How many years before IU competes in BIg Ten?

  • thavoice
So.....hoosier fans....how long? And how much longer will Crean get to turn it around.

IU used to be my team I followed the most in any sport.....and when BK was fired it slowly waned. I still am an IU fan...my heart is still there but I have not followed them nearly as much/

    So..how long?

If Crean can get guys to not leave Indiana for Ohio St I say a couple more years, but if he continues losing the best talent in Indiana to other team who knows.

I think he has already locked up the top instate talent for the next 3 years. Laley will be able to provide the specifics.

Missed on Teague and Dawson, but did get Cody Zeller.

Not sure it's nearly enough to make IU much more competitive next year. Better than this year, but not enough to contend.
  • Tiger2003
I know they got Zeller coming in next year.

Hanner Perea 2012.....Perea is a 6'8 Foward #10 overall player
Kevin Ferrell 2012....Ferrell is a 5'11 Guard #17 overall player
Ron Patterson 2012....Patterson is 6'3 Guard #78 overall player
Peter Jurkin 2012....Jurkin is 6'11 Center, #137 overall player

Perea and Ferrell are both 5 Stars on Rivals and Patterson is 4 star and Jurkin is a 3 Star out of Charlotte NC.

Yogi Ferrell and Ron Patterson are both highly rated guards who will come in with Perea. Like I said, Lalely will be able to give a better overall breakdown.
  • Tiger2003
Jeremy Hollowell is also a possibility for Indiana in 2012. He is a 6'6 Small Forward who is high on Ohio State and Indiana.
  • Tiger2003
I know they got Zeller coming in next year along with Austin Etherington.

    Rivals Rankings
    2012 :
    PF - Hanner Perea (#10)
C - Peter Jurkin (137, was around 100 before shin injury kept him out all season. Not Indiana, though came from A-Hope which is based in Bloomington)
PG - Kevin "Yogi" Ferrell (17, and I bet he ends in top 10)
SG - Ron "Buss" Patterson (78, and I suspect will also jump to closer to 50)
POSSIBLE: SG - Gary Harris (25, though I think he is best in state, by far) down to MSU, IU and ND
POSSIBLE: Wing - Jeremy Hollowell ( 39 down to OSU, IU, and Purdue) Making decision before AAU ball starts.

    2013:
Wing - Colin Hartman (top 50)
Wing - Devin Davis (top 50)
---Neither are ranked in top 15 of Rivals, which is all they have out. Expected to both be top 50.

    2014:
PF - Trey Lyles (#1, already 6-9 as Frosh)
PG - James Blackmon Jr (son of Kentucky player James Blackmon, should be a top 15 recruit)
POSSIBLE: Jaquan Lyle (Has openly called IU players his team, and future recruits his future teammates, strong IU lean who could commit soon). Not ranked yet, because they only go 10 deep, but Indiana people think he could be better than Trey Lyles.
POSSIBLE - Wing - Trevon Bluiette (Teammate of Yogi Ferrell)

Laley where you think Hollowell will end up?
  • Laley23
As for the coming year, for some reason all the analysts keep saying its the big class recruiting wise, which isnt true, that is 2012. BUT, they should still be much better. Zeller will fill the biggest hole for this team, post presence on offense and defense. I expect an NIT berth at the very least. Finally wont be going to away games with freshman and sophomores leading the charge.

I dont expect the world of Zeller, but 12 and 6 would be a HUGE bonus for this team.

For future recruiting, they are pretty much set, except for still going after/making room for Gary Harris and Jeremy Hollowell. They have the top talent locked up (granted you cant get EVERYONE) for the next 3 years, and Id expect it to continue if wins start to amount.

Crean wont be fired before the 2014 class is signed, imo, and I think it will be a moot point because they will win by that point anyway.

I honestly think Indiana. A lot of signs have pointed that way for a few months now, and he is such good friends with Patterson, Yogi and Etherington (2011 recruit). We should know soon enough. Not the end of the world though, if IU is able to get Gary Harris instead or even better along with. I think that kid could be a 1 and done. He is SPECIAL!

Does he play on the Indiana Elite AAU team?

Nah, Eric Gordon All Stars. At least last year, Im not sure about this upcoming season. A few of the Indiana HS players have been shifting around because Eric Gordons team(s) are just starting up (in their 2nd year I think) and some other coaches have been moving around.

Report on twitter today that Hollowell picked IU
  • Laley23
He picked Indiana over Ohio St and Cinci.

good article from former Scout lead man, not ESPN recruiting lead man, Dave Telep.

Well rounded class for IU (all 5 positions covered), full of all in staters and top 100 players. All thats left is Gary Harris to make the move...
  • SportsAndLady
IU is definitely in a good position for the future. Crean will have them competing for national championships in a few years.

Indiana being good in basketball and OSU dominating the world both academically and athletically has no correlation.

I used to think Crean was a really good coach, however I am starting to question that. With this class coming in, this might be his last year to turn it around, or they will give Brad Stevens absolutely anything he wants.

Brother and i was talking last night......are there any recruits that butler gets that IU sought after? It is easy to say now after ya see some play on some players we would like to see on IU, but in the recruiting process is there guys choosing butler over IU in whih IU was really interested in?

Matt Howard had offers from IU, Purdue, Notre Dame, and MSU I believe. But he wanted the smaller school and choose Butler.
