ptown_trojans_1Agreed on the Heyward pic for the 6 straight.
Also, agree on Pryor and Masoli for the Rose Bowl, with the Oregon Duck and Brutus being on there as well. -

For instance, I may take pleasure in seeing USC do so poorly down the stretch this season, however, because they beat OSU, I'll usually keep my mouth shut about it on here. Or I may love the fact that Florida lost and that Tim Tebow looked like a 12 year old girl who just saw Sanjya on the sideline, but I'm not going to be blasting him or the Gtors around here. That's why I wanted to know who specifically you are a fan of, to see if I should quietly take your bashing of my team because yours is better and therefore I deserve it, or if your just some moron Michigan/ND/whoever fan who hates OSU and has no place to talk.
Here are my reasons.ytownfootball wrote: Just a hater, no reason given.
1) Local media. I've lived in SEC country, and even in a town the size of Toledo the local teams don't dominate the news the same way that OSU does. When I hear "Armed robbery, three suspects, armed and dangerous, police are still looking.....but first, Ohio State and New Mexico State!" that's just pathetic.
I won't even get into the most basic thing of all, and that's the complete lack of coverage of the lawlessness and laughable academics that held place under John Cooper. The rule was "if it's being reported nationally, we have to report it; if not, then no". This is how things like a starting linebacker being arrested and charged with assault for re-arranging a woman's face with a beer mug in a drunken brawl at 2 AM isn't widely known. Neither, for that matter, were any of the drug-related offenses that took place for 15 years.
2) The arena situations and the unethical behavior of Ohio State as it relates to it. Value City Arena was built at taxpayer expense with two conditions being promised by Ohio State; they violated both. Screw 'em.
3) Personal reasons. A good friend of mine went into the OSU medical center in fairly good health and left in a permanent vegetative state thanks to malpractice committed by two doctors.
4) The fans. I've dealt directly with the fan bases of Georgia, LSU, South Carolina, Florida, and Bammer. Ohio State is worse than all of them...a LOT worse. And if you've never been around any of them, it's difficult to fathom what it's like.
5) The only time my team played OSU, my team won. I'm not going anywhere with that, just pointing it out. -

My first guess is that you are a Tennessee fan5) The only time my team played OSU, my team won. I'm not going anywhere with that, just pointing it out.
my other guesses would be Clemson or Air Force -

When an arena was first being discussed for Columbus, Ohio State thought they should be at the front of the line (typical OSU, thinking they run the city). Others wanted to hold off because of the possibility of NHL expansion and a possible NBA relocation that was being discussed under the radar.NOL fan wrote:

It was agreed that VCA would be built in addition to the possibility of an NHL arena, but two conditions would have to be met first before money would be allocated and construction would be allowed to begin:
1) VCA could not have any luxury suites or anything beyond what is generally classified as "loge seating".
2) VCA could not bid on or host any non-OSU or non-OHSAA events.
Ohio State stood on the floor of the Ohio state legislature and promised that these conditions would be met. Rather than actually following up with it, consider this.
1) VCA has 52 full-scale luxury suites; if you want rental information on them, they flaunt it right on the website.
2) VCA opened with a Neil Diamond concert and has hosted between 30 and 50 non-OSU and non-OHSAA events every year. The result of this is that both venues (VCA and Nationwide) have to pay substantially more to host an event (by "substantially more", we're talking anywhere from two to eight times as much, which comes out to anywhere from $100K to $1.5 million EXTRA compared to other cities). One of these arenas is backed by taxpayer money, the other is not. Guess which one gets screwed?
The cumulative numbers I've heard of what would basically be total damages to Nationwide Arena as a result of OSU breaking the second condition (never mind the first) over the last 10 years is anywhere from $10 to $50 million.
You're right on one. I'm indifferent to Clemson, and I have a vested interest in Air Force for another year.NNN wrote:

NOL fanyou said that the VCA was built with taxpayer money, can you provide a source of that? Most of what I can find about the funding of VCA mentions most of it was private support. Of the total $116 million cost, I can only find mention of $15 million coming from the state (for the initial design study)

krazie45NNN we may not see eye to eye on Ohio State but I agree with you on VCA. I hate that building (and trust me, I spend a LOT of time over there). It was the biggest waste of money Ohio State has ever produced. There was no need to build it at all. They could've simply expanded or built a new Ice Rink and renovated St. John Arena (one of the best college basketball venues in the country in terms of history and atmosphere). The Schott has a terrible basketball atmosphere. The student section seating arrangement is atrocious. They close the upper deck for women's games, rarely sell out men's games, and basically give away hockey tickets. Concerts should be held at Nationwide which is a nicer arena. The only thing the Schott is good for is the OHSAA tournaments which, again, could easily be held at St. John Arena. Now they're begging for donors to add a whole new front and two new practice courts. It's absolutely ridiculous.

darbypitcher22wow how did this go from a wallpaper thread to the tax cost of VCA to the taxpayers?

krazie45Probably because we're still awaiting the wallpaper...

I love it when there is a conflict and the men have to go back to St John. I think I've been to every one of those games. -
darbypitcher22St. John is an electric place to be. A band box of an old joint but its loud as hell

As someone who lives in SEC land I call bullshit on your local media critique.
Media coverage where I live is more focused on sports down here than when I spent time in columbus.
maybe you lived somewhere else.

As someone who deals with Non OSU fans on a daily basis I can assure you that there are just as many ass-hats who support other schools as there are who support OSU. As a matter of fact I know a lot of SEC fans who are so blinded by SEC greatness that it is next to impossible to hold a conversation with them. -

The conference dominance idea only started in the last five years; it was a direct reaction to the Big Ten fans who act like Notre Dame fans.ptangzoot wrote:

As for the media...let's think about the size of SEC cities.
COLUMBUS - pop. 754,885
Larger than....
Tuscaloosa - 90,221
Fayetteville - 67,158
Baton Rouge - 227,017
Columbia - 116,278
Gainesville - 114,375
Athens - 113,398
Nashville - 596,462
Lexington - 282,114
Starkville - 21,869
Oxford - 11,756
Knoxville - 183,546
Auburn - 56,088
It's not like there's any shortage of things to do in Columbus. When the media in eastern Alabama covers Auburn football like they do, it's a far cry from when a city 15 times that size has the same attitude. -
ptangzootSo if columbus has a smaller population it would be ok to hear about them all the time??
What a lame excuse.
SEC arrogance has existed a lot longer than 5 years, remember Bear Bryant?? I know a lot of people that swear he invented football.
Whatever, troll on.... -

The only people who have such a high opinion of Bear Bryant are idiot Bammers, and no one in the rest of the conference can stand them.ptangzoot wrote: So if columbus has a smaller population it would be ok to hear about them all the time??

You know what a maggot and a Bammer have in common? Both can live off a dead bear forever. -
krazie45As for the media coverage NNN, what else are they supposed to cover? Columbus is a big city but people in America don't give enough of a shit about Hockey or Soccer to constantly cover the Blue Jackets and Crew. The Clippers are a minor league team. What else do you think should dominate the sports page?
