2012 MAC Men's Basketball Tournament

davefield goal, td, 2 point conversion.

ts1227Tonight's games final. The 12 and 11 seeds both advance a round for the first time since 2002 (there were 13 teams in the MAC then). First double digit seeded teams to actually advance a round since Ohio in 2003.

ts1227Charlie Coles singing "the Party's Over" at this press conference, making his retirement all but official.
-
daveTough to see Charlie go out on these terms, but damn was he a good coach. People will remember Wally but he had some great years with less talent than many other MAC teams.
-
daveToledo has won more games this year than I think they did the last 3 seasons combined. Not bad for a team with 2 juniors and no seniors.
-
TimberVery disappointed that there is not 4 games on Thursday anymore...
I always looked forward to a great day of basketball, adult beverages, and good friends.
Only going to be able to make the Thursday night session this year. Go flashes... Hope they can somehow get something going in the tournament and play a few good games in a row.
Good luck to all the teams! The thing I like best about the tourney... 4 people riding in a car to the games and rooting for three different teams. That is what makes the MAC unique. -
Pick6Also, they gave coach of the year to EMU's coach. EMU lost to Northern Illinois today. LMAO.
-
Pick6also seen BG lost today, rob.

If Dambrot wasn't such a dick he probably would have got enough votes to win it.Pick6;1106546 wrote:Also, they gave coach of the year to EMU's coach. EMU lost to Northern Illinois today. LMAO. -
Pick6
Its weird, Dambrot is probably the best coach in the MAC, yet has never won the award. Kind of reminds me of Tressel never winning it at OSU.ts1227;1106570 wrote:If Dambrot wasn't such a dick he probably would have got enough votes to win it. -

This. I remember going to a few Miami/OU games and Charlie would try his damndest to work the OU crowd. He was a great coach and an entertaining coach to the opposing team(IMO), sad to see him go out like this. At the same time though, he went out on his own.dave;1106347 wrote:Tough to see Charlie go out on these terms, but damn was he a good coach. But there are 4 games every day except Saturday. 2 women's games in the afternoon followed by 2 men's games in the evening session.Timber;1106480 wrote:Very disappointed that there is not 4 games on Thursday anymore... -

bo shemmy3337Anyone else not like how the top 2 seeds make the semifinal automatically? It is kinda stupid IMO

I like it, its good for the conference. Better chance the better teams from 1 bid leagues will get in the NCAAs.bo shemmy3337;1106897 wrote:Anyone else not like how the top 2 seeds make the semifinal automatically? It is kinda stupid IMO -

In one way, I like it; in another, I don't.bo shemmy3337;1106897 wrote:Anyone else not like how the top 2 seeds make the semifinal automatically? It is kinda stupid IMO
I like it because when you're most always a one-bid conference, you should give your regular-season top teams the easiest route to possibly making the big dance.
I don't like it because in these staggered tournament, it always seems that teams with games under their belt have some sort of advantage over the team just starting their first game in the third round or so in the tournament, which means that some lower seed conceivably could get hot and wind up taking out superior teams and getting the auto bid. -

Yeah that was rough, they killed CMU earlier this year at CMU, didn't come out ready to play it seemed and missed a lob tip at the buzzer to lose. Good luck to the teams the rest of the way.Pick6;1106552 wrote:also seen BG lost today, rob. -
grodtIt'd be nice to see Toledo at least get to the quarters, which should be a little easier playing Central then BG would have been. The future is looking good for the Rockets returning everyone next season including Rian Pearson who should be on the short list for POY next year. It should be an exciting tournament to watch. While I'll be rooting for the Rockets I think Akron takes it over Ohio.
-
Pick6I seen Pearson (#3 right?) when Toledo came to Akron. I was impressed.
-
daveI believe he's #5, but he had a good game against Akron so that would be who you remember. He transferred from Green Bay with coach K.
-
Pick6Akron snubbed again. 1st place in the MAC and no 1st team selections. Zeke Marshall(DPOY) should have been on there.

I'm hoping Toledo wins tonight just because with the "revenge factor" in play, there's less of a chance that OU will lay an egg tomorrow against them than against Central Michigan. That's the big problem I have with OU -- some nights, they just don't seem to have "it". Like, Cooper will be 2-15 from the field and no one will step up to make up for that.grodt;1107341 wrote:It'd be nice to see Toledo at least get to the quarters, which should be a little easier playing Central then BG would have been. ts1227Toledo is hot right now, I want them out tonight if at all possible.
Also, you can currently get 2 tickets to the men's and women's championship games on Saturday on Groupon for $20. It's only able to be purchased today. -

Pearson, a sophomore playing in his first season since transferring from the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, leads the league in scoring at 16.6 points a game. The 6-foot-4 guard is third in rebounding (8.4) and eighth in steals (1.6). -
daveWasn't he third in player of the year voting? But no first team, lmao.
