Ohio State @ Wisconsin (2/12)

  • Big Gain
If Ohio State played the exact same game they would beat Wisconsin at any other venue in the country every time. The Kohl Center is the ONLY place in the world Wisconsin can chuck up 50% of their shots as 3-pointers and make half of them. It was desperation time for Wisconsin. They try that in the NCAA tournament they're an early out.

Ohio State held down 2 of their 3 stars. It wasn't really Taylor that won the game. It was a couple of nobodies named Bruesewitz and Gasser. They were a combined 8 of 10 from the field and 5 of 5 on 3-pointers. They've respectively .412% and .263% 3-point shooters. They've never done that in the past and they won't do it again this year and likely will never do it again in their careers.

You guys were giving me shit because I said KU would beat UT in normal circumstances, then you say "the only reason OSU lost was because Wisconsin hit 12 3 pointers and taht won't happen anywhere else" and I'm the idiot? Oh and LOL @ Wisconsin hitting 12 at Northwestern.

I said they won't hit 12 three pointers at the Schott, I could care less what they do at Northwestern. OSU hasn't given up more than 8 threes at home all season. Likewise, they haven't scored less than 5 threes themselves at home all season (compared to the 3 they scored in Madison). I know the concept of bringing up numbers to back up an argument must be new for you.

No one was talking to you. It was directed at big gain who said Wisky won't hit 12 3's anywhere but at home.

Ok, well that's unfortunate for him for assuming that...but the main point still stands. I just don't see Ohio State losing to Wisconsin on March 6th (barring injury) with everything taken into account.

No one is saying OSU will lose to Wisconsin, jesus christ are some people incapable of having a god damn basketball conversation?

I have been trying to pinpoint the last couple days where did Ohio State go wrong in this game. And to me was when David Lighty picked up the double foul and he went to the bench after that. As I said on this same thread during the game, Lighty is the Kevin Garnett of the Ohio State defenses. Every year the Celtics arguably has the best defense in the NBA because Garnett anchor it and other players feed off of it. Lighty has the same kind of impact. The minute he went out, they defense totally collapse. By the the time he entered the game again, Wisconsin already had all the momentum. If you remember, the same argument was made about Lighty last season in the loss against Tennessee. He was in foul trouble throughout the game and many believe if he wasn't, Ohio State wins that game. It makes you wonder if people realize how valuable he really is to the Buckeyes.

I agree that it was a turning point, because that's when Wisconsin went on their run.

One other adjustment I wish Matta would have made would have been to put Lighty on Taylor. Taylor was obviously very comfortable with Craft guarding him, and when a guy gets in that comfort zone, you have to switch things up to make him adjust.

Who was guarding Taylor was irrelevant. They started screening his guy, even sending two guys to screen for him so he could get off his shots, and he was hitting everything. They needed to start trapping the pick and make him pass it to someone else.

Great point. Ryan made halftime adjustment and as you stated, they did a lot of ball screens. The problem with trapping a team like Wisky..is that they are all good 3pt shooters. Its pick your poison. I tend to think taht Craft and whomever guarded Taylor just didn't do a good job of fighting through screens or getting quick help/show from the guy who was guarding the screener. Sullinger was often lagging back too far and wasn't aggressive enough stepping out in show/help until Craft could recover. Easier said than done with a player like Taylor though.

Good point on the halftime adjustments. There were several occasions where Ohio State looked confused on how they were guarding the pick and roll. Credit Wisky and Ryan for taking advantage of that opportunity.

No not really since you completely ignored my previous post (not surprising). I said that I don't care what Wisky did at NW because it's irrelevant. Wisky made 12 threes in the last game and OSU made 3. Numbers would suggest that won't be the case in Columbus since OSU has not made less than 5, and not given up more than 8 at home all season. It doesn't matter where else Wisky shoots 12 threes because they won't do it in Columbus.

I don't care either, and neither does anyone else I'm sure...but when someone says they wouldn't do it anywhere other than at home, we're going to point out they have done it elsewhere.
