Also, if this was a fumble and not a muff, who is stupider, the guy for running the wrong way, or the guy tackling the guy running the wrong way?

Loved it. About 5 things wrong. First a muffed punt. Then returned the wrong way. Then guys blocking for him. Then guys tackling him. Then the whole play was dead when he picked it up lol.

Get used to this on Sundays until they get the ref issues resolved :(

The refs got it right, though. After the play finished, they spotted the ball at the 6 or 7 yard line.

I dont understand why the play was dead once he picked it up. That a new rule or something? Somebody please explain.

It is not a new rule. When a punt is muffed(not a fumble), it dead as soon as the punting team gains possession, with no advancement possible(even if it is negative advancement). It would only be a fumble if the punt receiver catches it and holds on long enough to establish possession.

No, it has been rule as long as I have been alive.
  • Pick6
Thanks. Never realized that was a rule I guess. But then again you don't see muffed punts advanced normally.

    Why does the rule exist?

Because how can you have a turnover if the other team never possess the ball?

But it was a turnover, Kent got the ball.

No. Towsen never had possession of the ball, therefore it was not a turnover because the kick never ended.

I was expecting to see a Shane Falco like tackle by one of his own teammates.

This play is kicking Barry Zito's 30 foot eephus pitch's ass in the "Worst of the Worst "voting for the Sportscenter not top ten.
