Urban Meyer buys house in Upper Arlington.

Ohio State missing their heac coach for 5 games could lead them to not only be out of the national title hunt if they lose 1 of them, but also lead to a lesser bowl at the end of the year. Yeah, Pearl was out for 8 conference games, but Tennessee still made the NCAA tournament. I will also add that a head football coach is more important to the game than a head basketball coach. MUCH more strategy and scouting involved in football.
Which part of the strategy and scouting will Tressel's suspension cause him to miss? -
darbypitcher22Isn't Urban from Ohio originally? maybe he just wanted a place back in his home state?

Daughters playing sports in the south. He says he walked away to enjoy watching them. Why move up here?
Bill Cowher's Strongsville house thinks this is bunk. -
FidmeisterAlso, let's consider this: If you were Urban Meyer rich, would you move from a state with no income tax to one that has an income tax?

Let me re-phrase, in-game adjustments and strategy, not scouting. Much more important than in basketball.

Depends on which state he'll be filing his taxes in. He may own more than one home. -
BCBulldogMaybe Herbstreit gave him a killer price on his old place.

thedynasty1998I don't believe it. However, if true, that is very strange. Who the hell wants to move to Columbus, OH from Florida?

"Meyer, an Ohio native, began his coaching career at Ohio State as a tight ends/receivers coach during the 1986 and ’87 seasons." -

Some research shows that states with no income tax balance out by taxing everything else A LOT higher.
In reality, it shows that those income tax-free states have higher taxes overall than states that have an income tax. I am not sure he's worried about his taxes. If that were the case, then why isn't everyone living in those few states. South Dakota is pretty barren and there's no income tax here. -

Doesn't SD also have the best unemployment rate in the country? -

Meyer was raised in Ashtabula. He played football and got his undergrad from the University of Cincinnati. Met his wife at UC. Sister is the Vice Provost there. Got his Master's at OSU. -
thedynasty1998I thought he went to Bowling Grad for his undergrad, but little danny is correct.
However, upon looking at his wikipedia page, it states he was drafted in the 13th round as a SS by the Atlanta Braves and spent two years playing in the minors. Pretty interesting fact that I wasn't aware of. -
TiernanNo way this is even remotely true...it would be front page news in every Ohio paper and a leading story on ESPN. I don't come on here much anymore but I see the level of intelligence hasn't gotten any higher during my absence.

too bad the Pearl and Tressel situations are nothing alike.
Pearl created the initial violation, the covered it up, then lied about it, then continued to commit violations up until about a month ago.
Tressel lied to the NCAA and possibly covered it up. -
wkfanIf true, I may have to re-think my allegiance to The Ohio State University football program..

Much more similar than most people think. They both lied and covered it up. Main difference is that Tressel could be accused of knowingly playing with ineligible players.
Heard someone say that if Pearl would have just been honest in the first place the violations would have been minor. Tressel's initial failure to report would be considered more serious than minor, and then you add the lying to the NCAA.
Bilas was asked about the comparison this morning on Mike and Mike and he said that he likens lying to the NCAA as lying to a grand jury. The NCAA will severely punish those who knowingly lie. -

lol people need to stfu and get over it. Once the NCAA rules on Tressel it will be over. They will most likely fine him more or give him more games and then it will be done. LJ is right the situations are night and day. Pearl orchastrated a cover up after he committed the violation. All of these OSU outsiders writing stuff about what is going to happen at OSU is laughable.
This paragraph takes the cake. Try checking the schedule and talent OSU has, they will be fine without Pryor. The NCAA hammer will not fall on OSU it will fall on Tressel. Worst case we will have to vacate 2009 and 2010 wins and Tressel gets suspended for 2011 season. End story, please talk about Auburn or LSUs 2 year self investigation...Let’s face it, Tressel has lost all credibility and could face massive sanctions once the NCAA is done investigating his role in covering up violations by his players. If the NCAA hammer falls and the Buckeyes struggle this year (and you know they will with quarterback Terrelle Pryor and Tressel suspended for the first five games), the pressure will mount and Tressel will ultimately resign. -
Commander of AwesomeI heard this is true from Bill Cowher's house in Strongsville.

Not really. Tressel is guilty of 1 violation, Pearl is guilty of many. Not even close to the same situation. -
LJOf course, and at least for now, there’s a big difference between the Pearl and Tressel situations. Much like OSU did, UT resolutely stood behind Pearl, even in the face of intense national criticism, when the lies to the NCAA first surfaced last year. It wasn’t until Pearl and/or his coaching staff committed two additional violations — including one this month – after he was initially busted that the situation changed and the school had almost no choice but to fire the popular hoops coach. As far as what is known publicly, there have been no additional transgressions committed by Tressel since he was first confronted with emails back in January that showed beyond any reasonable doubt that he knew players had received impermissible benefits.

Why is everyone around the country comparing the two then? Of course they are not exactly the same, but they do have similarities.
Both lied to the NCAA. Both didn't come forward until getting caught. Tressel already has been determined to be in violation of a 10.1 offense, and Pearl will likely be as well. -

And that's where it ends. Pearl comitted MORE violations than Tressel to begin with and Pearl CONTINUED to committ violations. They are only comparing the 10.1 part, because that is all that is comparable. Anything more including punishment and the subsequent firing of Pearl is reaching.
