Not nearly as big of an "upset" as it would have been.

Seeing reports that Fab Melo will declare for the draft. Makes sense...since he can't handle his academics.

What year is he? He is a second rounder imo. Size but no offensive game.

    Soph.

Sucks a lot. Syracuse had a great shot this year but he couldn't be bothered to study a bit? Also an APR hit for sure

He is very raw at the offensive end but he made some progress compared to last year. That's how bad he was last season.

Yeah, I'm pretty irritated/disappointed. First, Onuaku's injury a couple years ago when they were a 1 seed with a great shot and now this. Cursed.

As an college bball fan, I don't like to see this. Especially at this point in time. And shame on Melo AND 'Cuse for not doing their homework (litterally). With all the help these players get in this day and age, there really is no excuse. On top of that, you would think 'Cuse would have a VERY close eye on this kid seeing as he missed games already for academics. Hell, I would think they would have someone following him around to class and/or have a tutor directly assigned to him. Not only did Melo drop the ball on this, it seems someone else did as well(maybe). Unless the kid just flat out said the hell with it. Who knows. Sad situation that could, could derail a special season for this team. Now just adds to the list of issues this year at 'Cuse.

Can't imagine the school not doing everything in their power and then some to help him so I'm putting this solely on him. I'm guessing that he had a "fuck it" attitude with academics.

The regular season was special. That doesn't change. The NCAA tournament is now fucked though. Would take titanic efforts from Christmas and Keita to fill the void left by Melo.

Probably my guess as well. But you still gotta wonder. Football is one thing when you have 100 players to monitor. Basketball is another with the small numbers they deal with.
I guess why I wonder, is if they were paying close attention, they had to see this coming. So why play him in the BE tourney? I understand the #1 seed. But maybe I get my team prepared for whats ahead. Who knows.

If they knew it was coming....play him to protect your #1 seed and hope to get an easier road to the Final Four. Problem is that the committee did them no favors.

This says the NCAA came in and investigated. And maybe found he wasnt the one doing the work.

Actually, it says they're looking into the fact that he didn't do some of the work. It says nothing about the work being done by someone else. Not saying there's no chance that happened, but that is not what was said in the link. At least that's not what I took from that sentence.

Ohio State vs. Florida State could be a great game, though, if it happens.
I'll be rooting for an Ohio State v. UC Sweet Sixteen Matchup myself.

I don't think the NCAA cares much if someone isn't doing the work unless the university is still playing them when they would be academically ineligible. Which I would find hard to believe especially considering all that 'Cuse is going through this year. They would care however, if someone else were doing it for him. If the NCAA is looking into this, then its more than just him not doing the work to be eligible.

Even though I would like to see Leonard Hamilton and FSU represent the ACC in the Final Four, I would enjoy the above match-up myself. If the Bearcats can get past the Noles' vaunted defense, I think Cincy could be in New Orleans. As an Ohioan, that'd be cool.

Not sure if anyone is watching the First Four, but Barack Obama is there in Dayton and I'm pretty sure Clark Kellogg was fully erect while interviewing him. Lol at Clark. He looked like he was 13 and had just met singer Tiffany. And he is still waxing poetic about it in the booth while the game plays. What a joke.

Please put your pants back on and start talking basketball.

@SethDavisHoops: My understanding is that situation w Melo not related to what kept him out in Jan. Same category ("eligibility") but different situation.

@SethDavisHoops: Also sounds like this was initiated by info unearthed by Syracuse, not the NCAA. School must work in concert w/ NCAA on final decision.

@SethDavisHoops: Technically in final analysis this is the school's call but that doesn't mean they agree with NCAA's interpretation of the info.
