Too be honest, I don't believe this when any coach say this. Look at all of the coaches in football and basketball that have said this, then take another job a few weeks later. I compare the current situation(salary, facilities, etc.) and compare it whichever school is looking to hire a new coach.sherm03 wrote:

Whereas Bob Stoops and Urban Meyer are both at prestigious universities that have great facilities, easy recruiting situations, strong history, and can pay large salaries, Brian Kelly is in a vastly different situation. The facilities are not that great. I know they are building some new ones, but the stadium is small and the new facilities are not better than the top programs. Whether Cinci fans want to believe it or not, it does not have the prestige or history of a Notre Dame, USC, Texas, Ohio State etc. Although I sometimes don't understand why a coach wouldn't want to build a program and become the face of that program, coaches tend to leave strong programs they have built to go to a more prestigious program. Finally, a school like Notre Dame can pay a substantially larger salary than a school like Cincinnati.
I'm not saying that Kelly will go to Notre Dame at all, but when a coach says they are staying when there are a lot of reasons to leave, I become skeptical until a definitive decision is made. -
sherm03Trust me elbuckeye, as a Xavier fan that has gone through two coaching changes since I stepped foot on campus, I believe coaches as far as I can throw them.
My whole point for bringing it up is that in today's radio interview, Kelly gave a much stronger denial than he did in his press conference. And he said it in a way that allows UC fans to breathe a little sigh of relief, and has OU fans wondering why Stoops wasn't as adamant. -
Pescara71Seriously, would you rather take a chance and be the Joe Paterno of Cinncy? Or go to ND and not win and ruin your coaching credentials. I mean, it's possible, and I'm sure it's on his mind.
-
sherm03I think that as of yesterday, Kelly thought he may still be in play. That's why he danced around questions about ND and said he wouldn't talk about it until after the Pitt game.
Then he got word that Stoops is in, and in the interview today he had the opportunity to say he's not interested in leaving, he's happy, blah blah blah. Do you blame him? It makes him look better, like he's committed to UC...even though we all know that had an offer been made to him, he would have bolted faster than ccrunner does to shit on an ND thread. -

No you do not. As stated above, Ara Parseghian was not Catholic but scientology is an entire different story.jordo212000 wrote:
Do you have to be Catholic to coach at Notre Dame?rock_knutne wrote: Also, you're not hearing Boise St. HC Peterson mentioned as a candidate because he is rumored to be a scienctologist and that won't fly at ND. -

For all I care, the next HC could be Jewish. I agree that one's religion should not matter but an ultra private Catholic institution like ND and their order will not hire a scienctologist, you can take that to the bank. -
jordo212000
Yeah never heard anything about Petersen being a scientologist but did some research and plenty of places accuse him of being one.rock_knutne wrote:

I guess I can understand Notre Dame not wanting that because they are after all a Catholic school. But once again, I haven't heard any Boise players complaining about Petersen trying to convert them. And I still would have to say that I wouldn't factor a man's religion (or whatever you say scientology is) into a decision like this. -
LJIt's all simple you fools!!!
Stoops is going to Notre Dame
Kelly is waiting for Stoops to take that job, then he is going to throw his hat in the Oklahoma job. -

Lovejoy1984Kelly would be a perfect fit in the Big 12.
All Offense, and no Defense. -
goosebumpsHe won't go to Oklahoma lol. Quit starting rumors. You really need to get it out of your head that UC is this terrible place to be.

And Oklahoma >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> UC -
goosebumpsOklahoma definitely has more tradition.... I'll wait and see how much money UC throws at Kelly at the end of this year before I decide where I'd rather coach.

Oklahoma
Texas
USC
Alabama
OSU
Michigan
These are the Big Boys. One of these schools is every coaches dream job, you can throw in Notre Dame if you are just talking about Dream Jobs though. -
goosebumpsThats why Meyer went to ND right?
Les Miles to Michigan?
Not every coach dreams of going to these schools, and he soon you get it out of your head the better. Dynamics of the college football world are changing. Maybe Kelly really wants to build a program from he bottom up... like Jo Pa and B. Bowden. -

kelly has....cincy???
there is no comparison. -

Exactly. Those aren't the very top schools like I listed when it comes to prestige, but that is like saying that like Me going to Georgetown law that I would leave halfway through to go to Harvard vs someone going to Capital would leave halfway through to go to Harvard. No comparison.rocket31 wrote:

I agree, it should not play a part in any decision but once again, we're talking about Notre Dame, an old Catholic institution.jordo212000 wrote:

As for Peterson, you're correct, it's just a rumor that he's a scientologist but I think that's enough for ND to not even consider him. Maybe they should do a background check, you know just like the one they failed to do with O'Leary. -
LJ
And there is nothing wrong with them doing that. They are a private institution and can do whatever they want. I think people forget that they are private.rock_knutne wrote:

Joe pa did not build Penn state from the bottom up he followed rip engle who coached PSU for 16 years.
Kelly has done great at cincy but few give dantonio any credit for getting the ball rolling -
Little Danny
In my opinion Ohio State fans overrate the impact Dantonio had on the program. Even up to this past summer I had guys here in Columbus comment what a savior Dantonio was to UC and question whether Kelly was riding Dantonio's coattails. I think a lot of it just due to the fact Dantonio coached defense at OSU and is now the head coach of MSU.gobucks wrote: Goosebumps

Dantonio did get the ball rolling in the sense he got some talent that would never would considered UC before (from the Columbus area and Clevealnd) but that is about it. Consider, Dantonio was 18-17 during his tenure in Clifton. However, it should be noted UC has had talent prior to Dantonio's regime, it just never had depth of talent (multiple future NFL players such as Brad Jackson, Jason Fabini, Dyjuan Hagler) However, Dantonio never maximized his depth of talent. Kelly took Dantonio's talent and converted most of the players to different positions (ie. Connor Barwin from TE to DE, Gilyard from DB to WR, Jacob Ramsey from LB to RB) The interest in the program from the student body, the alumni and fanbase during Dantonio's reign remained pretty consistent with the Rick Minter years that preceeded it (meaning not very much).
