Blah blah blah defense needed to make a stop it is that simple and they couldn't.

They had to be extremely tired.

they made a few stops. Offense couldn't score to back them up in the second half, did you not watch the game?

Nebraska TOP for 2nd half was 16:07. Only a minute and a half more than the 1st. Total TOP 30:43.

You are telling me that less than 2 more minutes wore out the vaunted OSU defense? They played lights out in the 1st, but less than 2 more minutes on the field wore them out? This is THE top program in the country, they need to work on conditioning if that's true.

When Nebraska was kneeling the football doesn't count as a stop.

2nd half time of possession OSU 13 min 53 secs Nebraska 16 min 7 secs (4 mins of that was Nebraska last possession doing the victory kneel)

I'm so not looking forward to my trip to Champaign next week. If Miller is good to go we will beat the Illini. If it's up to Bauserman we're in deep shit.

OSU is not winning next week either way. This team is in shambles and they have a Head Coach who has the deer in the headlights look most of the time.

Guiton or Graham needs to get ready to be the backup- for now and the future.

Not sure why we got pass happy in the second half... especially with Bauserman. Keep the ball on the ground, use our EXCELLENT running game to chew up clock.

Fickel is not HC material for the simple fact that he isn't providing leadership. That was an ugly downward spiral in the second half. Someone needs to take control and get people back into it.

I really don't want to see Bauserman throwing another pass the rest of the season. I think his first pass was one of those 30 yards out of bounds passes right away... I knew then it wasn't going to end well for us if Miller can't come back.
  • jhay78
The OSU from the first 2.5 quarters has a chance to finish the season decently, maybe beat Michigan and go to a decent bowl.

However, the lack of leadership, especially when things go south or a tough situation arises, doomed them tonight and I'm afraid will make this season worse than '04 or '01.

Any word on Miller yet? I sure hope he's going to be OK.

As for why so many pass plays from Bauserman? He can't run. When your QB is a legitimate running threat the defense cannot cheat without the threat of being burned. With Bauserman at the controls, everything changes.

I got back from the bar awhile ago and decided to read through this thread for the lulz before watching some breaking bad (cool story, I'm aware), so I'll add my few pointless points.

    1. I said it before the season, and lol at anyone who tried to argue - Joe Bauserman had no business playing quarterback at Ohio State, ever. The only reason he ever should have sniffed the field is if he was head and shoulders ahead of everyone coming into the season. He obviously wasn't. No reason to play a 42 year old man who hasn't proven dick except that he blows in the 5 years he's been at the school when there are younger guys who might conceivably improve in the future. I've never seen a BCS quarterback who was less poised or talented than he is.

    2. As badly as Bauserman played (and if anyone tries to defend him then fucking shoot them on sight), the defense was still horrible in the 2nd half. They completely melted down. Should have been a win no matter who was at QB.

    3. Nebraska isn't good. At all. They just aren't. I've been saying that all year, but tonight solidifies it in my mind. I saw part of the games against Fresno State, Washington, and Wisconsin, and was underwhelmed at best in all of them. Wisconsin and possibly Michigan are the only top 25 teams in the Big 10 this year. If the Badgers don't go undefeated they should be embarrassed. The conference has taken heat in recent years, but I've honestly never seen it this bad. It's like the Big East, only with a legitimate national title contender added. If Wisconsin beats Michigan State (way better team but I never trust away victories) they should steamroll to a 12-0 season.

    4. I'm done sticking up for Luke Fickell. I don't care what shit you get dealt for a hand. You don't blow a 3 TD lead in the 2nd half at Ohio State. You just don't. GFY for a few years and let someone who knows what they're doing sit at the big boy table.

    5. Illinois is even worse than Nebraska. Ohio State WILL beat them next weekend. One of the worst 6-0 teams (I obviously haven't done any actual research, but they aren't good) in college football history.

I'm not sure what would be worse, getting beaten handily like I expected (predicted a 2 TD loss), or pissing it away like they did. At least tonight they showed potential, but the inability to finsih off a win might be even more of a buzz kill.

I skimmed the last few pages and didn't see any mention of this, and the only thing ESPN says is a 'sprain' but imagine if Miller's injury is worse than expected and he misses next week...Bauserman is the starting QB again.

Common Man had a good point after last week's loss. Fickell said he has no input on offense and that the offense is the offensive staff's baby. Common Man wondered why they even bothered calling him the head coach if that is the case. If doesn't speak to the offensive guys, nothing about his job has changed. The only difference would be that he now gets to talk to the media.

Common Man and Torg never have good points, and anyone that listens to them is retarded

If you have listened to them enough to make that sort of judgment, wouldn't that make you retarded too?

    1. Agree about Bauserman. Judging the way a number of those balls got away from him, you would have thought he hadn't thrown a football in five years.
    2. Agreed.
    3. The SEC and the B12 are the best two conferences top to bottom hands down. The B10, P12 and ACC are not deep as those leagues. Some of the bottom tier teams in the later three are some of the worst teams in all of the FBS.
    4. Luke is done at OSU. I expect he will land on his feet and be coaching somewhere next year though. You don't get your first job at a place like OSU. He should have taken a MAC job a few years ago and worked his way up.
    5. Illinois is worse than Nebraska overall, but I think they have a better offense than the Huskers. Given the limitations of this offense, the Illini could possibly just outscore OSU.

A lot being said about Miller's injury costing them the game. Ohio State had 1 (ONE) first down from the offense during Miller's three drives in the 3rd. 2 more came via penalty. They also had only one first down with Miller the entire 2nd quarter. Outside of the first quarter there was nothing consistent out of Ohio State on offense, with Miller or Bauserman.

17 of Ohio State's points came from a 63 yard TD run, a 32 yard screen play that was set up nicely, and a 3-point gift Nebraska gave them by throwing the ball from their own 20 with less than 30 seconds left. There were not many times where OSU beat Nebraska up and down the field though. On the other hand, Nebraska beat OSU like a drum up and down the field in the 2nd half. I think they had 26 yards rushing at half and ended up with almost 240.

    LOL, get this.

Coaches said after the game that OSU players tried to do too much late in the game, but then asked what OSU needed to do, they said "someone make a play"...

    Huh? SMH.

There was just much more confidence with Braxton in the game. I know it doesn't make much sense that his injury would have any affect on the offense, but that's the way it turned out.

I don't know if I buy that. The turnover where Lavonte David ripped the ball out of Miller's hands was huge. 2 plays later the bomb TD pass was even bigger. Miller got hurt on the next drive when it was about to be third and long. Nebraska was more than likely going to get the ball back anyway and the momentum had already shifted in a big way.
