OK State in a tight one!

1-loss Florida got in over Michigan in 2006-2007. Not LSU. And they were tied in the computers, so the coaches didn't really "override" anything.Footwedge;978870 wrote:The coaches over rode a one loss Michigan team and stuck in a 2 loss LSU team in 2006/07.
LSU made the 2008 championship game ('07 season) with 2 losses. The only teams they were ahead of that didn't have 2 losses were Kansas and Hawaii, and neither of them were ranked in the top 5. -
cats gone wildEveryone is afraid of LSU I guess. If LSU wins out, they will play either OK or ORE. Bama wont get in. I guess LSU and Bama are still looking like they are the best 2 teams hands down. First tier LSU and Bama, 2nd tier OK, Ore, Ark, 3rd tier......dont care.

OK lost to a terrible Texas Tech team at home. Bama's loss is better. I would take Bama.cats gone wild;978919 wrote:Everyone is afraid of LSU I guess. I hope they decide on the title game with the two best teams and not the two best teams that haven't already played against each other. -
Skyhook79I may be in the minority but if you can't win your own conference or even your own division in your conference you shouldn't be playing for the National Championship.

So its possible that Oregon gets rewarded for losing to the same team that Alabama lost to because they are not in the same league as LSU. The top 2 teams in the nation can't come from the same Division let alone the same conference? I can buy the argument that 'Bama shouldn't get in because they lost at home before I can buy this one.Skyhook79;978960 wrote:I may be in the minority but if you can't win your own conference or even your own division in your conference you shouldn't be playing for the National Championship.
P.S with this thinking of can't win a division title=can't win a National or World title, your boy Kobe would have one less ring (still more than LeBron, I know). -

Did Kobe and the Lakers win their Conference Championship in every Title they won? Besides NCAA Football doesn't have a playoff system so you are comparing apples to oranges.sportswizuhrd;978990 wrote:So its possible that Oregon gets rewarded for losing to the same team that Alabama lost to because they are not in the same league as LSU. IggyPride00I have been saying for weeks on here they are a fraud. My only surprise is that the loss came vs. ISU this week instead of Oklahoma as I had been predicting.

lhslep134There is no complete team in the country this year. I would have said Oklahoma but they lost Broyles and Whalen, and they pretty much prove to be a fraud every year. Both Oregon and Alabama have a legitimate claim to play LSU for the title. One of them has a great offense but is suspect on D, and the other is suspect on offense and has a great D. I really can't distinguish which team is better, although I guess since I think defense wins championships that Alabama is better suited.
For what it's worth, I really don't care about the "re-match" aspect of the title game because once the two teams are selected for the game, everything that happened before it is irrelevant, so if Oregon or 'Bama were to beat LSU in the title game, I would have no problems with that. If it just so happened that the two best teams in the country happened to play in the regular season, so be it. -
FootwedgeIf Bama plays LSU for the title game, I will self ban myself on the sports boards for 3 months. Come on people. Do you really think the writers and the coaches are gonna vote for a team that is second place inside of their sub-division inside of their conference? Really?
And more food for thought. These people with only one or 2 teeth aren't the brightest you know.
I can see it now....Bama scores a touchdown...and 45,000 people stand up and yell "SEC, SEC, SEC". And then when LSU kicks a field goal, the other 45,000 morons will stand up and chant the same thing. Book it.
On a side note....maybe Cletus or Clem can enlighten me as to who goes to Atlanta when Arkansas beats LSU? -

Pretty much this. It'd be different if there was a playoff in college football and then Bama got to the title game, but since there isn't, you can't put them in the title game because they are THOUGHT to be the next best team. At least in a playoff, a team can prove they are the next best even if they didn't win their division. sleeperI hope LSU and Bama rematch each other in the NCG. Then, when the ratings are near zero outside the south, and the game ends 6-3 with 14 missed field goals, we can laugh at the SEC fans trying to justify mediocrity with their mythical championship.

Mediocrity means a national championship for 7 straight years? It means an otherwise BCS lock is left out every year because they're the third best team in the SEC? It means a 9-1 record against Ohio State? Your logic is air tight, but....sleeper;979075 wrote:I hope LSU and Bama rematch each other in the NCG. Conferences don't win championships and every title the SEC has won the in past 10 years is disputed in one way or another. When you have Boise State, Utah, TCU, etc being left out of the championship game, there's no way you can say that these teams were undisputed the best in the country.athlete37;979083 wrote:Mediocrity means a national championship for 7 straight years? If there was a playoff, SEC teams would never win, I guarantee it. -
cats gone wildIt wouldnt be fair if Bama got into the title game without playing Georgia in the SEC title game. If LSU wins out and has to play another game in which they are able to slip up and Bama automatically gets in, then thats not right.

I could've sworn LSU played in the conference title game. I know Nebraska in 01 didn't even play in their conference championship and they played in the BCS title game.Pick6;979320 wrote:didnt something similar happen the year LSU beat OSU in the ship? -

LSU beat Tenn in the SEC title game with Perrilloux getting player of the game. So, I dont know what you are trying to come up with.Pick6;979320 wrote:didnt something similar happen the year LSU beat OSU in the ship? -

The infraction was not the result of "any legal circumstances and is strictly a violation of the strict guidelines he came here under," coach Jack Crowe said Friday in a statement.
Perrilloux transferred to Jacksonville State before last season. Once one of the nation's top recruits, he had been kicked off LSU's national championship team for a string of issues that included skipping classes, missing a team meeting and arriving late for conditioning workouts.

It didn't happen to LSU but Oklahoma lost 35-7 in the Big 12 Championship game in 2003 and still went on to play in the National Championship game.like_that;979324 wrote:I could've sworn LSU played in the conference title game. I think you may just be thinking about the talk around Georgia that year. They finished 2nd in the final AP Poll and leading up to the SEC title game, there was talk that if LSU was upset that Georgia might have a shot at the National Title without even playing in the SEC Championship. I don't think it would've happened anyway (I think they were like 4th or 5th in the final BCS standings before the bowls), but there was a lot of talk that they might've jumped some teams in the human polls (VT, Oklahoma, and USC were all in the mix) had LSU been beaten. The whole thing was about "who is playing best now".Pick6;979320 wrote:didnt something similar happen the year LSU beat OSU in the ship?
