Will Miles stay at LSU? And if he goes, who will replace him?
-
cats gone wild???
Also, if Miles turns down Michigan job, who will be next in line?
Would Miles turn the UM program around and how many years?
Personally, I think he would be dumb to take the job considering Mich is bad and LSU is a top 10 team who is young and has the #4 ranked recruiting class for this year already. -
OneBuckeyeI think he will take the job at Michigan. Just because it is his "dream" job and if he turns things around he could become a michigan legend IMO. LSU media and fans seem half frustrated with him (for good reason) all the time, so if he screws up one season at LSU he could be out.
I have no clue who would replace him, but I would go after Patterson Peterson and Mullen if I were LSU. After that who knows. -
OneBuckeyeOh yeah Bo Pelini will get a look i'm sure too.
-
thedynasty1998For whatever reason, I don't think LSU fans are real high on Miles. I recall this year rumblings that if he didn't have a great year he would be on the hot seat. I don't think he's an elite coach, but I do think he would find enough success at Michigan to at least get them back to respectability.
-
j_crazyLSU fans aren't high on him, but IMO they'd be retarded to push him out.
-
mucalum49I think he'd be the spark that The Rivalry would need to get it rejuvenated. Not sure if he'd go but if so my money would be on Bo Pelini going to LSU.

Agree with this statement above.
I don't think very high of him to be honest and wouldn't want him as coach of my fav. school. I think he can recruit. And I think LSU is absolutely loaded with talent. Except for the QB position, I am not sure there was a more talented team in the country. Obviously, that QB position is a key one though. The previous two years were not great for LSU though...had 4 losses last year, and 5 losses the previous year. This coming off his title year. So I think fans were a bit justified in criticizing him. Can you imagine OSU fans if Tressel had 4/5 losses back to back?
I agree with your statement about elite. I don't think he is terrible...but I don't consider him one of the elite coaches either. He has been VERY fortunate in some late game situation, even lucky (this year vs Tenn). But also lost some of those due to bone headed decisions or lack thereof. He has made himself look downright stupid at times.
Would certainly be an upgrade for Michigan. But it would take him a while to get things going.
As we all know, he has ties to UM, so maybe he makes the mvoe. i have also read he has tired of the criticism he has gotten at LSU. But I am not so sure there is more pressure there then there is going to be at UM. Who knows..... -
ptown_trojans_1I think Les stays, but that is only a guess.

OSU fans go crazy over any loss.
LSU has some great recent history (2 titles is very impressive IMHO) but they are a little up and down from year to year. I think Michigan should be a perennial contender, so I wouldn't blame Miles for trying to lead his alma mater back to prominence. But I also wouldn't blame him for staying with what is currently the better program, especially if he could leverage the UM job for more cash at LSU. -
j_crazyIf miles could figure out his woes at recruiting QB's and get a solid offensive SYSTEM in place (not just a gimmicky year or two type thing), they'd be a perennial top 5 team. hell without it they are a perennial top 15 team, lots of schools (michigan included, at this point) would be ecstatic with that.

centralbucksfanESPN reporting that Miles is interviewing with Michigan tomorrow...and IF offered the job, will take it.

Given Miles history, I will only believe it when it is official. -
gerb131Les Miles is a good coach and would be a great hire. If he can't get it done at M-town than I don't know who could. LSU would be in a pinch if he left and the next coach would be a step down from Miles. think dudes nuts but he is a top 10 CFB coach easy hell maybe even top 6.
-
Little DannyI think Miles will take the gig.
As far as replacements, I would think the Tigers would look at Louisville HC Charlie Strong, Auburn OC Gus Malzahn, Rich Rod (he coached at Tulane so he is not unfamilar with those parts), Phil Fulmer and Texas Tech HC Tommy Tubberville. -
darbypitcher22I think Miles will take it if he's offered the job tomorrow.
This immediately ratchets up The Game a notch once again.
by the way, JT and Les are 1-1 against each other.
JT got a 33-7 Alamo Bowl win over Le's Oklahoma State Cowboys in '04, and Les got a National Title w/ a 38-24 win in '07 -
ou1980Ever see Les Miles talk about the Ohio State-Michigan rivalry??? The look on his face and hate in his eyes tell he really, and I mean REALLY hates the buckeyes....
I said this back on JJ a few years back and Ill say it here. Miles is from Michigan, his family is still in Michigan, his wife from Michigan and her family still there. Had Kurt Herbstreit not blown the lid and made time for LSU to offer Miles a new conract, I think he would already be there... -

LOL...do you really believe because Herbie said what he said that Miles didn't take the UM job? Come on..thats a stretch. Why would what a reporter reports, affect a coaches decision? No way that had any affect whatsoever.
Other than that, I don't disagree with what your saying in terms of Miles knowing and understanding the UM/OSU rivaly.
That being said, this rivalary won't be jacked up until Mich can compete on the field, or win one sometime soon. And I don't see that happening for a couple years at the earliest. Two big of a gap in talent level right now. Going to take at least 2/3yrs to get recruiting/development to where they are able to compete with the big boys.
As I mentioned before, some are "fired" up about Miles and he is certainly a step up from RichRod. But he isn't a hire that knocks my shoes off or worries me as an OSU fan. -

Yeah, I do really....lol....Yeah its a stretch, but when Herbie announced 10:30AM that Les Miles was heading to Michigan, and at 12:30PM Les Miles announced he was staying, I think, gave LSU time to get to him and said, take it or leave it.... -
ou1980Btw, another conspiracy post here.....
IF Les Miles meets with Michigan tomorrow, and if a deal is reached and he accepts.......and on Wednesday he is announced as the new coach...
then....
Who does Michigan men's basketball play AT HOME wednesday night?????
THE OHIO STATE BUCKEYES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The only difference here is that Jim Tressel was left some semblance of talent by the outgoing coach. Les Miles unfortunately, due to transfers and just general lack of talent, will not be given that luxury. -

Miles is from Elyria, Ohio -
ou1980True. But I recall the pundits talking about his family AND his wifes families still being in Michigan.

ou1980Espn radio reporting now that LSU is working on a new contract to keep miles there.....hmmmm, haven't we seen this before??

Hahaha. I saw this coming.
Man, if this does occur, Miles can thank Michigan for all the pay raises.
