Fiesta Bowl: Boise State vs. TCU

  Is anyone else extremely disappointed by this bowl match-up? Terrible job by the selection committee...the ratings are going to be horrible because people want to see these guys take on the BCS conference teams. It's almost like the Fiesta Bowl is taking the fall for everyone else so that way they can continue to undermine the non-BCS teams from participation in their exclusive club. So disappointing...oh, and I think TCU wins but it will be a good game.

  This game was created to save the embarrassment of two non-BCS teams winning BCS games. Not saying the both would have won, but imagine if two of the four BCS games were won by non-BCS schools...

  I said on the other thread that this does exactly what they want to have done, that being giving no llegitimacy to non BCS schools.

  This sucks. . . put them against teams from the BCS conferences. . . this is essentially like when Boise State played Utah earlier this year. . . I didn't care, and I didn't watch. I probably won't watch this game either. I couldn't care less how they stack up against each other.

  Yeah, it just gives neither team the opportunity to prove themselves. Like the poster above said, can you imagine the outcry if two BCS bowls were won by teams from non-BCS conferences? Who cares who the best non-BCS team is? I want to see the best non-BCS teams take on and beat the best BCS teams and prove what an absolute joke this system is.

  Yup this is an attempt to save the BCS schools the embarrassment and it ticks me off. Something goofy must have happened. If I remember correctly, alot of people were not picking this matchup. Maybe some funny business behind the scenes.

  That could be possible. I just hate how political and fake this entire system is. David Stern must be a consultant for the bowl selection committee.

  Its funny how that game is the end all reply to any discussion of a mid-major in a BcS game, but Boise-Oklahoma & Utah-Alabama get forgotten

  ESPN said this matchup was to have another undefeated BCS game winner. I can already see the talk about the split NC if TCU wins.

  But Hawaii/Georgia is all the justification the BCS committee needs, and the other two are all the more reason it is unlikely to happen again if at all possible.

  Yeah, I wonder how distraught the selection committee was when Utah beat down Alabama? Their reaction was probably similar to the reaction of David Stern and the Knicks brain trust when Stephen Curry was taken by the Warriors right in front of the Knicks' noses in the draft.

  IMO, this is a slap in the face to both universities. Sure it will be a great matchup, possibly the only BCS bowl I watch this year, but both teams should have had the chance to prove themselves against the top level conferences. This matchup was only made to make the BCS conferences not have to go through the embarrassment of losing to one of these teams.

  Who would they have been matched up against? TCU is the #3 team in the country and BSU is #6. #1 and #2 are matched up together and #4 UC is playing #5 UF. OSU and Oregon are contractually obligated to play in the Rose Bowl and GT is committed to the Orange. The bowl tie-ins really hamper who plays where and the ability to pick and choose who plays whom.

  It will definitely be a good game...its just the winner doesn't prove anything and the ratings will suck, further undermining the participation of non-BCS schools in BCS games. I really wander how much money the selection committee is paying the Fiesta Bowl under the table to jump on the sword for the benefit of the BCS conferences.

  I don't like they game. The idea of them not being in the tittle game is that they are not as good. So by playing themselves we still will not get to see if they are "that" good. I hate it.

While the Broncos did sell their allotment of tickets for their 2007 appearance, that was against Oklahoma. The Fiesta is banking on fans from both teams making 15-hour trips in this climate to see their teams play after they drew just 34,628 fans last year in San Diego? There couldn't be a worse scenario for Glendale's local economy.

Junker said the committee "talked to our partners at Fox Sports and we had very sound advice from them and we think that they like the matchup."

  That article was a good read. Couldn't agree more. That article certainly poses some interesting questions to ask the committee regarding their selections.

  Questions... that will go unanswered. I hate seeing Congress get involved in sports but at this point, it seems like it is the only thing to change this terrible system that favors the big boys
