Cam Newton cleared to play by NCAA

None of them are really that liberal because they are all owned by major corporations that benefit from Republican policies, but no one seems to complain about that. The only news network that can be truly liberal is PBS because it's publicly funded. You just don't bite the hand that feeds you. Same concept.

    It's their goal when they want it to be, but they're not going to upset their money conference.

    Why would the NCAA and BCS collude to keep a non-AQ team out of the championship game? The NCAA doesn't make any money on the D-1 college football post season because they aren't in charge of it. They only care about the NCAA basketball tournament because that's where they make all of their money. If anything the NCAA would want to do whatever they could to form a playoff so that they could get a piece of the CFB post-season pie.

    Their goal is to provide entertainment and maximize their revenue stream, so if it would accomplish those goals they would pursue it. If it won't, then they won't.

    This whole thing seems so ridiculous. What a juvenile ruling.

    I guess if Reggie wanted to keep his Heisman all he had to do was say that he had no idea that USC was giving his family benefits.

    Just to clarify- does this mean "case closed", or just that they don't have enough evidence at this time to make a definitive ruling?

    "Based on the information available to the reinstatement staff at this time, we do not have sufficient evidence that Cam Newton or anyone from Auburn was aware of this activity, which led to his reinstatement," said Kevin Lennon, NCAA vice president for academic and membership affairs.
    The NCAA won't say its case is closed on the Newton recruitment even though it clears Newton himself. Its statement notes that reinstatement likely occurs "prior to the close of an investigation."

    Apparently USC athletic director Pat Haden is surprised ad confused by the ruling. They just set a precedent in the Reggie Bush case and made an example out of USC, and not they're setting basically the opposite precedent and letting everyone off scot-free.

    Apparently this goes against a precedent set by the NCAA in 1995 when they ruled Arizona basketball star Damon Stoudemire ineligible for one game because his father received improper without his son's knowledge.

    They haven't found the money trail YET. It may take some time, but eventually the money will come to the surface and he will vacate the Heisman, Auburn will be punished. Makes me think about the skier/football player Jeremy Bloom (I think) from Colorado. The poor kid was ineligible for some endorsements as a skier....Cam Newton is a professional football player.

On a side note, we got alot better weather down here and your son will be what it takes to win a title. Yes, thats right, a title!! Does your mom like Range Rovers or Hummers?

    Yeah, my point has always been that if there is a ruling during the season, there will be no retroactive punishment. A lot of people said there was no chance that would happen...that they wouldn't have any choice but to rule him retroactively ineligible and make Auburn vacate wins. Thats all.

    The weather is different. Not better. As seen by the last 15 days where it's gone from 80 to 40 to 70 to 40 to 80 to 30. Got allergies here because of the humidity. Never had them at all in Ohio or Wyoming.

    Not that it matters because if anyone is expecting the NCAA to be consistent, they probably haven't been following the NCAA for very long...anyway...I think someone posted the rule and pointed out how it says, "on behalf of". Which leaves room for interpretation; if the kid didn't have any knowledge, was the person actually acting "on behalf of" the kid? Clearly, at this time, the NCAA is saying that he wasn't acting "on behalf of" Cam Newton, hence, no punishment.

    WoJo wrote a good scathing article yesterday as well. SportsCenter isn't going to talk a ton or bast the decision because that's not the right venue for it, but all of the opinions shows will certainly talk about it.

    This is an absolute joke. If I was Pat Haden (USC athetic director) , I would be knocking the door down at the NCAA. There really wasn't much difference between what Newton did and what Bush did. Only thing was, it took the NCAA five years to catch Bush, and once they did the investigation, they murdered USC.

    Definitely some shenanigans going on by the NCAA. Seems like there is some protecting going on. If Auburn/Newton gets DQed, TCU is next in line for the title. We all know how the BCS conferences feel about non-AQ schools...
