Should the BIG EAST get an automatic BCS bid?
-
Classyposter58The Big East should be dropped from the BCS though, talent wise they don't compare to the other 5 conferences. I mean the truth is the Connecticut team was totally manhandled by the worst defense in the Big 10 and they lost to TEMPLE!!! AGAIN THEY WERE LOST BY 14 TO TEMPLE! The level of play in this conference is so inferior to the rest of the BCS ones that it should lose its status. I mean come on this conference is weaker than the MAC was when Miami, BG, UT, Marshall and Northern Illinois were all good

Hahahahahaha! Duke, Virginia and Wake Forest are the only teams in the ACC that would not win the Big East -

Huh? I guess you are going to point out that its possible for the two top teams to not play each other, but unless there's a specific example where that made it easier for a conference champ to go undefeated, this point doesn't really make sense. The Big East still only plays 7 conference games to the Big Ten's 8, though neither that fact nor your statement accounts at all for the level of competition that a team actually faces. -
Cleveland BuckLJ;588796 wrote:So you are fine with the fact that it is set up that an 8-4 team that is only ranked because they won their conference gets to play in a BCS bowl over say a LSU or Michigan State? There are majorly shitty rules in the BCS. No more than 2 teams per conference and no restriction on BCS ranking for AQ status. Conference champiom should have a minimum BCS ranking in order to get the AQ bid
Michigan State is going to play a better opponent in the Capital One Bowl than they would play if they were picked by the Orange Bowl to play Virginia Tech. It's not like they are being left out of the title game. I understand the argument, but I don't think it is a big deal, and it would go against the agreement put in place to create the BCS in the first place. -

You are forgetting the biggest thing.... payouts. The conference with a team that doesn't deserve to go is getting money that performance wise, another team and conference deserves. -

You're obviously try to troll with that comment, because no one in their right mind believes that 9 teams in the ACC would win the BE. -

I know, but why would the Big East and ACC participate in a system where they were going to get cut out of the money the years they are down? -

All 3 of those wins by a teams assembled by coaches who are no longer in the conference. Hell, the 3 coaches that got the last 5 teams to the BCS are no longer in the Big East. The BE in 2006 would whoop on every team in the 2010 BE. The conference is a shell of it's former self since RR and Petrino moved on. -

It took Rich Rod 3 seasons to win the BE
Petrino was coaching in conference USA for half of his tenure
Give the new set of coaches some time to get things in order, The BE will be back -

Yeah, because Miami , BC and VT were still in the conference his first 3 years.goosebumps;588976 wrote:It took Rich Rod 3 seasons to win the BE -

Thats a good point, I won't argue it. -

Here are some other numbers for you....
2006 undefeated--- Lose huge to a 1 loss SEC school
2007 one loss--- lose huge to a 2 loss SEC school
2008 2 losses--- lose a close one to Big 12
2009--- They looked good and beat a good Oregon team
So three years in a row the Big Ten champ lost their BCS bowl game.
Yeah, but you're overlooking the fact that they've also WON a lot of BCS bowl games. OSU is 4-3 in BCS games, with a NC and a Rose Bowl win in there and Wisconsin's won several BCS games. Add to the fact that teams the Big10 send to BCS games NEVER have anywhere close to 4 losses (two 1-loss teams this year), and the smackdown non-AQ schools have laid a few times on on BE teams (Pitt in particular) and it doesn't look good outside of the east coast. I'm not a BE hater like many on here, but it is what it is. The last team from the Big East I can remember winning a BCS game was by a team that isn't even in the conference anymore; Miami over Nebraska in January of 2002. I think WVU might have a win over Oklahoma in there (Orange/Sugar bowl maybe?) but other than that, big losses by Pitt and UC dominate most people's memory. Also, I wouldn't call a 14 point loss a "huge" loss to LSU. LSU took control in the second half and didn't let OSU back in so it wasn't like they were in danger of losing, but they also didn't blow Ohio State out by any stretch. -

WVU beat Georgia in the 06 Sugar Bowl
Louisville beat Wake Forest in the 07 Orange Bowl
WVU beat Oklahoma in the 08 Fiesta Bowl (actually destroyed them) -

LOL.
Moreso at Wake than Louisville. -
centralbucksfanWhat do years past have to do with this year? There is no question that the Big East is a complete joke this year. That cannot be denied. UConn to the Fiesta. The same UConn team that was manhandled by a 3-5 Big Ten team. (Michigan).

johngrizzlyInterested in seeing if Mich actually makes return trip to UCONN.

Because the BCS bid is not based on a year to year performance, but is in fact based on measures covering a several year period. I am not going to deny the Big East performed poorly against OOC BCS AQ opponents this season, however, over the past five years the Big East has performed as well as any other conference in this regard (except for the SEC). They have certainly performed better than the ACC to which nobody complaints about.
Oklahoma 31 UC 29. UConn 38 UC 17. I know, I know, the transitive property does not work in football. However, it is not totally out of the realm it could happen. UCONN is a very senior laden team, Oklahoma is very young. Oklahoma has crapped the bed in bowl games in the past. UCONN has a huge offensive line and a stud running back. Oklahoma has performed poorly outside of Norman this season.vball10set;589979 wrote:don't be surprised if they upset Oklahoma
