exactly. Coaching ends in practice. I heard that the NCAA is thinking about just sending the players to the games and letting the coaches stay at home. No need wasting dollars and time.wildcats20;1136015 wrote:Yup, coaches don't draw stuff up in timeouts in division 1 college basketball. -

Look for a rule banning marker boards and markers in timeout huddles. Halftime will also be eliminated because no adjustments are made there either. -

Sure they do, for unusual last second shots, Turner in the Big Ten Tournament. Even that play was ran at one point or another in practice during the season. But had to be drawn up again at that moment since it had never been used in a game before. But a coach at a Major University in the NCAA Final Four is not going to draw up a COMPLETELY NEW, never ever run in practice, never ever seen before, in the middle of the game. -

Sure they do, last second once in a decade plays. Like Turner in the Big Ten Tournament. Even that play had been run in practice at one point in the season. Since it was an unusual play, for an unusual moment, it needed to drawn up again at that juncture. A coach might draw up a rarely used play, one that has been practiced, but not very often. But what a coach will not do is draw up a never before seen, never before practiced, brand new on a whim play, in the middle of the 2nd half in the NCAA Final Four.wildcats20;1136015 wrote:Yup, coaches don't draw stuff up in timeouts in division 1 college basketball. -
wildcats20Yup, read that the first time.

So, you have been in a timeout huddle at an NCAA Final Four game??? -
Laley23If the players dont remember the play, whats the difference in drawing up a new one or drawing up one ran 1 time in October?
"Pacer" arguably the 2nd most memorable shot in NCAA Tourney history, was a play for Valpo guard Bryce Drew to get open. They had never run the play in practice, and the players didnt know what it was. The coaching staff, had however, gone over several end of game situations and come up with plays. So they knew what to draw up, but it was brand new to the players.
This argument is dumb. Any coach in America will tell you he has drawn up specific plays for players and situations in a game. -

That is all I am saying. If a coach sees something and he thinks he can get a lob or an easy dunk...or just a clear out for Thomas..or whoever, he will do it.Laley23;1136074 wrote:If the players dont remember the play, whats the difference in drawing up a new one or drawing up one ran 1 time in October?

Bob Knight was famous for getting the ball into the hot players hands. He has openly criticized many coaches for not drawing up plays for players who score a lot in the first half, then get like 4 shots in the second half. Roy Williams, with Harrison Barnes, comes to mind to me right now.wes_mantooth;1136075 wrote:That is all I am saying. And that play has undoubtedly been run in practice before, but not often. So it is "drawn up" in the timeout huddle. All I am saying is in the middle of a game a coach is rarely if ever going to draw up a play on a whim, not even discussed among the coaches before, during a regular not special TV timeout.wes_mantooth;1136075 wrote:That is all I am saying.
