Of course, all the UC fans are now coming out of the woodwork. Which isn't surprising now that they have made the sweet16. But whatever.
I only see one UC fan on this thread. I have been not shy about supporting the Bearcats on this and on JJ's for years. To my knowlede there are only a couple other guys who post on a regular basis who are also UC fans: goosebumps and dave (who is also a Michigan/Toledo guy).

A lot of the times they don't even look his way. Sully will definitely need to play good d on gates but as we have seen he doesn't and fouls a lot. I could definitely see sully being in foul trouble early. If Ohio state rebounds like they did against gonzaga gates will eat up a lot of offensive put backs on Ohio st. It's too bad I gotta work Thursday it's going to be a damn good game. Killpatrick needs to bring his a game for cinci to win
I would be SHOCKED if OSU rebounds as poorly as they did last game. That was an enigma IMO. On the season, they have been a VERY Good rebounding team. Even out rebounding MSU. It was a weak spot that kept Gonzaga hanging around, no question. I expect they will be ready in that area as they were most of the season.

Ur probably right. My apologies. Its mostly the OSU fans ..which is even more sad.

I'm not a fan of either team but I'm actually excited for this game. Cinci is the scrappy win ugly games, while Ohio state is more of a flashy and a big scoring team. It's interesting how the game will play out. I actually like cinci in this game for some reason. They have been playing there best at this time of the year and have a lot to prove. Especially going against the "big brother". Either way it's going to be a great game and I'm considering calling off work for this one

I'd say Osu is playing their best the last couple weeks since the wisky loss. Even the loss to msu we played well. This should be a great game. I think cinci will have to hit 8-10 3's to be able to win.

Not sure what exactly you are questioning. Im guessing that they will call fouls? I honestly dont know.

But Ill just go back to my post. If the game is played like FSU-Cincy was, its an advantage for Cincy. Where each and every possession is just huge and the refs let them get physical and more physical. Yes, fouls will be called, but in a game like last night, there is a war going on around the hoop and its just tough. I think Cincinnati will fare better in that type of game, where everything is clogged in the middle, lots of physicality and minimal possessions.

If the game becomes a bit more open. More possessions, and more space, it shifts into OSUs favor.
centralbucksfan;1121404 wrote:Actually DUMBASS, I did watch. It was about as FUGLY as FUGLY can get. Last nite, neither team would have been within 20 of any top team, including OSU!

This I cant agree with at all. Yes, the game was ugly as SIN. But that style has worked for FSU and Cincy all year. Cincy has beaten lots and lots of top teams. FSU has beaten UNC and Duke twice. They can play with anyone in the country, and they are physical defensive minded teams. They play in games where possessions are at a premium, and they do it well.

Not saying Ohio St cant do that also, or even that they wont. But I think an up and down game definitely favors them more than a slow down grind it out game.

Either way, I cant fucking wait. Sweet 16 and Elite 8 match-ups are often the best of the tournament, and I think this weekend is no different. But then you factor in some of the other subplots, and its even better. The energy the players for Cincinnati and Indiana will play with is going to be awesome. Cincinnati for being "little brother" and IU for being "underdog" despite already winning. Then OSU wanting to prove themselves and UK wanting to prove they are that much better than IU. Should be awesome.

I'm an adopted UC fan this year due to starting professional school here, but I'm an OSU alum so there is no question where my allegiance lies Thursday.

Sucks they have to play each other and knock out one Ohio team.

Nice article, but it left out why most UK fans hate UC. The 'Stall Game' that UK won 24-11 back in 83. I know most of you weren't born back then, but it was pathetic. UK was ranked #2 at that time and there was no shot clock rule, so UC would dribble across half court then stall by standing there or passing the ball back and forth. They figured their best chance to win, or not get embarrassed, was pulling that stunt. They still got beat by more than double than what they scored.

I remember they asked UK Coach Joe B Hall after the game what was going through his mind during the game. He replied back 'The length of our contract.'

With that being said and my dislike toward UC, even though my Daughter attended there, I will have to pull for them against OSU. Consider it the worst of two evils. Plus I really hate Matta now after what he pulled at Xavier. I was a Matta Fan, much like I was a Pitino fan, but that was then.

Yea because every coach should just stay at a small school and not take a better job.

To be fair Lehigh beat Duke also not that great of an accomplishment beating Duke.

It's not that he left, it's that he denied interest, I believe saying he was not a candidate at Ohio State, then next thing you know he's accepting the job. Sean Miller did the same thing. X fans didn't like being lied to like that.

Happens every where not just Xavier. It's business why would a current coach of a team come out and say I am interested in such and such a job. That is why they have the "dream job" clauses in their contracts.

You beat me to it. I've been sitting back reading some of these posts about Sullinger's post play, Thomas' lack of defense, blah, blah, blah. Sullinger is a much better player than Yancey Gates, period. However, this game will NOT be decided by these two players. Craft will dictate what happens on the perimeter, both on offense and defense, and IMO, Smith, Jr. will be the X factor, and will have a huge impact on the outcome of this game. Cinci is OSU's little brother, and will continue to be after Thursday night. Bucks by 12.

So I just looked at the game time. WTF I have to be up till midnight on freaking Thursday. I have to get up at 4 to boot. Thanks CBS and NCAA.

While that may be true, Xavier fans sure don't think so.

If Xavier fans don't realize that their basketball program is a stepping stone job then that is on them.

LOL Curly J how old are you? We're probably one of the few that remembers that game. It wasn't just an embarrassment for UK and UC, it was a national embarrassment. It led to one rule (defense has to approach if the offense stalls) and then another rule (shot clock). To be fair a big time power (UNC), abused the previous rules as well, but not to the extent of that wretched game.

I remember the game. That certainly left a bitter pill for many UK fans and Coach Joe B. Hall vowed never to play UC again. However, the teams did eventually play a handfull of times thereafter (including an NCAA game in 2005 which of course is not scheduled). I think it is a factor for why the teams do not play more often.

I was barely born when that game was played, but I've heard a ton of stories about it from various people who said it was one of the most pathetic displays ever. There is one thing to have a game plan and attempt to execute it, but this was literally how it was described. I know one relative of mine who literally remembers being shocked at what he saw.

With that said, that was the past. UK and UC have played since. There are bigger fish to fry (rivalry-wise) for both programs, so I don't see the harm in continuing to play. I'd actually like to see it be part of a regular rotation with UK playing UC and Ohio State. I don't see it happening, but who knows.

I'm 44. This game happened my sophomore year in HS when I was 15. Luckily I missed the game as I was playing in the Pep Band at my HS Basketball game. I just remember asking some girl, who was a UC fan, what the score was and she told me this unreal low number at the Half. What made it worse was this game was at Cincy and many UK fans from the area finally got the chance to see them locally, only have that happen. I'll be honest as I never really cared either way about UC before that game, but after that game is where I get my hatred for them today. I never cheered UC even though my Daughter attended there and was in the Pep band.
