Should the BIG EAST get an automatic BCS bid?

    I dont think so.
    A 7-5 team is going to a bcs bowl game (UCONN)
    Should be a very terrible game.

    I believe that UCONN is actually 8-4.

    That being said, most of us would agree that no, an 8-4 club doesn't deserve to play in a BCS game. But, a contract is a contract and a tie-in is a tie-in, and they won the right to represent their league

    Yes, they should.

    If their automatic qualifier finishes in the top 15 of the BCS rankings. If not, they should be considered in the same field as the at-larges. The same goes for the ACC, Big Ten, Big XII, Pac 10, and SEC.

    $10 says an SEC team plays against them, beats them(I mean who wouldn't?) and then tries to use that win as proof that the SEC is the best conference(its not).

    The Big East is bad. It makes me a little upset that TCU bailed them out, but I guess I understand. They will get more exposure in other sports than what they would get playing in the Mtn West.

    Just think of how good the Mountain West would have been if everybody stayed

    We'll see how long this bail-out lasts...my spidey sense tells me the football teams that have strong basketball programs (i.e. 'Cuse and UConn) might be negotiating with the ACC. This could be a short-term band-aid.

    Is there really any argument other than them being the best if Auburn wins it this year? 5 titles in a row by 4 different teams, what other league right now can come even close to that? I am not an SEC fanboy by any means, but I just don't see how it would be possible to argue anything other than them being the best if Auburn pulls this off.

    Seems like a lateral move at this point to me. Big East basketball trumps ACC basketball, and with TCU the conference won't be losing their AQ status. They have no reason to leave

    I was thinking about this the other day. What made the Big East get an automatic bid in the first place?

    If the old SWC DIDN'T disband and join with the Big 8, would the Big East have been considered a Big 6? Just something to think about I guess.

    The BE needs UConn and Cuse to trump the ACC in basketball...the non-football programs (G'Town, Providence, St. John's, DePaul, etc.) can't bring in the requisite revenue, and the ACC still boasts a pretty attractive basketball slate - UNC, Duke, Murland, GT, Wake...add UConn and Cuse to that mix and that is a powerful basketball conference.

    How is TCU bailing them out? We don't really know how good TCU is, and I'm willing to wager a large amount of money they get embarassed by Wisconsin in the Rose Bowl.

    How is the Big East equal to the ACC in basketball? Duke and UNC alone trump anything the BE can offer IMO.

    I think the Big East got the auto bid because when the BCS was formed the Big East had Miami (FL), Va Tech and Boston College still. It was more respectable then. Now UConn, a team that was not even FBS a few years ago, is the conference representative in the BCS? Something needs to be changed in the current system.

    Wisconsin has the potential to be in for a rude awakening. Don't get me wrong I think they'll pound the living shit out of TCU's defensive interior, but Wisconsin's big win of the season is? Oh that's right, beating an Ohio State team that also hasn't been anyone. The true of the matter is we don't know how good anyone in the Big Ten is (and to a larger extent the country if you want to get crazy with that train of thought haha).

    I guess I'm just saying I wouldn't wager "a large amount of money" on fickle collegiate players, especially a team that really hasn't been tested away from Madison.

    Don't forget the current #3 basketball team in the country--Pitt. From what I hear they would leave the Big East in a heartbeat and were dying for that Big 10 invite although Dixon says he'd prefer to stay in the Big East.

    Are you really questioning whether Wisconsin has a "big win?" If they don't, then what team does?

    I think there should be a clause for the automatic bid conferences stating that if the conference winner has more than 2 losses, they do not qualify for a BCS bowl bid. This will make every game that much more important in my opinion. 3 losses or more just looks bad as far as going to the major bowl games.

    So the defending Rose Bowl champs who lost basically 3 starters and started the season ranked #2 and are still in the top 10 is no one?

    Add onto that their (Big Least) conference rep last year was undefeated and performed like a 4 loss team.
