Pryor to the raiders

Uhhhh, yeah while true, losing Tressel will, and rightly so imo, rest solely on TP's stupid tattooed ass. No one will remember Posey et al 10 years down the road, but rest assured Pryor will forever be remembered as the doosh that got Tressel fired, whether it was Tressel's lie that ultimately got him canned or not.lhslep134;870829 wrote:Uhm Terrelle Pryor didn't cost Tressel his job, Tressel cost himself his job by lying. He could have made Pryor ineligible for 5 games.
It's funny though, after all those five put him through, stabbing him in the back despite knowing the rules, Tressel still holds no ill will, angst or animosity toward them, quite the contrary. Not sure if I could be quite so forgiving so soon. -
lhslep134ytownfootball;870838 wrote:Uhhhh, yeah while true
That's all that needs to be said.
Terrelle Pryor contributed to the situation Tressel found himself in, but Tressel didn't have to lie. End of story. -

We're not talking about legacy, we're talking about blame. -
ytownfootballAnd I'm telling you history will turn on Pryor, and he'll be to blame by the majority.

So then let the majority (and it sounds more and more like you're a part of this) be ignorant.
Tressel dug his own grave. I don't give a damn what anyone has to say about it in 10 years, that's factually what happened, and no amount of time will change the facts, no matter how badly you or anyone else wants them too. -
ytownfootballTressel dug his own grave...lol
Who did he pick up the shovel for?
No...really, if a tree falls in the forest, there really is a sound, don't let anyone tell you otherwise. -

Sadly, I think you are both right. More people will give a pass to the guy who they want to believe is the "good guy". Tressel has so many good marks on his record that he'll get a pass. Pryor, on the other hand, has so many things working against him from his inability to communicate at higher than about a third grade level to the fact that his actions started the whole situation.
Tressel could have spared himself the problems by simply doing what the NCAA sees as the right thing. He has to live with the consequences and I bet he's accepted that. But, it'll be way to easy as time goes by and especially if OSU slips down the ladder a little bit for the "Pryor put him in the situation" to become even more prevalent than it already is. Tressel's message is mixed - which is more noble, honesty or loyalty? Pryor's actions don't have any conflict to resolve - he was selfish and it started the domino effect. -

I don't disagree but again, I'm not talking about perception, I'm talking about facts. The facts state Tressel lost his job because he lied, not because Terrelle Pryor illegally got free tattoos and whatever else. -

ytownfootballAs FANS, we have the freedom to apply the simple concept of cause and effect. We can choose to select our villains as they fit our parameters, regardless of whether or not our reasoning is defined by logic, it's the definition of the root of fanaticism. Simply as part of entertainment that's the way most will perceive the situation now and especially as time passes.
When it comes to something as trivial as "entertainment", I choose to blame Pryor, irrespective of how you or anyone else feels about it. Knowing that Jim lied doesn't matter as a "fan". -

Majority doesn't always mean correct -

So that would put him at about 600-700 lbs -
charliehustle14Well as a QB, he can't be worse than Russell was. As a WR, he can't be worse than what Heyward-Bey currently is.

Terrelle Pryor's actions cost him a 5-game suspension, not the head coach his job. -

So you're using fandom as a justification for why an admittedly ignorant and probably bias position is justifiable. Strong logic is strong. -
ytownfootball
Pretty much, yeah. It's entertainment in the long run, not life or death.2kool4skool;871451 wrote:So you're using fandom as a justification for why an admittedly ignorant and probably bias position is justifiable. Strong logic is strong.
Still bummed about losing Tressel, I really think the positives he brought to bear for the Alma mater grossly outweigh the negative. I know the guy lied about shit, still like to think he did it for reasons we may never know, it would have been easier on himself to just suspend them and move on, that's what is confusing to me. So from a biased fandom, self serving entertainment only perspective, I'll hate Pryor and blame him for losing arguably the best coach OSU has ever had, and not really give a fuck what anyone else has to say about it lol. -

At least he can admit his ignorance. A lot of people can't/won't. -
ytownfootball
Lol...it's not ignorant when you're aware. I just find it hard to believe that as a self admitted "fan" of Ohio State, you find no ill will or blame toward TP. I guess you're more a Florida fan? J/K, but TP gets at least part of the blame, even in the most Spockesian perspective no?lhslep134;871763 wrote:At least he can admit his ignorance. A lot of people can't/won't. -

On the contrary, I HATE Terrelle Pryor. I think he's an arrogant, self-centered douche.
However, I would have greatly preferred Tressel to just deal with Pryor's inevitable 5 game suspension (had he told the truth originally) than to lie about it, which cost him his job.
I completely see where you're coming from, and most OSU fans will inevitably want to blame Pryor, but I just cannot bring myself to do so, because doing so would take away the blame that Tressel deserves for lying, ya know? -
jordo212000Some people just can't see Tress for what he is/was. Heck of a good coach. Slippery when it comes to rule enforcement and reporting violations. In the end it cost him his job

That's not true. He never, to my knowledge, failed to cover up anything in the past (if you want me to go into detail about the YSU incident, look up some of my previous posts on the matter). His reasoning for covering THIS up was his "hierarchy" that placed an ongoing federal investigation above the NCAA rulebook. While I don't necessary disagree with that reasoning, I cannot deny his dismissal as appropriate for violating NCAA rules.
Now, did violations occur without him knowing it? Probably, but that's the same as every other school where you have to recruit thugs because they're superior football players. Don't believe me? The SEC has won what, 5 straight?, national titles with thug players. It's the nature of the beast. -

There was a report out there that Tressel did not meet expectations on his performance review when Geiger was still around. He was graded as "needs improvement"lhslep134;871842 wrote:That's not true. Eventually Gene Smith got rid of the paper review format
