Ohio State self-imposes 5 scholarship reduction for Failure to Monitor

jordo212000This crap needs to stop. Clean house. Get rid of compliance, Smith, and the whole coaching staff.

Azubuike24Central Florida announcing their findings to the NCAA and dismissing a people. Oregon turning in stuff to the NCAA. Ohio State imposing penalties. Not shocked that schools are doing this stuff right in the thick of the Penn State/Joe Paterno scandal. Talk about staying under the radar.

ts1227They picked an opportune time to tell them, at least. with the PSU debacle, this one will largely fly under the radar.

Absolute genius. Nobody cares about some extra cash and tattoos right now. Well except for probably the NCAA they will deem those things worse than what is going on in Happy Valley. It may not lessen their punishment but most of the public will think these things don't seem so bad.Azubuike24;967127 wrote:Central Florida announcing their findings to the NCAA and dismissing a people. slingshot4everGet ready for USC like sanctions with this FTM tag...

They don't deem it WORSE, but nothing PSU has done falls under their jurisdiction yet... it's all legal matters that the NCAA has absolutely no authority over.Scarlet_Fever;967175 wrote:Absolute genius. Cat Food Flambe'The NCAA will likely increase the scholarship hit or ban Ohio State from bowl play, but not both. Personally, I think that they will go with the former if they can't make an announcement by the end of the season.

I know. Which is exactly what we tried to explain to that person. But they insisted. I remember there being a multi-page argument over it.Writerbuckeye;967077 wrote:This is a separate investigation, altogether. Thus a separate letter. -

Yep. They're gonna face the death penalty. :rolleyes:slingshot4ever;967193 wrote:Get ready for USC like sanctions with this FTM tag... -

This is going to get old real quick. The PSU situation has nothing to do with the NCAA. And it's obviously much worse.Scarlet_Fever;967175 wrote:Absolute genius. OSU will not get a bowl ban as USC did -- thus my sarcastic post above. OSU will not lose as many scholarships as USC did. OSU will not face the same sanctions as USC because the cases are very different and because OSU cooperated while USC did not. Also, USC faced loss of institutional control allegations; OSU is facing failure to monitor, which is a lesser charge in the hierarchy of the NCAA.slingshot4ever;967510 wrote:^^^

The only dumb folks here are those who don't read both cases and realize the major differences involved. -
AutomatikHow long until Gene Smith is gone? I won't be satisfied until he is out.
-
vball10setI wish they'd stop self imposing, 'cause I really don't think it helps. IMO, THE OSU will get another 1-2 schollys (on the top of the 5) taken away, with a couple of years probation. I also don't think they'll be a bowl ban.
Edit: I believe this FTM charge will mean the end of Smith's tenure at OSU...he's out. -
ytownfootballSmith I believe received a letter of reprimand from Gee, Smith's reaction seemed typical in that he felt he was being thrown under the bus for everything that's gone on...well no shit Gene if the effin shoe fits brah...
He'll be gone following UM game. He can't possibly expect to have a job following this debacle.
As for the bowl ban...it better be this year, I've heard that the NCAA findings and sanctions won't be known until after the B1G championship game...all the players in what the sanctions have resulted will be gone so it should not carry over past this season in order to at least to appear fair, the ban should be for the Car Quest, Meineke Muffler bowl this season. -

Not yet. A kid in S. Carolina, a senior, says that Jerry Sandusky recruited him within the last year to go to PSU. If investigated and true, then Sandusky is a representative of PSU which might bring in the NCAA.thedynasty1998;967307 wrote:This is going to get old real quick. Not only that, but seriously, if this doesn't SCREAM lack of institutional control then those two words should never be uttered by an NCAA official ever again.GoPens;968960 wrote:Not yet. A kid in S. Expect plenty of garbage to come out now. Similar to the Tressel situation, the media will stop at nothing to make the story bigger than it is. The media made kids selling their own property seem like they all killed someone and ran the train on some high school girls.dat dude;968964 wrote:That report was false. -
HaraLendoOhio State, This team has been through hell this season. As terrible as this season has gone for the Bucks, they still find themselves in position to win a Big Ten Championship

"Rogue players."
"Rogue coach."
"Rogue booster."
"More rogue players."
Like, everybody was out there doing their own thing so it wasn't his issue. Because, you know, a school/AD is never accountable for their players/coaches/boosters being a bunch of lone rangers. -
WebFireOSU now considering self bowl ban for this year.
