RUINED...? You have a pretty short memory my friend. I have (2) words for you....John Cooper! Do you remember those years of being a "premier program in college football" before Jim Tressel. I do and never want to see them ever again!!!

Our program was in the toliet and Tress didn't ruin it...he RESTORED Ohio State football to natinoal promenance.

Nobody will ever convince me that Tress didn't fall on his sword and take one to protect OSU and that prick Gene Smith. Gene Smith has been silent the whole time on this and distancing himself so none of the shit hits him. You don't become and stay as HC of a school like Ohio State without constant communication with the AD & anyone who thinks Gene Smith was't told initially about "the e-mail" concerning Prior and the others acceptaning gifts is out of touch with reality. Gene Smith would have be the 1st person Tress would have gone to with this and IMO is the one who said to keep this thing under wraps until it all finally unraveled

You're a fool if you believe that.

Yeah it was sarcasm. The roads they took were different, but that's because the USC situation was completely different than this.

    Why?

Part of me thinks that there's no way Tressel didn't tell his superiors and he's taking the fall so the program doesn't get hit harder than it's going to (meaning if the AD is found to be at fault and not Tressel it's obviously way worse).

Is that my overwhelming belief? No, I think he lied and he is justly out of a job. But being from Youngstown and following Tressel literally my entire life and meeting him several times part of me just has a hard time accepting he lied lol.

How can you honestly think Tressel is falling on the sword for OSU here? I mean OSU fined him 250 grand and now they've forced him out. Honestly, why would you protect someone who took money from you and then forced you out of a job? Tressel is the only one to blame here. Look at the facts, I think you're the one who needs to get in touch with reality.

The truth is, Tressel never lied. He simply forgot about the numerous allegations he receives daily from random sources. When asked to sign some paperwork, he made the mistake of not carefully reading over the entire document, signed it, and then some reporter did some digging and found a document saying he didn't know about it.

He never came out and said "I do not know about these allegations", like everyone would want you to believe.

Oh, well, in that case, it's all ok. They should give him his job back and the NCAA should pack up and leave.

Sleeper I don't think we'll ever find out the entire truth one way or another, so let's just stop speculating on it. Fact of the matter is Tressel DID violate 10.1 and now everyone who has done so has found themselves looking for a new job.

Ah, a bitter Michigan fan. Here's to Luke Fickell being undefeated against Michigan, something Tressel was never good enough to do.

actually the program was in the toilet before cooper got there. if cooper could have beaten michigan he still would be the head coach. you seem to forget cooper's buckeyes always seemed to be ranked in the top 3 till he played michigan, and had some of his better players stayed 4 years maybe he would have won some national titles. and dont forget the michigan teams that cooper got be beat by were far better than the michigan teams tressel beat. really beating michigan these days isnt saying too much. but i do agree with your opinion on gene smith. i dont think tressel was stupid enough not to inform smith of this wrong doing. its not like this is tressel's first rodeo. does anyone really think that tressel was arrogant enough to think he was bigger than the school and that he could violate the terms of his contract? right now this is damage control , gee and smith trying to save their own asses and save face for OSU.

I don't think the haters should either. We will honestly NEVER know what really happened unless Tressel releases a memoir and even then I don't see the full truth coming out.

The only thing we know is he violated rule 10.1. If he was covering up, we won't know, and if he was just lying and not covering up, we won't know.

Beating Michigan would have helped, but NOT saved Cooper. There was so much going on within the program, that eventually Cooper would have got shit canned similar to Tressel. Tressel got comfortable and turned the cheek. Cooper was doing that for a longer period of time, and winning as well. Michiganw wasn't the only reason he was fired. That is the easy thing to say. But there was in fact SO much more to it behind the scenes.

I'm not surprised. I've been saying he should be suspended for all of next year. But, the pressure finally got the old coach. Tressel is great, but the Institution of Ohio State is greater than any coach. OSU has taken a huge hit, but OSU will move on and be just as strong in a few years.
Let's move on, forget about it.

Oh, and 8-4 at best next year.

Agree with your first two paragraphs. Not the third. I myself, admittingly supported and thought Tressel was protecting players/taking the sword for someone else. But the more that came out, that was in fact, NOT the case. He thought he could win a championship, and thought he would not get caught. That is the BOTTOM line. He fucked up big time, over something relatively small when you think about all of this ...freaking tatoos! It wasn't cheating for recruits, he didn't set players up in million dollar homes...it was over stupid ass tatoos! Really mind boggeling when you think about it! Almost comical. What a sad, sad ending....
I truely believe Tressel is a very good man. He has done ten fold great things for OSU and others over this violation. Unfortunately, this is what he will be remembered for, for a long while until the dust settles. Oh well....life goes on, and OSU will survive and be near the top before we know it.

I said when the initial tattoo stuff broke that this was going to get ugly. It was obvious that he wasn't going to survive all of this with all of the backpedaling and he and the university has been doing ever since the news broke. There was just too much that didn't make sense here.

I love Tress, but it was time for him to go. You can't do what he did and expect to have a job. Completely inexcusable. IMO this should have happened long ago. Before the vultures started circling. While he is packing up, I wonder if he could take the Tattoo 5 with him? I will not support TP or any of those other bums when they return this season

I can't help but think this was a preemptive move. That SI story must have some bombshells in it

Please elaborate. If Cooper had beaten Michignan his fate would have been different.

Why the hell would anyone think "they'd get away with it" when there was a federal investigation going on? You project stupidity to Tressel if you really feel like he thought he wouldn't get got with that shit storm brewing lol.
  • jordo212000
If Tress was "falling on the sword" like some of you are saying, I'm sure that that would have come out when everybody and their brother was asking to see all emails pertaining to this situation. Don't you think somebody would have broke the news that there was a massive cover-up?

If there was a cover-up (Tress told Smith), I can assure that Tress wouldn't walk away quietly. Smith also wouldnt force a resignation either. Because Tress could easily bring him down with evidence.

Some of my fellow Buckeye fans need to take off the tin foil hats and think logically.

And if OSU did NOT go looking into emails, already AFTER the shit hit the fan. He may have gotten away with it. Why the fuck do you think he lied in first place? lol People lie so NOT to get in trouble, with the thought that it might blow over, or they can cover it up! DUH!

They need to clean house after this season. Get rid of everybody who was involved. Also, we're Ohio State, need to get somebody with actual head coaching experience.
