Fiesta Bowl: Boise State vs. TCU

SykotykCongress isn't 'getting involved in sports', they're dealing with the law. Universities are tax-exempt entities, and are regulated by the federal government in what they can and can't do. If the NCAA would like to pay tax on all their revenue, I'm sure Congress wouldn't mind letting them do whatever they wanted.

These schools choose to be members of this organization. No one is forcing them to be NCAA 1a (or bowl division or any other name you want to use). They can go to a different divison, go NAIA, or start a new organization if they aren't happy. I would like to see a playoff, but I don't want Congress setting it up.jordo212000 wrote:

I can't see their being any talk of a split NC if TCU wins. Everyone will say "Who did TCU play?" or "Well, TCU beat a soft Boise State team." The only talk that will come out of having (possibly) three undefeated teams will be renewed calls for a playoff.stephen3108 wrote: ESPN said this matchup was to have another undefeated BCS game winner. I can already see the talk about the split NC if TCU wins. -

It wouldn't matter who either of these teams played, it wouldn't prove anything. So what if TCU played Florida in the Sugar Bowl and won? Do we remember what happened last year when Alabama went into the Sugar Bowl and laid a goose egg after being emotionally drained from losing the SEC Champ game? If TCU played Florida and won, the popular reason would be that Florida just wasn't in the game emotionally, that their goal was to win the National Championship game, and after that dream slipped away, they just didn't care anymore. This may end up being the most exciting BCS game of any, and I don't think ratings will be hurt at all. Other than the Bama/Horns game, these two teams have the most to prove, neither is going to want to lose the game. Now, if the system were different, and these teams actually had something to play for by being matched up against a one loss BCS conference team, then I wouldn't mind that match up, but thats not the case.trep14 wrote:
It will definitely be a good game...its just the winner doesn't prove anything and the ratings will suck, further undermining the participation of non-BCS schools in BCS games. I really wander how much money the selection committee is paying the Fiesta Bowl under the table to jump on the sword for the benefit of the BCS conferences.rookie_j70 wrote: Honestly, I think this will be an interesting match up -

bulldog8What will it take to disgust the viewers enough to send a message to the powers to be? This system has so many flaws that need fixed. The only way things will change is if the ratings go completely in the tank. I think this year is as bad as its been and hopefully it will continue to get worse - to the point where college football fans and viewers get so fed up that they stop watching. Maybe then the powers to be will take into consideration the players, schools, and fans and make a change. Personally, I am a huge college football fan, but the system has taken away from the game lately. Theyre robbing the young men who play the game, robbing the schools, and robbing the fans. I am slowly becoming a bigger fan of the NFL just because of the fairness of determining a champion. Although many things deter from the game in the NFL, playoffs are the only fair way of determing who belongs at the top. So, now that i've talked up a good storm I have to admit that come bowl season, my balls will probably fall off and i'll still watch every game. It's still a good question to consider as fans and viewers. Essentially, we control the fate of the system. The viewers are the money and the powers to be will always follow the money. When will we have had enough?

The only thing that screwed up the system this year were the preseason rankings. Reminds me a lot of the year Auburn was left out of the title game. Boise's gotta play more than one ranked team to get enough credit to warrant championship contention. TCU beat Clemson when they were ranked, and beat two other teams that remain ranked currently, one of the best defenses in the nation and an offense thats not weak by any means. Cincinnati has the fire power to keep up with anyone, but aside from their pass rushers, have virtually no defense at all. Texas has done nothing pretty this season. However, the big knock on them all season long has been their defense, for one reason or another. The old saying that the Big 12 plays no defense, yet UT holds its opponents to approx 15 points a game. Nebraska's offense isn't potent by any means, but they still average 24 points a game, and UT held them to 12, AND 106 total yards! The whole season everyone's assumed that Texas is this high scoring, no defense team that will only be able to win by scoring points, and its not true at all. I still feel that TCU is the most deserving team to face Alabama for the title, but I don't think Alabama is going to crush Texas as many seem to believe. UT's front seven is about as legit as it gets, and McElroy is going to have to play like he did against Florida in order to beat Texas, IMO.bulldog8 wrote: What will it take to disgust the viewers enough to send a message to the powers to be? FootwedgeRematch from last year's barn burner. Boise will look to avenge last year's tough loss.
Bookies have TCU favored by 8. I would take Boise plus 8 points against anybody, including the German Army...just sayin. -
TBone14What I hate is that they played this bowl game last year. I wanna see them take on the big boys.

0311sdpHate the matchup, I wanted to see them play teams from the BCS conferences so that we could see how good they are and if they should have gotten national title consideration. This game answers no questions, I personally thought that TCU was the best team that I saw all year (offense, defense, special teams) although they were hard to judge because they didn't play any good teams (unless you call Clemson a good team, I don't) It almost looks like a conspiracy by the BCS to keep them out of any meaningful game.

What don't you understand? "This game answers no questions." There are no questions to be answered! So what if TCU played Florida in the Sugar Bowl and beat them, are they going to get an extra game afterwards, no. We saw that shit last year with Utah and Alabama, and it didn't matter, because Utah won that game, got nothing other than a W out of it, and the critics said they won because Bama was demoralized after losing to Fla in the SEC Champ game. What questions do you want answered exactly? Some of you guys want the BCS to be a conspiracy year after year. You act as though you want a solution, but then, instead of wanting to see a game between two football teams that want to win their BCS game more than anyone other than the two playing for the Nat'l Championship, you get all pissed off because "this game answers no questions." TCU for the most part played an OK schedule. You don't think Clemson is a good team, but they were ranked 15th at the time TCU traveled there and won. Clemson just doesn't know how to finish football games, they are the Notre Dame of the ACC. 4 of 5 losses were by a touchdown or less. Utah ranked, BYU ranked. Cincinnati can't give up 35+ points in three games down the stretch and expect to make it. I'm pissed as hell that they passed up TCU in the final BCS rankings.0311sdp wrote: Hate the matchup, I wanted to see them play teams from the BCS conferences so that we could see how good they are and if they should have gotten national title consideration. The thing these teams need to do if they ever want a shot at legitimacy is to realign their conferences. If Boise St joined the MWC, they would have at worst four quality programs year in and out. Get SMU to join, a team that June Jones is going to improve just as he did Hawaii, and now you have a decent conference.
Fact of the matter is that nothing really matters now. If TCU beating Boise State doesn't show you that maybe they deserved to be playing for the title, then nothing will. The season ends after the Nat'l Champ game regardless of who TCU would have won or lost to, so it really does not matter if they were picked (which the Bowl host picks the teams they want anyways, so the Fiesta Bowl committee picked TCU BSU) to play Fla, Cincy, Ga Tech, or BSU, who cares? -
darbypitcher22It will be a good game but you'd love to see these two teams both take on an automatic qualifier.....

0311sdp:huh::huh:
Didn't I say that I thought TCU was the best team that I saw all year? I just wanted them to have a chance to show the media and nonbelievers how good they are. Yes Boise is a good team, probably a top 3 or 4 team but you know as well as I that beating them in the Fiesta bowl will not mean as much to the National media as say a win over a Florida in the Sugar Bowl or an Oregon or Ohio State. These are the signature wins that you need to elevate your program and get the respect that you deserve even though I have to agree with you that Utah and Boise State still got no respect even after winning their games. I think it should have been TCU and Alabama playing for the championship.h2thaizzo wrote:

newarkcatholicfanOther then the Ohio State game this is the bowl game I am looking most forward to watching

Fred GarvinI am very disappointed with this match-up. TCU especially deserved to have the opportunity to play a school from a BCS conference. I was really interested to see the Frogs defense against a top level team. I think they could compete very well at that level.
It does seem to be a cop-out. Almost like the big boys said "fine, we will let you into the BCS games, but you don't get to play us".
I do think this may be an entertaining game, but not what I was hoping for. -
gorocks99Pumped for this game tonight, even if it is "just" two non-AQ schools. Should be a lot of fun!

jordo212000I'll check it out. Still disappointed about that BCS matching this teams up, but what can you do.

FOX won night with The Fiesta Bowl, followed by ABC with the premiere of The Bachelor and CBS with reruns.Cleveland Buck wrote: The ratings will be miserable.
The premiere of Conveyor Belt of Love came in second to Boise St. vs. TCU in the 10pm hour.
There was two hours of Heroes on NBC and with the Fiesta Bowl I’m not sure anything can be read into the fate of Heroes once it moves back to 9pm next week, but last night it fared worse in the 9pm hour than it did in the 8pm hour.
The Bachelor: On the Wings of Love from 8-10pm drew an average audience of 9.5 million viewers and a 3.3/8 in Adults 18-49 and was up over its season premiere a year ago in both total viewers (9%) and Adults 18-49 (6%) and was its highest with young adults since April 2007 and was the 2nd most-watched opener of the show in 9 seasons. Outside of the Fiesta Bowl, it was number one with adults 18-34 for the night.
