ironman02Since beating Duke, Virginia has taken a nose dive. They lost to BC and just lost to FSU.
-
ironman02The Maryland-UVA game on Sunday will be HUGE for both teams.

That's what happens to every team after playing like the Globetrotters against Duke. N.C. State lost five of seven games after beating Duke. Maryland lost three of its next five. Virginia has lost two in a row.ironman02;1402344 wrote:Since beating Duke, Virginia has taken a nose dive. They lost to BC and just lost to FSU.
The only team that continued its high level of play after beating Duke was Miami, and even they were shaky in many of their games before eventually dropping three of four down the stretch.
It makes me sick. -
Ironman9202 thinks he's an AP writer or something.....you know everything don't you

LOL. Wonder if those guys read the OC? That would be interesting.Ironman92;1402366 wrote:02 thinks he's an AP writer or something.....you know everything don't you -
Ironman92They did a pretty good job overall....it really upset you though. Like when the band doesn't play during the offensive snap count.

Laley23I seriously wonder how Wisconsin ever wins a game sometimes?
Also, HOW THE FUCK does Bo Ryan get anyone to go to that school. 20 pts with 10 mnutes to go @ MSU. The craziest thing is, its not that far off their norm. They usually have 30-something at this point. Who wants to play in that system. And its Wisconsin...not like youre on a beach or something. -

He "Likes" them a lot on FB prolly. -
reclegend22Raise your hand if you can spot the person here who doesn't like Wisconsin. Lol.

Azubuike24Well, tonight was a terrible game for the Cats. I mean, very little effort. Win or lose, it's just not even something to be proud of. The 2 Gillispie years were pretty lean, but for the most part, the kids he had did give 100% effort.
I think I'm with most UK fans who will chalk the season up to something completely opposite of the last 2 years. Talent or not, cohesiveness and chemistry is hit or miss when bringing together a new group. It appears Alex Poythress and Archie Goodwin, probably 2 of the 3 who have gotten the most criticism, will use the "Kentucky Effect" to vault themselves into first round picks without showing anything to prove their worthiness.
If there is any concession, I think it's safe to say I can enjoy the tournament without feeling the "pit" in your stomach watching your school play. Maybe it's for the best after losing their best player, and clearly the heart and soul of the squad. -
Azubuike24In other news...
Butler won at UMass. The Minutemen were starting to enter the conversation for an at-large bid, this loss hurts them.
Virginia loses at FSU, tough loss, but shouldn't really affect their spot. It may knock them down in the conversation for the play-in game, which wouldn't be good news for them.
Colorado crushing Oregon. Nice win for the Buffs. Brings UCLA and Cal back into the conversation for the Pac 12 title.
New Mexico State about to hand Louisiana Tech their first loss in WAC play. If not for some bad early losses, NMSU could've been in the at-large category. Should be a decent semifinals and on in the WAC. -
SportsAndLadyUK basically with a play in game this Saturday against Florida

While I dont like Wisconsin at all. It 100% stems from their style of play, which doesnt make my point invalid (I think that all made sense). I seriously do not understand why anyone would want to play there if you had any other viable options.reclegend22;1402411 wrote:Raise your hand if you can spot the person here who doesn't like Wisconsin. reclegend22This Gonzaga as the No. 1 overall seed talk is hilarious. The Bulldogs' three best wins this year are against K-State, Oklahoma State and Saint Mary's. They lost at home by 11 to a middle-of-the-pack Big Ten team (Illinois) and to the only solid mid-major they faced (Butler). The double-digit loss at home to Illinois is a red flag, in my opinion. And I really don't think K-State and Oklahoma State are as good as their rankings have appeared.
At this juncture, the No. 1 overall seed should either go to the winner of the Big 10 Tournament (if it's Indiana, Michigan State or Michigan -- assuming Michigan doesn't lose to Indiana again) or Duke (if it wins the ACC Tournament) or Kansas. If Gonzaga were in the Big 10 or the ACC, it would have a handful more losses than it does right now, and that's a charitable estimate.
I cannot wait for Gonzaga to once again get upset in the tournament. -

Sorry Rec just couldn't help it lol. But I agree no way should the Zags be the #1 overall seed. -
Fly4FunI hope the Zags are not the #1 seed but a #1 seed and become the first #1 seed to lose their opening game so people will finally stop talking about them.

LOL. I almosted posted that same thing myself after I read my post and then thought about what I said about Laley. Nicely played.Iliketurtles;1402491 wrote:Raise your hand if you can spot the person here who doesn't like Gonzaga. Lol.

Laley23Gonzaga probably doesnt deserve the #1 overall seed. But they aint losing to a freaking 16 lol. They have dominated everyone they have faced at that level (16 seed). I expect them to be in a TIGHT Sweet 16 game that can go either way. But if they win, I dont think they make the Final Four.
It also doesnt really matter if they are #1 overall or just a #1. No one else is headed out West, so #1 overall or #1 in general they are locked in, essentially, to the West bracket. -
reclegend22
This is a good point, but listening to Joe Lunardi talk about Gonzaga you'd think he was describing the Orlando Magic on NBA Hang Time. It's just ridiculous. The Zags have done nothing to prove they warrant the No. 1 overall seed hands down, which is pretty much what Lundari is indicating. As you say, though, it doesn't really matter. The Selection Committee admits that it doesn't use an S-curve when determining what other teams to group with the number ones and the Zags are headed out West anyway.Laley23;1402530 wrote:It also doesnt really matter if they are #1 overall or just a #1. I will be rooting hard for BYU and Saint Mary's in the West Coast Conference Tournament. -
Azubuike24Yes, I find it hilarious people are knocking the Zags yet Michigan lost to Penn State. Indiana lost in Indy to Butler (who the Zags lost to at Hinkle on a fluke play by 1). Miami lost to Georgia Tech. There have been countless other losses.
Sure, they might be overrated in the eyes of many, but to think they are going to be "exposed" as early as round 1 against a 16-seed is foolish. Please, tell me the 16 they are going to lose to... -
Fly4Fun
I realize that, but of all the teams out there that can feasibly get a #1 seed in the NCAA tournament (this year and any other year) Gonzaga (followed by Duke) are the two programs that I would most enjoy watching become that distinguished team in history. It most likely won't happen this year, just like it most likely won't ever happen (hey it could, just very long odds but TCU/Kansas and UM/Penn State), but I was just stating something I would like to see.Laley23;1402530 wrote:Gonzaga probably doesnt deserve the #1 overall seed. I also think Miami is overrated. They have a few losses on their resume besides Georgia Tech that shouldn't be there for a team rated that high.Azubuike24;1402569 wrote:Yes, I find it hilarious people are knocking the Zags yet Michigan lost to Penn State. But ya, I just think Gonzaga is a team that is overrated annually. That's all. They are the Virginia Tech (football) of basketball. -
reclegend22
Never have I said anything remotely close to this. I do, however, think Gonzaga will lose in the second round. I think the Sweet 16 is the absolute fartherest they will get.Azubuike24;1402569 wrote:Yes, I find it hilarious people are knocking the Zags yet Michigan lost to Penn State. And while I did group Michigan in as a potential one seed above, I have already made my case about Michigan known. I think the Wolverines are on the outside looking in at a one seed.
To say that Gonzaga is more deserving of the number one overall seed over Indiana and Duke is preposterous. And the Zags' body of work does nothing to refute that. -
Azubuike24Yet if Louisville or Michigan or someone else loses in the Sweet 16, will they get bashed and called overrated?
That's the thing. We should just accept that this year is so wide open, it will be a great tournament, but also really a stretch to bash anyone for a loss after the first round...especially if you aren't a #1 seed. Now, if the Zags are a #1, obviously the pressure mounts on them greater than it has in any other year. -

TCU is just terrible. Kansas made amends for that lose. But that is a good example, despite it being a home game and not neutral for them.Fly4Fun;1402575 wrote: It most likely won't happen this year, just like it most likely won't ever happen (hey it could, just very long odds but TCU/Kansas and UM/Penn State), but I was just stating something I would like to see.
PSU is better than the 16 seeds though, IMO. Especially neutral site. My guess is their RPI is within 20 either way of them (six 16 seeds.) -
