The Big XII officially extends an invite to TCU

    I doubt they like it. i thought the Big 12 didn't want another team from Texas? I was assuming this was Texas's wish more than the Big 12's wishes. Makes much more sense for TCU than the Big East.

    They said they didn't, but in all honesty, if the Big XII were to add a new school, TCU would be the logical choice.

    Oklahoma is running the Big XII show. They said they would leave unless changes were made and everything they demanded has happened. Adding TCU will be simply because OU, OSU, & Texas want another team that can maintain a ranking (most years) and make the conference more legit.

    This move, along with the Pitt/'Cuse move, should be the final nail in the Big East's coffin....at least as far as football goes.

    The Big XII is in survival mode. They had previously had no interest in the other Texas schools because there'd really be no point - those schools don't have an added value to the conference. Now, the added value is simply to remain in business so they kind of have to go with what they can get. TCU's recent success certainly helped; SMU has been begging to get a look and there's really been no talk about that being a possibility (yet?). My understanding is that Houston has long been interested and still, no talk about them (again, yet?).

    With the Pac 12 closing the door on Oklahoma, there was pretty much no choice but make some kind of move to portray stability. I don't know if I'd consider Oklahoma to be calling the shots, so to speak, because at this point what other options do they really have? The money sharing agreement that is going to cut into Texas' piece of the pie is also going to affect OU's bottom line. Remember, Texas wasn't alone in getting a bigger share. Both schools may have realized that they're big kids on the block when there are other kids around. Without the little boogers, though, well, it wouldn't be as fun having to play by someone else's rules. So they're making some concessions to keep themselves on top.

    From a money standpoint, and apparently from a stability standpoint, this is probably good for TCU. For maintaining the lofty status they achieved in a low-rent conference and compared to what they might have achieved in the Big East, this is their ticket back to mediocrity. They've already slipped a notch this season, the Big XII is much better at the top, and the unique recruiting days are over. I believe they've peaked when it comes to national recognition.

    TCU is only maintaining a ranking because of the conference they are in. They will not be consistently ranked while in the Big 12.

    Might as well invite Houston and call it the Texas conference.

    SMU begging to get in is really amusing to me, SMU hasn't been relevant in 20 years.

    How it TCU a good idea? They are terrible academically and their football program is only good because they play a bunch of patsy's year in year out that make Notre Dame look like they are playing NFL teams. TCU is a joke. The Big 12 should be thankful that the Big East is the worst conference in CFB history otherwise they'd be solely on the bottom.

    I'd much rather have a degree from KSU than anything from TCU. Times are tough, I'd be surprised if anyone graduating from TCU in the past 2 years even has a job with a salary.

    I think Andy Dalton does.

    EDIT: Assuming he graduated. He was there four years, but with athletes, that doesn't always mean anything.

    a call probably isn't coming for new mexico but i thought i saw a blurb about tulane's potential candidacy posted somewhere yesterday (aau, nola, louisiana recruits, commitment to facilities since katrina were the "big" feathers in the green wave's cap). either way, a big drop-off from a&m, nebraska and colorado to the potential recruits being looked at now by the conference

    Missouri would be stupid to stay if they have an invitation from the SEC imo. They aren't going to be asked to join the Big Ten (ever, most likely) and there's no way a Big XII TV contract will net as much as the SEC even if you add in TCU, Big East leftovers, and Boise State.

    ^ Pretty sure the issue would be the SEC not accepting Missouri, not Missouri turning down the SEC.
