  Again, what would have been the sentiment if Herron broke the initial tackle was able to get around the corner and then ran for a 99 yard TD or whatever

  It would have a been a TD as a result of an official not blowing the play dead when forward progress was stopped.

  What about the play when they called OSU for a false start when there were 1 or 2 arky players in the neutral zone? That was a unreal call

  IMO, if he were to of broken free, they would've whistled the play dead stating that his forward progress was stopped at the 2 yard line

  IMKO, I believe that the incorrect call was made. Two reasons:
  1) Who put the runner in the endzone? The defenders, the progress was the 2-yard line.
  2) The reverse angle replay showed the Line Judge clearly comes onto the field at the 2-yard line with his hand raised (which is the same as a whistle for those of you fans who don’t understand the rules of the game) to start the play clock. He felt forward progress had been established and signalled it. He should have stepped up and saved the crew.

  The ball should have been placed at the 2 yard line, you can't push a ball carrier backwards for 5 yards, tackle him and get a safety, the play was over when he not by his own effort was shoved backwards (forward progress stopped) I knew when they huddled that they would call it a safety, bad call.

  Great point. All the clowns on here saying he "broke the tackle" are acting like he ran into the end zone himself to get away from a defender.

  I think it's funny that people are saying the officials were terrible because of XYZ. I don't think people realize that the Big 10 has some strict, old school, officiating. Look at the KSU-SU game. Only a Big 10 official would call that a penalty(maybe a PAC 10). A lot of other conferences let things go and are looser in their officiating than what we are used to. It's not that they are bad, they are just different. I wonder if it's possible to have a mixed crew between the 2 conferences playing.

  I thought on the kickoff when Jordan Hall was tackled at the 17 but pushed back to the 1 I thought they were going to spot the ball at the 1. It would have only made sense since the safety was a joke. But how did Boom shake Leon on that?? That was beastly.

  Kahuna i dont think those plays are close at all mcknight sidestepped a defender he didnt get pushed back 3-5 yards

  Forward progress was stopped. That seems to be the only criteria.

  In that play, McKnight's original progress was stopped at the 0:10 mark, but he starts moving forward again at the 0:12 mark, which means his forward progress on the play wasn't stopped at the 0:10 mark.

  Yeah he started moving forward after losing a couple of yards. Did he get back to where his initial forward progress stopped and where was he finally ruled down?

  It doesn't matter. If you start moving forward again, logically it means that your forward progress wasn't originally stopped, just delayed, even if you don't gain back the yardage you lost.

  Of course it was the wrong call, but that's more justification than is required even for the the most ardent of haters. Haters is over used of course, but there is no other way to describe someone who believes this to be anything other than the WRONG call...stupid.
