The front runner for sports moron of the year is the Arkansas defensive player who fell on the punt instead of advancing it and putting them in position to win the game.

QFT. I think you have a better persona with Red Saul. That username is not so much of a jackass.

I feel great about the win. I know a lot of OSU fans who are very happy today!

Not sure what people thought Tressel should do, in this situation. Sort of a damned if he does, damned if he doesn't situation. OSU beats Arky and they get ripped by some over silly integrity issues surrounding the sale of personal items (I can think of far worse things these kids could have done). If they had lost, I'm sure the same naysayers would come out condemning OSU for going ofer, once again, versus the SEC in a bowl game.

The NCAA handed their suspensions down. There is no guarantee, as far as I'm aware of, that the NCCA would have reduced their suspensions, had Tressel suspended them for the Sugar Bowl. Tressel told them they had to return and serve their suspensions, next season, in order to travel to New Orleans. The seniors voted to allow them to play as well. The five gave their word and that's good enough for me.

    And screw Mark May!!!!

Arkansas dropped at least 1 INT and had two players whiff on Pryor's fumble that resulted in the first TD. I'd agree with cbf that it pretty much all evened out over the course of the game.

    Duane Long's Take
Sugar Bowl Review Written by Duane Long | 05 January 2011

I am still savoring this one. It will take a great finish in recruiting to take my mind off of this win. It is one for the ages in my book. The team goes in distracted with Tattoogate. Early on the Buckeyes lose an All-American and future NFL corner in Chimdi Chekwa against a likely first round quarterback. We then see the secondary take another hit as Chekwas replacement, Travis Howard, gets knocked out of the game too. I did not see the Buckeyes winning the game with Dominic Clarke at one corner but the defensive line made sure he did not get tested too much. This was a good Arkansas team. Make no mistake about that. The Buckeyes did not just beat another SEC team. They beat an SEC team that only lost to the defending national champion in Alabama and an undefeated Auburn team that will be playing for the national championship this year. The Buckeyes beat a good SEC team.

I know there are alot of fans out there that got a few more gray hairs watching the offense shut it down in the second half. Pryor threw 19 passes in the first half. 6 in the second. That is the Jim Tressel way. It always has been and always will be. He had an 18 point half time lead. You knew he was going to shut it down. He is not going to lose the game. He is going to make the other team win the game. He is going to make them take the chances. At that point he was in a battle with the clock not with Arkansas.

I have a major dispute with the game MVP award. Pryor had a great first half. Cam Heyward had a great game. Talk about going out on a high note. I think it was the best performance of his career. The defensive line in general was the difference in the game. This Arkansas team led the SEC in tackles for loss. The Buckeye defensive line was better. Simon was outstanding. Nate Williams had his best game since midseason. Larimore goes out with his best game in some time. The defensive line won this game for Ohio State with constant consistent pressure.

I thought Jermale Hines had a lot to do with how the secondary held together in the most trying of circumstances. I thought the young guys really stepped up. Travis Howard was beaten for a touchdown and another long gain. If he plays defense like that the rest of his career he will be an NFL player. Those were perfectly thrown passes that no corner was going to do anything about.

I am most proud of Jim Heacock. Ever since the USC loss he seems to be a changed man. He is getting after it. He attacks and attacks. Just when you think he can't find another way to attack he throws a zone blitz at them that Mallett had not seen all day and secures an interception to ice the game. Did you notice Cam Heyward was standing right beside Sol Thomas when he made the interception. Heacock deserves a game ball for the defensive game plan.

I know many were thinking about incoming freshmen replacing Cam Heyward or Melvin Fellows returning to health and stepping into that role. Adam Bellamy is a force to be reckoned with. He played very well last night. I see him as the starter at SSDE.

I noticed Garrett Goebel in there before I saw Hankins. When I did see Hankins I saw why. I saw too much of him. He looks like he enjoyed the Holiday season too much. Weight was always an issue. The talent level is too great here for him to let himself get out of shape. Goebel has always been solid. It was the talent level of an in shape Hankins that push him to the bench. Hankins has to return in good condition.

I cannot believe how bad J.B. Shugarts was last night. He was beaten all night consistently. On one series in the third quarter when momentum was definitely turning in Arkansas favor, Pryor escapes and picks up a first down on third and long. Shugarts held so it was called back. The very next play he gets beat again and Pryor has to throw the ball away. That was just one series where his inability to get the job done had an impact on the game. Who knows what impact the inability of Shugarts to block his man had on play calling. Pryor is clearly more comfortable going to his right. With a pass rusher winning that battle more often than not it could have changed the way the game was called. My dream scenario is Norwell moves to left tacklenext year. I don't know how we can make that happen with Shugarts so suspect on the right side. I don't want to hear about his ankle/foot injury. He had 5 weeks to nurse the injury. It is not better yet? He had a motion penalty. I know that is not a surprise.

There was a great deal of talk about whether the "5" should play in this game. Look at their performances. Think we would have won this game without them?

Yeah they evened out. The thing about their dropped interception compared to ours is that their's was a deep pass that was followed by a short punt the next play. Unless they got a great return it wouldn't have really changed much in the game. We dropped one on the field goal drive at the end of the half and another on a field goal drive in the 3rd quarter. Those would have directly affected the score. Either way, it's part of the game and some players make those plays and some don't.

I also seemed to remember the countless times Heyward was abusing the Ark O line and if he didn't get penetration he was held, even noted by the announcers. The miscues went both ways and evened out, in the end the ball bounced OSU's way and they made the plays Ark couldn't.

You are such a joke, dude. So you're in contact with all of the college football world? You have a firm finger on the pulse of how much of the college football world feels about this?

They were eligible for the game. ELIGIBLE...just like Ryan Mallet, Dane Sanzenbacher, DJ Williams, Brian Rolle, etc.

Arkansas begged and pleaded to have these 5 play in the game. They wanted us at full strength. So I know they aren't crying about them playing or saying they have no respect for Tressel.

I just can't get over how much I loved the D-Line play last night. Heyward, Simon, and Larimore were always penetrating the middle. Heyward reminded me of Suh vs Texas last year.

Nathan Williams didn't fill the stat sheet but he certainly had a hand in many great plays. For the first time in his career at OSU, they let Williams play some LB. When he was playing LB, he was all over the line of scrimmage. Running around and coming from so many different places before the snap. He also dropped back into pass coverage quite a bit. I felt like Arkansas had a tough time dealing with that little wrinkle that Heacock threw in by using Williams in that manner.

Solomon Thomas was obviously johnny on the spot on the INT. But he actually did play a lot through out the game and did a nice job getting pressure off the edge. Definitely a big surprise as we hadn't heard much of him all year.

I absolutely loved how OSU showcased their depth on the D-Line. Constantly rotating guys in. Heyward, Simon, Larimore, Williams, Thomas, Newsome, Bellamy, Goebel, and Hankins

Well if you want to talk about directly affecting the score, Arkansas dropped 2 (ESPN said the same WR dropped 3 but I only recall 2) touchdowns and it led to them not scoring on those drives. First play of the game and the one along the back of the endzone where it looked like the pass was intended for Williams. We are obviously playing the what if game but if you are going to have to mention the dropped INTs leading to 6 points, might as well mention the 14 (and possibly 21 if anyone else remembers the 3rd dropped TD) points that Arkansas left of on turf. I still say each team made mistakes and its too difficult to say who benefited more.

CAN WE PLEASE SHUT THE HELL UP ABOUT THE "IFS" ITS PART OF THE DAMN GAME!! IF OUR DEFENSE DIDNT SUCK AGAINST WISCONSIN WE MIGHT BE PLAYING FOR A CHAMPIONSHIP ON THE 10TH!!

I wasn't trying to play the what if game. I was just responding to your post about them dropping an interception. I just wanted to point out that we dropped two more costly interceptions. Obviously you missed the part of my post where I said that drops are part of the game and players either make the plays or they don't.

Nope didn't miss it. I have said numerous times already, both teams made mistakes and it was probably a wash as to who benefited more. Both teams benefited from mistakes from the opposition as well as from making plays on their own. Any way you look at it, OSU won the football game and it was big for them to do so given the history against the SEC and all of the stuff swirling around the program.

Happy OSU won, but can't be happy about the take no chances strategy in the second half. Threw half the passes in the second half as the first, forgot about our tight ends who had some great runs after receptions. Didn't roll out Pryors running ability until it was 3rd and ten or more. Seemed like we decided on a let the defense win it and don't take any chances. Its a strategy that works if you're ahead, but it is hard to watch.
