"They tried running right at Bama, that didn't work. They tried short passes,"
They abandoned using an athletic advantage, a bubble screen, a reverse, a misdirection, a deep pass. They ran the most conservative offense I've ever seen in the second half of a game when they still had an opportunity to win. It was an awful gameplan and even worse game management.
They didn't have an athletic advantage on Bama's defense. The backup nose guard looked like an all american. They couldn't get to the outside at all. Upshaw and Harris completely took away getting to the edge along with Kirkpatrick coming up. Which position do you think gave them an athletic advantage on any member of Alabama's defense? -

Glad to see that..that looked like a career crippling injury to me. -

Rueben Randle is the only good player LSU has on offense, so is this some sort of trick question?karen lotz;1047622 wrote:They didn't have an athletic advantage on Bama's defense. MB said they didn't use their athletic advantage. I'm just curious where he thought LSU had an athletic advantage on Bama's defense, that's all. -

If they didn't have an athletic advantage, why were they in the championship game and ranked #1?karen lotz;1047741 wrote:MB said they didn't use their athletic advantage. I'm just curious where he thought LSU had an athletic advantage on Bama's defense, that's all.
I don't get it. Unless Alabama's defense is the greatest team of warriors since the dudes from the film "300", and Georgia Southern proved that incorrect, they are certainly penetrable. And if LSU is that incompetent, they were a fraud the entire year. -
Manhattan BuckeyeBTW, speaking of Georgia Southern, they managed an 82 yard TD and a 40 yard TD against the famed Tide.....in the first half when the starters were still playing.
LSU's pitiful biggest gain from scrimmage of less than 20 yards? SMH. Turrible, turrible I tell you. -

They had an athletic advantage on every team on their schedule other than Alabama and didn't lose a game. Maybe LSU should have installed the triple option that Georgia Southern runs in the month before the game.Manhattan Buckeye;1047761 wrote:If they didn't have an athletic advantage, why were they in the championship game and ranked #1?

It would have been better than option play right, off-tackle left, split end right to the sideline....and it wasn't as if they needed to make a radical change. Jarrett Lee was the #1 QB for a big part of the year.karen lotz;1047775 wrote:They had an athletic advantage on every team on their schedule other than Alabama and didn't lose a game. I mean it is possible that a team can get a little more up for the national championship game than a fcs opponent. -

And what did LSU get up for? That was a flaccid performance. Do I need to make more genitalia jokes?SportsAndLady;1047791 wrote:I mean it is possible that a team can get a little more up for the national championship game than a fcs opponent. -

Les Miles shouldn't be getting criticized for anything aside from the one liner he threw out at media day, but Coach Miles has never been accused of being a social phenom anyway. You can't win a championship with a scheme like LSU was running this year. The only reason they got so close was because of the two anomalies on the roster; Wing and the nation runner up protection of the football on offense. I've seen this every year since I started following the Bears religiously. It simply can't be sustained for an entire season. I give them and Les Miles all the credit in the world for making it as far as they did but I told cats gone wild this same thing months ago and he followed it up by blocking me. Now he is hanging out with thavoice and getting in to his Mom's mascara.Manhattan Buckeye;1047782 wrote:It would have been better than option play right, off-tackle left, split end right to the sideline....and it wasn't as if they needed to make a radical change. You guys discussed how LSU was in the top ten this year in scoring offense, but nobody bothered to mention how the defense, return game, and punt game cut the field down to about thirty-five yards for Jefferson all year. They finished like 76th in the nation in total offense, the lowest ever for a BCS title contender (I didn't even look that up, correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm confident that there is no way). If you can do what 'Bama did and keep attacking their defense with a multifaceted attack without turning the ball over you will eventually wear the heart and soul of the entire team down. Not only did they create the holes we've seen all year in the secondary, but by the end of the game even the run defense was on its last leg. LSU's offense wasn't a championship offense, it wasn't a "just good enough" offense, it wasn't even a San Jose State level offense as far as stats go. You can't win football games if you can't move the ball on offense and you can't force turnovers, and for the first time all year LSU was denied the second method.
I won't even go in to my rant about a complete package QB who has proven their composure against this team because if I did I would start sounding like cats gone wild. At the end of the day at least the Kentucky Wildcats are still playing basketball, and we can all hang our hats on that. -
cats gone wildSince Im the only one who watched every game.....Its not hard in 44 days to come up with a defensive plan to stop Jefferson. As Ive said before, they prepared for Jefferson and the options, and running up the middle. Really, how hard is that? The first time they met, they prepared for Lee (and only 2 weeks) and Lee threw 2 int's. JJ stepped in (whom Bama wasnt prepared for since he didnt play much until then) and JJ did well. LSU should of mixed it up and threw it down field. That's if they would of had time to throw. LSU's defense has been a key all year causing to's and they didnt cause any. LSU usually can run the ball down teams throats and wear out defenses. Didnt happen.Bama was the worse team LSU could of played since they have a great defense. LSU scored bunches all year against some great teams, but those teams didnt have the #1 in every category defense like bama did. Just kinda weird that Miles didnt have a good game plan since he usually does with plenty of time before games (first games of the year, bowl games). He even had a good plan against Ohio St back in 07.
On a side note, looks like ESPN and Yahoo have LSU for preseason #1 like I said they would be even if they lost. Told ya vball, even tho not the official preseason polls. At least we wont have to worry about pitiful QB's next year at LSU. That's the only thing thats been holding them back, and for 4 years at that.
See you guys at the end of summer. -

j_crazyWho are the proven QBs we are supposed to be looking forward to? JJ and lee were supposed to be good. But weren't. This to say mettlenberger and kiel aren't going to lay an egg. I, for one, was not impressed with kiel when he played against talent in his AA game.

se-alumHebert was right when he said LSU needed to take shots down the field. 'Bama wasn't afraid of getting beat deep, because LSU wasn't going to throw it deep, which effectively let the corners stay around the LOS for run support. With a defense as good as 'Bama, you have to spread them out and have them make plays one on one.

TiernanOh by the way Herby and Mushmouth said "Honey Badger" a total of 13 times if anyone really cares. This punk will hold up a 7 - 11 before next year and be in jail anyway so we won't have to hear about his shit anymore.

Um, 2 teams that finished in the top 5 and another team that won a BCS game that didnt finish top 5. Name me another team that beat 3 top 5 teams, clobbered two, and beat 3 BCS winnners.
