Notre Dame "unlikely" to accept bowl invitation

  • ts1227
    How is it not arrogance?

They believe they are "too good" to have to go to Michigan or Alabama to play a MAC school. They chose to pout and try to save face, because if they pulled Central Michigan they have a damn good shot of losing and going 6-7. If it's not money (and it's not) what else is it?

I'm not even an OSU fan trying to knock them down a peg, and I still feel that way.

Haha... claiming this is about money is a big joke. Seriously... when they keep firing coaches before their massive contracts are up you know money isn't really an issue. All we always here is how much money ND has and it is never an issue.

Sad move on ND's part. Arrogance and cowardice are the motives that seem the most likely. Arrogance that they think they are above it; cowardice that they are affraid of what might happen if they lose.

amazing notre dame is bashed for not wanting to play in a bowl game with a .500 record.

if you are 6-6 you dont deserve a bowl game in the first game...

i would hope most 6-6 teams would turn down a bowl.

and this year without a coach, it seems especially meaningless....
  • ts1227
Most 6-6 teams would take whatever they can get, and probably be flattered they were invited because they don't really deserve it.

Bowls want ND even at 6-6 because their fanbase means tickets sold and money in the bank. ND told them to fuck off and that they are too good for them. Arrogance and cowardice.

I'm just going to comment on the practice time thing. How many of you have played a full college football season? I have, and it was only d3, and my body gets WORN OUT to the point where it's burnt out. If the only reason to go to this bowl game is to get extra "practice" then there's no reason to do it. Give the guys 2 weeks off and let their bodies heal.

However, I'm betting the kids want to play the game. It's the people at the top preventing it. At least I would hope they want to give it one more game. You only get so many.

The players voted on whether to play in a bowl or not. It was ultimately Swarbrick's decision but he said he would take the players vote into consideration. Of course I would like to see them play again this year, but I understand why they aren't.

That's horseshit. My team SUCKED. But I would give my left arm to play another game and I still have 2 more years. You'll live close to 75 years and you'll only get to play a small number of football games. They don't have the heart I would expect...

Makes you wonder where their confidence level is after the Weis crap going on and the consecutive losses.

ESPN made mention that whoever takes over really needs to try hard to get Clausen and Tate back, but personally, I think that both Clausen and Tate are gone for the NFL. ND simply isn't going to be a competing team next year, and with the CBA issue with the NFL, there will be more underclassmen darting for the NFL.

Do you even know what a football looks like? Buy a clue.

Read again. THE PLAYERS voted not to go. How is that being a coward?
Walk up to Te'o, and call him a coward to his face.

    I thought so...

By not playing in a bowl you are telling everyone "WE ARENT ANY GOOD AND HAVE NO CHANCE OF BEATING ANYONE"
BAMF my ass. Man up? You don't even know what that means. They have interim coach you stain. Ianello is his name. The decision was not up to him.

The later it gets, the dumber you get.

If ND is horrible, and will never be great again, why do you spend all day on Irish threads? You pussy.
  • ts1227
Holy shit crusader, are you the ND AD or something?
  • crusader1980
    ts,

No. I'm just sick of dorks who could not see a football if it were planted in their face. This dork is troll. He has nothing to offer but bullcrap remarks. He should go back to JJ where he was hated as well. I bet when he sleeps his dog plots to kill him.

pretty sad these kids would rather quit after losing 4 straight than play in a bowl game, have a good time for a week, and maybe send the seniors out as winners.

This is why Notre Dame sucks.

Pure arrogance based on what they HAVE been instead of putting in the hard work needed to actually be relevant again.

My senior year I would have given ANYTHING to play another game, there is no way you can tell me those seniors voted NOT to play. Actually it wouldn't surprise me because that team has no moxy or leadership.
  • 2kool4skool
I actually didn't see the big deal in this when I thought it was just the admin's decision. But if it's true that the players voted against playing in a bowl game, that would be a huge red flag for me. Stoops may need to do some serious house cleaning when/if he comes to South Bend.

Notre Dame players choosing to take their ball and go home.

Completely arrogant and ridiculous, no matter how ND fans try to spin it. If OSU ever did this I would be appalled.
  • Cmhs74
Wonder how many seniors when the walked off the field agains Stanford knew it was going to be their last game? Did they feel they could at least save face in a bowl game? Now they will never know. Some have now finished their careers, and some people will consider them quiters. How will the boosters and alum take this decision? Will be some interesting posts.

To be honest, UCLA deserves that last bid more than ND. Absolutely classless to reject a bowl bid because you think you are above it when ND should be thrilled to even get a bowl bid finishing with 4 straight losses.
  • Hesston
they should go to a bowl, it would give them 3 more weeks of practice time plus a game. ND cant seem to get out of their own way sometimes.
  • queencitybuckeye
At the risk of being accused of bashing, which is not my intent, I would have a problem with the players of a team I followed voting not to play, regardless of reason.
  • rocket31
so let me see if i understand this.

~last year when notre dame was 6-6 they accepted a bowl bid and was consequently labeled arrogant, elitist, and told that some other team deserved it over them.

~this year when notre dame is 6-6, they decline a bowl bid and are consequently labeled arrogant, elitist, cowardly, and told they should want to play in the game no matter circumstances.

what is the famous euphemism i am looking for... "damned if you do, damned if you dont" --

... i believe that is applicable here :)
