  This is a difficult question - which is a good thing. Last year the answer was easy. This year is a complete team in which all are dependent on one another and function well together. So I will decline to answer this and vote for a tie among all five. That is waht makes this OSU team special. Not fence riding, just an opinion.

  The most important player for this team's success is David Lighty.
  The season injury that would have the most impact is Jared Sullinger.

  Can't believe some of the comments and that it's even worth discussing. It's Jared Sullinger. He is the most talented, the most valuable and most important. It's not even close.
  
  Really not sure how anyone could say otherwise, or even consider for a second someone else.

  That doesn't make any sense to me. If the injury of one player is of greater impact than any other player, then that player is the most important player to be on the floor. So maybe its "nice" to say Lighty is but you are saying "Sullinger" is beacause we NEED him to be healthy more.

  Lighty's senior leadership can't be matched. He is the leader of this team.
  
  Now to injuries - If Lighty is hurt (2nd part of the question), Craft easily steps in to start. If Sullinger is hurt, who the hell comes in his place and puts up 20/10?

  So Lighty is MORE important to be on the floor but LESS important to get injured? Sullinger is Less important to be on the floor but More important to get injured?

  If you have to ask this question you just don't know very much about how a basketball offense works. Without Sullinger inside everyone is a little worse. He opens up the floor for the guards to shoot from the perimeter. If he is gone rebounding takes a catastrophic decline.

  Without Diebler on the floor, the game gets exponentially tougher for Sully, Buford, and Lighty. The defense will collapse on Sully, and congest the driving lanes for Lighty and Buford, forcing them to take outside shots, which is not the strong part of their game. Also, Diebler is the 2nd leading scorer on the team, and is always looking to get Sully the ball on the block. In the scheme of the OSU team, Diebler is very important.

  Most important player to OSU's success would have to be Sully, followed by Lighty, IMO. If you think about it though, this team can't really afford to lose anyone for any extended period of time. Especially Sully or Lauderdale, considering they're basically the only two big men we have.

  With whom? No one on the team has the 3 ball threat like he does which is why he's so important. Is anyone going to be out there that provides half the threat he does? No.

  I think people fall in love with the 3 ball to much. I mean yeah Diebler is our best 3 point shooter, but it's not like we'll never make another 3 pointer without him. Lighty, Buford, and Craft can still shoot. Maybe not as well as Diebler, but they'll hit a few.

  It isn't that we'd have no threat, it's that there wouldn't be near the threat or need to defend as much.

  I look at it this way:
  Sully brings an inside presence on both offense and defense.
  Lauderdale brings defense, rebounding, and shot blocking.
  Lighty is probably one of the teams best defenders, the leader of the team, and can play multiple positions.
  Buford can play multiple positions and is one of few who can create his own shot.
  Craft is a natural PG who brings good defense, rebounding, passing, and a decent outside shot.
  Diebler is the teams best 3 point shooter.
  
  I'm not saying those are that's the order i'd have it in in terms of most important to least important, but out of those players, Diebler brings one thing to the table, while the others do multiple things well. Just my opinion.

  You under value what Diebler brings, you think he ONLY shoots the 3, but fail to understand by doing so how it improves the effectiveness/opportunities of everyone else, that's the point imo.

  Diebler also brings leadership, passing, and steady defense.
  
  Tell me what you think would happen in a game against a good team if Diebler is out. Do you think the outside shooting of Buford and Lighty could get OSU a win?? Sully would be takin' out w/ a double team, and there would be no driving lanes for Lighty and Buford to get to the hoop.

  I understand that it helps by not allowing teams to double team on Sully. We would still have Craft, Lighty, and Buford out there, so if teams double Sully, we'd still have guys capable of knocking down the three ball. Not to mention, if Sully does get doubled, it's going to leave those guys open, and they can either shoot the three ball, or use a move and attack the rim, thus either finishing, getting fouled, or dishing it to Sully. If you go out on those guys, you've got to worry about the 3 ball and the drive, which isn't the case with Diebler.
