9/15: #20 Notre Dame (2-0) at #10 Michigan State (2-0) 8:00 on ABC

killer_ewokThe Fighting Irish travel to East Lansing to take on the Spartans. Both teams are 2-0 and ranked in the top 20. Michigan State has beaten Boise State (17-13) and Central Michigan (41-7). Notre Dame defeated Navy (50-10) and Purdue (20-17).
Le'Veon Bell will certainly draw the attention of the Irish defense and Andrew Maxwell will get a chance to take some shots at the young and inexperienced ND corners. Everett Golson will remain the starting QB but it looks and sounds like Kelly will be playing Tommy Rees in two-minute offense situations. Irish RB Cierre Wood returns after serving a 2-game suspension for a violation of team rules. Notre Dame only managed 52 rushing yards on 36 attempts against Purdue.
I think Michigan State wins this one by 10 points. ND will have to play much better than they did last week in order to have a chance to win this game.
GO IRISH -
vball10setMSU by three...late.

sherm03Gonna be a tough game.
Let's hope all of the injured are back and 100% for Saturday. The O-Line needs to play much better, and the run game needs to show up for Notre Dame to even have a chance.
I'm worried about the secondary, but I'm just used to always worrying about Notre Dame's secondary.
It's going to be tough, and I was hoping Golson would have had a better game to build off of before going into his first true road test.
I think ND stays in it, but falls at the end. MSU by a last second TD. -
sleeperMichigan State in a romp. 28 - 3
-
Laley23MSU by 2 scores. Irish will need the front 7 to be huge and get quick pressure on passing plays, to make for shorter coverage time for the secondary.

GOONx19I'd love for MSU to wear them down before the UM game. I honestly think Notre Dame has a shot in this one, though. Defense needs to step up for them.

You're not allowed to say that on this thread.
MSU, and if ND plays like the did last week, it'll definitely be over 20 pts. -

Lol. Nice rebuttal. I watched the ND game last week, and I was far from impressed. -

Lol. No. I said IF ND plays like they did last week. Nice try. -

If you think that ND team that played against Purdue shows up against this weekend and gets beat by 20, I stand by my first sarcastic comment to you. -
Crimson streakI think notre dame matches up well with sparty. Msu likes to run and notre dames run d is there strength. Wood will be back which is huge not only in the run game but he's a great pass protecter also. Nd-msu games are always close I expect this to be no different

I have it on my iTunes. Such a classic.
Michigan State choked on applesauce!
Note to John L Smith. Learn the effin rules and understand that timeouts aren't like cell phone minutes, they don't carry over! -
0311sdpIt'll be close, I'll take MSU 24-17, MSU gives up it's first offensive TD of the season. I'm not sold on either of these teams QBs, I think both running games get slowed down we'll see which QB steps up. I like MSU's defense to make the difference.

For Notre Dame? I'm not sure what game you watched.GOONx19;1267148 wrote:Defense needs to step up for them.
Purdue scored 1) when they were given the ball on the 15-yard line (and scored on 4th and ten), and 2) when they returned the kick to the ~50. Notre Dame held Purdue to 198 yards passing and 90 yards rushing. Seven of Purdue's eleven drives were for less than fifteen yards. If they did that every game that'd be perfectly fine. They did that with their backups in at WDE, FS, DOLB, and freshmen at CB, DE and FS.
The defense did make mistakes, like the missed tackles by Russell that sprang Purdue's WR down the sideline 2-3x. I would bet that that situation is fixed shortly. I also doubt you'll see Carlo in on third downs. I expect Fox to be in there with Councell playing DOLB. -
GOONx19^ I mean, I'm not saying they didn't play well, but they'll need to play to that level again, and also force a TO or two to stay in the game. With all the sacks/short-to-negative running plays -- against a Purdue defense, nonetheless -- it doesn't look like the offense will give them a whole lot to work with. Sparty's defense is a class above, and the ND defense is gonna need to turn it into a churner to keep it close.

sjmvsfscs08Michigan State's LBs are better, but Purdue's DL is equal and their CB is first-team B1G. Purdue has a fine defense.
But yeah, Michigan State is better. No one disagrees there. -
dazedconfusedwhy isn't gameday at this game?
