Tressel may end up coaching the Colts.

Here's the source saying that Akron is targeting him: http://www.footballscoop.com/the-scoop

Its also the same source that called Ianello's hiring 2 years ago (over Fickell) and his firing last Tuesday.
Akron fans are delusional to think Jim Tressel would want to coach Akron. The same school that screwed Mr. Tressel over at YSU when he applied to get the Penguins into the MAC.

He owes nothing to that school and it would not be worth it to coach a program that will never win.

Explain why Jim Tressel has been spotted at UA athletic events and talking to the bigger donors then.

He's been seen at Kent and at YSU within the past 6 weeks too.... Maybe they are trying to hire him too?

He was also seen at Woody Hayes Athletic Center this week. Maybe OSU is using Urban as leverage to get a good deal re-hiring Tress.

He has a history with YSU and was at Kent watching his old assistant, Hazell. I'll ask again, why was he at Akron (who you say he wants nothing to do with)?

The absolute only reason I could think of is he was asked to be on the search committee. Of course all signs would point towards Fickell who they should have hired the first time and didn't.

Why would he want to help find a coach for a school that screwed him?

I believe Fickell will be an option as well, and I'd like him if we don't get Tressel (which I dont think will happen), but I think he stays at OSU

He was at at least one of Toledo's weeknight games, talking to donors and alums. Does that mean he is coaching there next year? He is going to be pretty busy with all of these jobs.

He was also at UC earlier in the season.

I think Turner Gill will be a logical choice for Akron.

He won the MAC with Buffalo..I'd take him.

The Columbus Dispatch ran a piece this year about the state of the Ohio MAC schools. The jist of the story was that the MAC was once a great conference but is now suffering in fan attendance, alumni support, etc. Tressel was coincidentally on hand for each article offering his support for each institution and how they have something good to offer to the overall sports scene. I just figured the Wolf family paid for Jimmy T. to travel across the state with Bob Hunter for the sake of the article, not because he just happened to love hitting up a Tuesday night game with 7500 people in attendance.

Without re-reading this whole thread, is Akron willing to spend $? They were god-awful this year, any decent name is going to need a pretty good offer with what they would be inheriting.

Ianello was making $300k a year with 3 years remaining. This might make Paul Winters, an Alum and former coordinator who is having success rebuilding a D2 school much more appealing.

Turner Gill would be a good choice as would Luke Fickell and what about Ron Zook?

Wouldn't mind anybody with a name, and has head coaching experience. A name to get players and sell tickets, coaching experience to actually win games. As long as the AD doesnt hire some buddy from Notre Dame who has 0 head coaching experience and is only known as a recruiter, I'll be satisfied.

Fickell will probably get >$300k to be an assistant at his Alma Mater.

Tress isn't doing anything for $300k.

I just don't get the feeling anyone is going to Akron unless they find some serious cash.

For what it is worth, I have an inside source that says Akron is trageting Tressel. I am in no way saying he is intersted, a candidate, will entertain an offer or anything. The interest as far as I was told is one way right now.

I agree they will have to put up the cash. They do have the best facilities in the MAC ad a splash hire would boost attendace and potential income for the program. I don't see this happening though. If he wants to coach next year, better offers will be there.

Also, what has the NCAA placed on him as far as working at that level again? Any sanctions?

Targeting is one thing... YSU targeted some big name coaches two years back... Most of which said no thank you. One name that we were actually in the ballpark for was a Mr. Mark Stoops.

Believe it or not he WAS interested and WAS the guy going into the final week. But FSU Coach Jimbo Fisher called him down to Florida for an interview and the rest is history. And that my friends is from a source that I can assure you tops all of your sources you have over there in Akron.

my source works for the football program at Akron and has proven reliable one 100% of everything he has ever told me. Not sure how you can "top" that. Take your hatred for Akron out of the picture and realize that nobody is saying they think Tressel is going to come here, but that Akron is targeting him.

And for those of you asking, Akron has, and is willing to spend the money.
