Akron Student kills himself inside the stadium
-
SportsAndLadyApparently blew his head off sitting in the front row on the 50 yard line before the gates opened.

dwccrewI'd do the same thing if I was an Akron fan.
Too soon?

SportsAndLadyWasn't there a thread started over on the serious business forum about Akron trying to improve home attendance?

I believe so, this certainly won't help. They went from 343 to 342 now.SportsAndLady;941534 wrote:Wasn't there a thread started over on the serious business forum about Akron trying to improve home attendance? -

Hb31187I agree with DWC, suicide is cowardly and pathetic. No sympathy for people who choose to do so.
But damn, i did not hear about this yet. Wonder when theyll have a deatailed story out on it -
I Am AhabPeople who commit suicide are often mentally ill. I've known a few people who have done so and been in close contact with one person during his final days. It's not pretty. Maybe if you could see the trials some people experience due mental health issues like severe depression, PTSD, etc you wouldn't be so ignorant and have a little more sympathy for people who die by suicide. It takes a lot of pain and torture for someone to actually get go that point.

There are plenty of people who have it tough but dont choose the cowardly way out. I will never have sympathy for someone who was in so much pain and depression that they choose to kill themselves...and put their family and friends into the same sort of depression and bad situation that they were in before killing themselves.I Am Ahab;941562 wrote:People who commit suicide are often mentally ill. SykotykI agree with I Am Ahab. People who say they want to kill themselves are looking for attention because of depression. Those that go through with it have something wrong upstairs that goes way beyond depression. It's funny (not haha funny), that a lot of suicides are committed by people who you never think will kill themselves. In High School, a girl killed herself one day after school who was beautiful, athletic, outgoing, smart, funny, etc. Nobody ever had anything bad to say about her. Nobody made fun of her. She was never rude to people or mean to them. Or at least publicly.
Yet, she killed herself. Why? Nobody has any clue why. But, she did. The only explanation is something was wrong upstairs. -
I Am Ahab
There is a difference between having it tough and being ill to the point that you actually take your own life. You're coming off as very naive and ignorant.Hb31187;941568 wrote:There are plenty of people who have it tough but dont choose the cowardly way out. I would bet most people who kill themselves are mentally weak, not ill. Like the high school kids you hear about being bullied and killing themselves ect ect. Id say a small percentage of people who actually go through with it are seriously mentally ill, but just think their life is so hard, or that theres nothing worth living for. Either way, I still have no sympathy for them even if its ignorant.I Am Ahab;941574 wrote:There is a difference between having it tough and being ill to the point that you actually take your own life. bogeyWow, I believe a local high school just lost a student athlete to suicide....no need to try to explain or judge.....just offer prayers and condolences to those close to the person in family and friends.

Agree. Seems like few posters are judging this kid without knowing a thing about him.bogey;941593 wrote:Wow, I believe a local high school just lost a student athlete to suicide....no need to try to explain or judge.....just offer prayers and condolences to those close to the person in family and friends. -
bigkahunaIt's a general opinion about the act. I too agree with DWC. Before anyone jumps on me about it, I've had 2 cousins do it in the last 5 years as well as several students at the school I was student teaching at. It's a cowardly thing to do. I feel sorry for/pray for the families involved because they are the ones hurting after such a selfish act. So, I will say prayers to that family and nothing more.

MulvaI don't have sympathy for people who commit suicide either, but that's because I don't think people who kill themselves are really looking for sympathy from people. Living is a personal choice.
I also think (extreme minority viewpoint coming) it's bullshit to say it's "cowardly" to do so. Who the fuck is anyone else to tell someone how to live (or end) their life? If I get sick of putting up with shit at some point, or just get straight bored, and decide to kill myself then that's not really anyone's choice to make but my own.
Sure it sucks for the family/friends involved, but again, it isn't their life and it isn't their decision to make. The thought process that someone has an obligation to keep living a miserable hell-cycle of a life just so you don't have to feel the sadness of missing them is every bit as selfish as someone ending their life to end the miserable hell-cycle and hurting those close to them. -

Which is why I stated I believe it is selfish. Cowardly, ehh. I think it depends on the circumstances, however, suicide is selfish in the sense of what one puts their family through after one takes their own life.Mulva;941619 wrote:I don't have sympathy for people who commit suicide either, but that's because I don't think people who kill themselves are really looking for sympathy from people. I actually completely agree. Living is a choice, not a requirement.Mulva;941619 wrote: I also think (extreme minority viewpoint coming) it's bull**** to say it's "cowardly" to do so. vball10setthe only time I view suicide as cowardly is when someone hurts or kills innocent people, and then kills themself--that, to me, is cowardice at it's pinnacle
-
I Am AhabI agree with the idea that it should be viewed as an individuals own decision and right to choose whether or not they want to continue living. If you decide you are miserable and don't wanna put up with the grind then kill yourself. It is just as selfish for other people to want a person to live a life that they find miserable as it is to kill oneself.
