GOLDEN DOMER AD BLASTS PITT

  • sleeper
ND needs to get off their high horse and join a conference. I hear the MAC or the Sun Belt is looking to expand, although I wouldn't mind seeing them in the B1G. They can battle it out with the other Indiana schools for the bottom 3 schools in the conference while providing the B1G with plenty of cash.

I'm just happy that the Golden Domers beat Pitt today.

I'm not saying they don't benefit from having ND in the conference for basketball et al, because they do. They would benefit more by having in the conference for football as well. ND however, benefits more from remaining independent in football. Notre Dame basically said that the Big East either take them in everything but football, or they don't take them at all. This was Notre Dame's setup because it was of maximum benefit to them, not because it helped out the rest of the schools in the Big East, and the Big East agreed because it benefited them better than not having them at all. While it is a mutually beneficial arrangement (it is more beneficial to Notre Dame) both sides agreed to it out of completely selfish motives with little regard to how it benefited the other.

It also benefits the Big East in football because Notre Dame agreed to play a few Big East teams a year, giving those teams automatic national television exposure.

So the Big East also benefits from Notre Dame remaining independent in football because at least twice a year, Big East teams are guaranteed national exposure.

They still benefit less than if ND were in the conference for football. All I am saying is that both benefit, but Notre Dame benefits more, and both sides made the agreement because for selfish reasons.
