What bowl game do you want Ohio State to win?

  • sleeper
Well, its just one of those seasons. Ohio State is looking at only 9 wins, which is incredible when you think about all that has happened in the last year. #NotreDameLogic

Anyway, 9 wins is terrible and unacceptable for Ohio State as we are historically a National Championship caliber/BCS bowl winning university. Which bowl game would you like to win? I think we will get the Outback, possibly the CapitalOne bowl against hopefully these teams, in order from easiest to easy win:

    1. South Carolina
    2. Georgia
    3. Arkansas(as we proved last year)
    4. Auburn
    5. Alabama(they have no offense, despite being ranked #3 in the country #paperrankings)

    Thoughts?

How is Georgia easier to beat then Auburn? They Sandusky'd Auburn 45-7 yesterday, your list is shit.

The one they get invited to.

In the west Texas town of El Paso is where they will be.

How do the bowls work now? In the past, the Capital One has included the Big 10 #2 team. What defines the #2 team: the loser of the Big 10 championship game, or does it go by record?

Will they accept a bid at 6-6? Not sure they will win either of their remaining games. Penn St. and Michigan are both better than the team they just lost to.

yes they will, and since when does that make a difference, especially in the anemic B1G this year?

If I were Smith, I would self impose a bowl ban for this year. It might help us avoid one in the future and this team is headed nowhere fast

unfortunately, it seems self impositions don't mean squat

It made a difference to them back in '87. However that was a long time ago. Plus, something to consider. Would tOSU be able to break even accepting a bid to low-tier bowl game, such as the Motor City Bowl?

Good point, and definitely something to consider. However, imo, the value of getting these young kids another game (which will also mean additional practices), plus getting the experience of playing in a bowl game, would weigh heavily into the administration's decision.

Of course they would, there would be minimal travel/hotel expenses and they would sell 50k tickets. It's the small schools that have to travel across the country with small fan bases that lose money on bowl games.

Is the Alamo Bowl still around? That would be a decent spot for OSU.

Would they sell 50K to the Motor City Bowl? That's a pretty opportunistic figure, imo. Unless they land a lower-tier bid out west, like in Arizona or down in Florida, I have a hard time believing that. The way the bowls are lined up, for the BIG conference, tOSU is going to be near the bottom of the pecking order when bowl bids are offered. Right now they might be fighting for #6 with Purdue and Illinois.

Unfortunately the alamo bowl is no longer affiliated with the B1G. (as someone pointed out to me on another thread)

If we lose both, probably end up in Detroit at the Little Ceasar's Bowl against a MAC opponent.

If we win both, I could see us in the Gator Bowl or Insight Bowl against an opponent from the SEC/Big 12

    Re-match with Toledo?

I don't think OSU fans would relish that matchup, but yeah, thats probably what it would be

The Big Ten splits all bowl revenue, so it doesn't matter where they would go.

Personally, I think Gene Smith is going to self impose a bowl ban in another masochistic fit and declare that we haven't punished ourselves enough for the $8-9K of 'improper' benefits that some of our players might have received.

OSU couldn't win the Toilet Bowl.

There are plenty of OSU fans who have never had a shot to travel to a bowl game that would love to go to one and only spend a few hundred bucks for the whole trip IMO. Hell, they probably have 25k fans just in the Toledo/Detroit area that would go.

I agree that there is a good chance that they go 6-6, no better than 7-5. Who want to play a MAC school in the Papa JOhns or Motor City Bowl or some equally bad bowl. This would be a good year for a self imposed Bowl ban. This team does not show up ready to play in most games and the game plan on both offense and defense is less than inspiring. What happened tp playing agressive defense? They rush 3 drop 8 and just get carved up. They can't get off the field on 3rd down and give up yards on the ground in big chunks. The tackling is pathetic. It's time to forget this nightmarish season and clean house and start over. I don't see where playing in a lower tier Bowl would aid the Buckeyes recovery at all. Here's the way I see it play out: OSU goes to the bad Bowl game, the players don't really want to be there, we still have Bollman, Heacock, and Fickell (lame duck coaches), the game plan is it's typical bad self, the opponent is a no name, very happy to be playing here or anywhere. They come in all jacked up with an innovative game plan from a coach who is looking to make a name for himself. They lay a whipping on a not so good Ohio State, nothing gained, just an embarrassing loss.

I understand that but schools still lose money at some of these bowls. It was said that Michigan lost money last year on their's and that they made more money the previous two years when they didn't attend a bowl game. That means they lost money on their game last season. By the time they paid all their expenses and whatnot, split their payout with the other schools, their share of their bowl payout didn't cover those expenses and they actually had to dip into their own coffers to take part in this game. A million dollar payout isn't going to amount to much in the BIG. Most of the teams' payout comes from BIG's BCS appearance(s). Capital One pays a couple million? The rest are a million or less?
