Agreed. To say otherwise is to not be facing reality and not being objective about what Duke has accomplished in its overall body of work. The numbers don't lie.Ironman92;1404091 wrote:If Duke wins one game in the ACCT they will be a #1 seed. -

Hopefully they don't blow it like they did against Lehigh. :thumbup:reclegend22;1404100 wrote:Not the overall No. 1, but if Duke reaches at least the semis of the ACC Tournament and loses a close game to UNC, they've still got a one seed. -

If Miami beats duke in the acct how can you justify putting duke as a 1 seed over Miami? Miami would have beaten duke twice. And no way in hell the ACC gets 2 #1 seeds considering how weak it was this year. -
sleeperIf Miami wins the tournament there is a 0% chance Duke gets a 1 seed as well. No way the ACC is getting two one seeds after how shitty the conference was this year.

Azubuike24For those who think Duke is guaranteed a 1.
Gonzaga wins out.
Indiana wins out.
Louisville or Georgetown wins out.
Miami wins out.
Duke loses in the semis or the finals.
Who are you're #1 seeds? This is a very plausible scenario. -

Reread my post. I never said anything about Duke losing to Miami. If Duke loses to Miami, then Duke would be in trouble. If Duke wins one game in the ACC Tournament, though, and then loses to North Carolina in the semis, the Blue Devils will still get a number one even if Miami wins the ACC. Duke's numbers are just better overall than Miami's in that scenario, and they would have split in their only two matchups.Crimson streak;1404105 wrote:If Miami beats duke in the acct how can you justify putting duke as a 1 seed over Miami? SportsAndLadyIt doesn't matter if Duke loses to Miami or any other ACC team, if they lose in the semi's they're not getting a 1.
Not that it really matters, as the difference between a 1 and a 2 is really nothing lol -

Indiana, Gonzaga, Georgetown/Louisville, Duke (as long as Duke doesn't directly lose to Miami and doesn't lose to anybody else but North Carolina)Azubuike24;1404108 wrote:For those who think Duke is guaranteed a 1.

That's my view at least. Although, Kansas is up there too if they win out. That's a lot of scenarios though. -
Azubuike24Would you want to coach a team that featured at least three one-and-done players, Rick Pitino said:
"You know, I wouldn't care if the pros say the young man is one and done and he goes. But I don't go in the home and say, 'You're a one-and-done and my program is a one and done program.' I don't do that. I go in and recruit the young man and if he asks me how I would feel about it, I say, 'If you're good enough."
Coach Cal's response:
If you can't get those kids, that's the kind of comment you make. That's what you say."
Love him or hate him, he doesn't mince words. -

As Duke and Missouri experienced first hand last year -- and Iowa State '01, South Carolina '97, Arizona '93 and Syracuse '91 -- there's definitely a major difference historically. Six 2 seeds have fell to 15 seeds in the NCAA Tournament, while zero number ones have.SportsAndLady;1404111 wrote:It doesn't matter if Duke loses to Miami or any other ACC team, if they lose in the semi's they're not getting a 1.

Azubuike24Rec, not to turn this into a Duke/ACC thread (we already have one), but are you telling me you would overlook a regular season and ACC Champion for another team in the same conference?
I'd think this scenario would be unprecedented... -
SportsAndLady
I meant in the tournament overall. Obviously you have a much better chance of winning your first round game as a 1 seed than a 2 seed, but it's not like Duke is losing to a 16 or 15 seed, which is what I meant.reclegend22;1404117 wrote:As Duke and Missouri experienced first hand last year -- and Iowa State '01, South Carolina '97, Arizona '93 and Syracuse '91 -- there's definitely a major difference historically. I guess I will have to backtrack here and say no, but only because I sort of backed into this argument after the Miami angle was brought up above. I do not believe Miami will win the ACC championship, and never have. That's why I believe that if Duke loses in the ACC semis, they'll still get a one seed.Azubuike24;1404118 wrote:Rec, not to turn this into a Duke/ACC thread (we already have one), but are you telling me you would overlook a regular season and ACC Champion for another team in the same conference?

While it would probably be an unprecedented situation, IMO Duke would still have the better overall number one seed resume if the Hurricanes did win the ACC Tournament. The Hurricanes have lost to four teams with an RPI of 73+ (Wake, Georgia Tech, Florida Gulf Coast, Indiana State) and finished the season with 3 losses in their last five games. I just do not think that is the resume of a one seed. -

But but but Ryan Kelly -
reclegend22
You can deny his importance to Duke all you want, but his presence changes the entire picture for Duke. I am going to save the rest of you from further Ryan Kelly analysis, but without him, the Blue Devils at best might be a second round team. With him, they can win a title.Crimson streak;1404128 wrote:But but but Ryan Kelly
The benefit of his presence offensively should be clear by now -- he opens up the floor for Duke's shooters and gives Mason Plumlee room to operate in the middle without being doubled down on -- but where Kelly might be most effective for Duke is on the other end of the floor. He's a versatile defender who can guard multiple positions on the floor and takes pressure off of Mason Plumlee in the low post. When Kelly was sitting, Plumlee had nobody to help him in the paint defensively, and that led to Plumlee playing tentatively many games as he was weary of fouling out.
Here are some stats from ESPN: Before Kelly's injury, Duke ranked 25th in the country in defensive efficiency and 24th in opponent field goal percentage. Without him, Duke ranked 197th in the country in defensive efficiency and 306th in opponent field goal percentage. Kelly was holding opponents to 21.8 percent shooting this season as an on-ball defender, the fourth lowest field-goal percentage in the country. He also held opponents to 0.52 points per play, which ranked sixth in the country. -
MulvaBorder war for the Summit League tomorrow. North Dakota St - South Dakota St. Gotta hope Nate Wolters gets into the tourney.
There are really going to be some interesting teams on the 13-15 lines if things hold up. Bucknell, SDSU, Davidson, Iona, Long Beach St, even Gulf Coast. None of those teams will be intimidated. -
sportchamppsGrantland on ESPN has a most hated players in college basketball of the last 30 years. The number one seeds in the bracket are Jalen Rose, Tyler Hansborough, Patrick Ewing, and Lattner. I seem to remember Webber being more hated then Rose but I was young. Aaron Craft made the cut as a 7 seed. The brackets are 80's 90's 00's and Duke. http://www.grantland.com/story/_/id/9038798/a-tournament-determine-most-hated-college-basketball-players-last-30-years

It amazed me that Adam Morrison is a fucking 3 seed. He would probably be my most hated. -
dlazzJJ Redick was easy to hate. Loved watching him brick those free throws in the clutch during the tournament.
Also, Wright State is playing for their chance to make the big dance tonight.
I think the game is on at 9 on ESPN -

Once again, no one hates Duke. What people hate is their basketball only fans(read: their entire fan base).sportchampps;1404166 wrote:Grantland on ESPN has a most hated players in college basketball of the last 30 years. Before Ohio State got good at basketball again, this is the precise reason why people hated Ohio State fans. The basketball fans, except for the true diehards, which I am sure there are many here, didn't come out of the woodworks until Mike Redd, disappeared back into the woodworking for a few years, then returned from the woodworks with the arrival of Greg Oden.sleeper;1404204 wrote:Once again, no one hates Duke. The difference between me and that fan is that if Duke all-of-sudden became a national title contender in football, I would still care about Duke football as much as I do West Indies cricket.
There is nothing wrong with a one-sport fan. And if you think I am badwagon -- and I know that you do -- then so be it. -

Oh right, because one just chooses by chance to be a fan of a private school in a small town in North Carolina. Well, not the school, but just the basketball team and only when they aren't getting blown out by Lehigh. All by chance, not bandwagon at all. :laugh:reclegend22;1404370 wrote:Before Ohio State got good at basketball again, this is the precise reason why people hated Ohio State fans. NilesPacManESPN has a pretty good piece on the Big East today. Loved how they made the article into an oral history rather than trying to tell the story themselves.

As someone who supports Duke win or lose, 0-40 or 40-0, GFY. Just joined, but by reading some of your posts, my dream in life is that one day you will post something intelligent. Until then, I will choose to chat with people who don't masturbate in their mom's basement for a living. Oh, and one more thing, you screwed up my order at Burger King yesterday, I wanted a large drink f***stick.
