Will this be the year an SEC team doesnt win the national championship?

  • Pick6
Well, what do you think? Alabama will still be good, but will be down a notch or two from the past few seasons. Auburn is a shot wonder. Florida is a big wildcard with a first time head coach. South Carolina has a pretty good team..but lets be honest, Spurrier's teams always seem to under achieve. LSU probably has the most talented team in the country, but you can count on Les costing them a game. I still figure there will be a SEC team in the national championship game just due to the success they have had lately.

Personally, im like Oregon this season to win it all. Big matchup with them vs LSU in the early season.

Until oversigning is no longer allowed, the SEC will maintain a significant edge on every other college program.

When you can basically sign an extra recruiting class every 5 years or so, and cut the players who aren't as good as the new guys coming in, you have a built in talent pipeline that isn't available to everyone.

I believe it is the single reason for the SEC's dominance of late, and I would expect it will continue for teams like Alabama and LSU, who take advantage of what their league allows and most others do not.

no..... unfortunately Alabama looks to be really good this year. but if anyone could challenge them id say Oklahoma or maybe Florida st.

By "this year" do you mean 2017?

If the NCAA does the right thing and let's Ohio State play in a bowl game, there's no doubt in my mind they'll DOMINATE whatever garbage SEC team is thrown at them.

I think Oklahoma is without question the most talented team this year, but LSU or Bama will probably end up in the title game (assuming one of them wins the SEC championship), and Oklahoma might choke along the way.

LSU is the most picked team by the media, and why shouldnt they? But, it will depend on their matchup's with Oregon and Bama. I wish LSU played a B10 type of schedule where it would be a guarantee to go 13-0 but we gotta play 6 ranked teams a year. Just builds them up to be prepared for a title game though.
Oregon loses alot of linemen and will get beat by double digits by LSU. I still dont see what anyone sees in Oklahoma or FSU. Unless they are a TON better from last year, they are not "very" good. Oklahoma squeaked by nobodies last year in a down B12. And we all know OK's history in BCS games. If OSU wasnt a bunch of paid players and had their coach, this would of been a good year for them.

LSU or Bama will win the title this year, BOOK IT and quote me on it for future reference.

LSU still has to cut 7 players before fall camp to get to 83 (they are currently on a 2 scholarship reduction for a recruiting violation by an assistant coach). If you go to oversigning.com, they have a whole article about where LSU is currently at and where they need to be.

Seriously, if anyone doesn't believe this is a huge advantage for teams, they are deluding themselves. I'd like to see the NCAA step in and either tell everyone to go ahead and over-sign and then cut players who don't make it, or put a stop to it altogether.

Is it me or are the only powers that be that are disallowing it is the conference and not the NCAA? If the Big 10(I don't know who else doesn't allow it) doesn't like that the SEC teams and possibly other conferences are doing it, then until the NCAA steps in, why don't they do it?

Why aren't all the other conferences, including the Big Ten, doing it?

Because it's not right...or fair to the student athletes.

It's also why some SEC schools, like Georgia, refuse to participate in it.

The top teams of the SEC are what makes it seem elite. What they have done in the post season the past few years is why you play 6 ranked teams cgw. Match the top 4 big 10 vs sec teams from last season.. There is a good chance it ends up split 2-2. Alabama and probably Auburn as the winners. The rest are really a wildcard imo.

But jesus christ lets not make it another big 10-sec bitchfest.

I forgot about oklahoma. They return alot of talent as well. But like cats said, we all know their track record in the big games. I could see Wisconsin going undefeated. There is always the possibilty osu has another great season as well. Yes, we have a true fresh qb, but a lot of experience and talent surrounding him will make his transition easier.

Umm, the big 10 played 4 games last year vs. the SEC and went winless (OSU's game didnt count). MSU was a joke as a top 10 team like I said plenty of times last year, and they got spanked by Bama, a team that LSU beat. AUB, LSU, Bama, Miss St, Ark, were pretty solid last year. UF and USCe werent too shabby either. There is absolutely no comparison from top to bottom. Wisconsin proved to be overrated some also. If I remember right.....OSU, Wisconsin and MSU played one ranked team on their regular season schedule the whole year. Thats pitiful compared to an SEC schedule where week in and week out is a tough contest.

And LSU just blew by Tennessee. Lucky the refs didn't allow Tennessee to get their personnel on the field or it would have been another "L" for you guys.

True, the Big 10 can claim zero wins against the SEC last season, but the SEC still has 1 loss to the Big Ten according to Arkansas' record books.

When's the last time they did that? Not in my lifetime. #irrelevant

    lol

I'll be moving to Tennessee soon. The managers in our Tennessee plant grilled me about the Ohio State "scandal" and the Big 10 in general. I told them that when the NCAA steps in and forces the SEC to stop the "over-booking" scam and if the SEC still dominates, I'll gladly admit SEC superiority.

    Until then, cheaters gonna cheat.

    Alabama - Wisconsin
    Auburn- OSU
    Iowa- Arkansas
    MSU- LSU

Not much of a difference there IMO, besides probably the Alabama. Don't care if they had 2 losses or not, I still believe they were the best team in the country last year.

Bama had 3 losses bud, hardly makes them the best team in the country. Iowa and MSU were jokes IMO.

Still doesnt change my opinion, though. When Purdue beat OSU a couple years ago, it didnt mean they had a better team than OSU that year, they were just better than them on that day. Iowa was a pretty good team, just struggled down the stretch. They beat a great passing attack in Missouri. Would have matched up well against Arkansas. MSU was still good, imo, just not an elite team. And the best team in the country showed they were the best, which made MSU look that much worse.

Oversigning is usually a school-by-school choice. To lump "all SEC schools" into the category of guilty and to exclude "non-SEC schools" from that same category isn't correct.

As someone else says, it's really a question of rules vs. morals. The NCAA hasn't gotten involved, nobody is breaking rules, but it's basically a way to bypass how things were designed to go.
  • Writerbuckeye
Perhaps, but the SEC as a whole gets blamed because it's the policy of the league. If the league didn't condone it, people wouldn't be blaming the league, whether members participate or not.

LOL. There isn't one conference or school that operates on morals. It falls under tradition moreso ("that's not how we used to do it" ) .

I think most conferences expected the NCAA to step in when this practice started in earnest, whenever that was, but it never happened, and here we are.

LSU will not win a title with george jefferson at qb. My pick would be Oklahoma.
