And Matta is arguably top 5 in the nation.

Unless you're arguing JUST for this year
Good point. Matta is the second best coach in the Big Ten.

Now, if you do it all with FR people will take note, but your not going to get credit for landing those FR in COY voting, just coaching them.

Oh, so winning the Big 10 championship by 2 games with 3 freshman in your 7 man rotation isn't good? They are the number 1 team in the nation. Purdue has what? 6 losses? And they lost to Iowa?

    LOL

Apparently not good enough for coach of the year. I don't really know how much better of an effort you expected from Matta.

I didnt expect much better. I expected a lot worse from Purdue, thats what Im going off of. I thought OSU would be 26-5 and a #2 seed. So they are 3 wins better and a #1 seed.

I expected Purdue to be (after Hummel went down) 20-11ish. and around an 8 seed. They completely surpassed what I expected out of them. I didnt think Moore and Johnson would be enough to carry them to anything above a 5th place finish in the B10.

I just think the criteria for COY is stupid. Look at football, Tressel has won 6 straight Big 10 titles and basically carried the conference in all aspects and still has yet to win COY because he's "expected" to be good.

    What a freakin' joke.

Really? I mean they made the sweet 16 without him last year. They learned to play without him last year after struggling initially. And again, they have two studs in the lineup to lean on in probably 1st team all american Johnson long with Moore. Who I happen to think is one of the better players in the country as well. When you have two guys that good, you can surround them with some avg players and still be pretty darn good. I'll admit they ended better than I thought. But I didn't expect them to have 10+ losses either.

I realize they still had 2 great players. I just expect Big Ten teams to be able to shut one of them down a bit more in a given game. I was thinking Id see a few more Iowa games, and a few less OSU games. But as it turns out, they really only had 2 bad games in conference all year. I just was expecting more Ls. The Big Ten was way down compared to what I was expecting as well.
