Ohio State vs. Texas Pan-American (the chump opponents roll on)

Dawkins is a very unpredictable player, very up and down. He can score huge, like the 26 he dropped on Michigan State at the Garden, or he can leave with 0. Obviously that's partly on him, as he's got to be more proactive moving without the ball sometimes and putting himself in positions to score, but this season Duke has, in my opinion, done a very underwhelming job of utilizing Dawkins' skill set on the perimeter and not setting him up for scoring opportunities. He got very few looks again against Ohio State. One. It's not the first time this season, either.
you are correct, as he was busy shutting Seth Curry down....helluva job that our 2nd best defender, Smith Jr., did on him though, eh?

Good news is Matta says there is a good chance Sullinger will play vs. Kansas

He basically coaches basketball in Mexico. He's an irrelevant jerk. (I'm satirizing myself, BTW. I probably am a bit defensive of Duke from time to time, which I can admit. But this site, and people like Ahdonis, have certainly made that an easy feat.)

Apparently, I'm satirizing myself didn't resonate. I pointed out in that post that I probably am way too defensive of Duke.

UTPA is a better team than Duke.

I am going to wait and see IF Sullinger plays vs KU. It was obvious seeing him on the bench, that is back is bothering him pretty extensively. Everytime he went to sit down, he did it very slow, leaning to one side. He has a while to be healthy. But in the same sense, he will need some practice time going into that game.

Reading all this Duke bravado, how soon we forget not only the smackdown OSU laid down earlier this week, but also the complete throttling Arizona dished out to end the Dukie's season in the NCAA tourney last year. Comparing this to football, this would be like OSU losing by 4 TDs to Oregon in the Rose Bowl, then early the next season they lose by 4 TDs to Florida State yet Buckeye fans yapping how superior they are.

I don't think that Duke is superior to Ohio State this season. Right now, Ohio State is unequivocally the better team.

But to call Duke a weakling is just not true. Some people are acting like Duke hasn't accomplished anything since the '90s and that Ohio State has surpassed them as a basketball power. The Blue Devils have a very good team that, by March, I think can certainly give Ohio State a run for its money.

Duke has a nice team. But I honestly don't see them challenging OSU, UNC, UK or Cuse. Those teams just have MUCH more ahtleticism than Duke has currently. Man for man, they don't match up. They don't have a true PG. Curry is a shooting guard playing PG. They have a nice team, but that is the extent of it IMO.

You may be right, and that's why I said a run for its money rather than beat them. Ohio State and Kentucky (I haven't seen much of Syracuse) have proven that they are the front-runners this season. I believe that Duke, though, has the ability to play up to that level on a given night, especially with their lethal crew of outside shooters and the creation of Austin Rivers. And, in the NCAAs, it only takes one night. They will need Ryan Kelly to not evaporate like he did in Columbus, however, or the Blue Devils will certainly go home very early. Mason Plumlee, however improved, is not enough to challenge a front court like Columbus or Kentucky or North Carolina.

I don't necessarily think that it matters that Duke doesn't have a true point guard -- Duke won the whole thing in 2010 under the point guard duties of "the alarmingly unathletic" shooting guard Jon Scheyer, and Curry will learn to adapt more as the season moves along (if he isn't moved back to the two and replaced by Cook) -- but you are correct with regard to the lack of athleticism, especially at the three and four spots. Dawkins and especially Kelly are very good basketball players -- he didn't show it against the Bucks, but Kelly is a very savvy guy on the floor who brings all of the intangibles -- but they are not the kinds of athletic swingman guys that guys like William Buford and Terrence Jones are.

And by Columbus I obviously meant Ohio State. Ha.

How many basketball titles have Ohio St won in your lifetime? Exactly one game sure the hell doesnt make your program superior over Duke. Especially when it came in November. You Ohio St fans are amazing. Wake up and realize Duke has a far superior basketball program and well when comparing coaches, ENOUGH SAID!!!!
  • Midstate01
As a program, duke has been better. This year, we are way better then duke. Easy enough.

There is only one team that claims a title and it sure the hell isnt claimed in November. As good as your team supposedly was last year they didnt even get to the Final 4. Lots of ball to be played.

Nobody even argues that. You're tryin to start arguments that aren't even here. Just stop trying

It just eeems to me that Duke keeps coming up from Ohio St. Move on guys you beat us easily. When I look at past posts people keep bringing up Duke. Its actually pretty funny. You should be looking and talking about Kansas because with or wothout Sullinger that will be a tough game on the road!
  • Midstate01
This is not a duke thread. Wasn't until a duke fan came running to it. Stay off osu topics and you don't have to worry about it. It's simple!!

Look how you guys respond when we bring up beating Duke. No wonder people keep doing it. It's just pure gold every time it happens.

And people like you, CC, and RRN make it easy to rag on Duke. Overly defensive and (in some cases, particularly CC, being completely clueless).
