record, including 13 straight wins, through that gauntlet, Butler is plenty battle tested IMO.

Northwestern making a rather boring Sunday afternoon prior to the NFL conference championship games starting pretty interesting. The Wildcats got to within four of Indiana at one point in the second half, but the Hoosiers appear to be pulling away. It's usually pretty tough no matter who you are to get a victory in Evanston.
• reclegend22
Indiana leads Northwestern 60 to 53 with 58 seconds to play. The cats hung in there as long as they could, but IU will hold on.
• Mulva
That Northwestern court is terrible.

I actually kind of like the purple-stained floor in Welsh-Ryan Arena. It's a nice change of speed to all of the other bland, "Phoenix Suns-styled" courts that have no tone to them and are just the color of wood. At least that's my opinion.

When did using paint to color courts become unpopular? I always liked the old O-Dome floor at Florida from the Teddy Dupay era:

N.C. State apparently only knowingly schedules one game each year, and unfortunately that game is Duke. It's pathetic, honestly. It was the same situation when Sidney Lowe was at the helm. Against Duke, State plays like the 1986 Celtics, almost without fail, and then the next game loses to East Coast College.

The Wolfpack were tied tonight with Clemson, who lost to Coastal Carolina by 23 and Duke by nearly 30, with a minute left in Raleigh, escaping in the final seconds. This after losing to an average Maryland team earlier in the week, and getting decimated by Oklahoma State and Michigan earlier in the season. With all that talent, Mark Gottfried is not impressing me.
• Azubuike24
I like Gottfried's approach and attitude, but there's a reason he got fired at Alabama. There were a few years he had some bad injuries (Chuck Davis, Kennedy Winston to season-enders in separate years and of course, Ronald Steele's whole career), but still, they underachieved even with top 3-5 talent in the conference.
