Notre Dame at Pitt

hoops23I honestly thought it was a forward pass...

Musberger and Herbstreit still shocked by that horseshit call.ccrunner609 wrote: Sorry Guys ND doesnt get all the calls. Looks like I was right on that one -
ZWICK 4 PREZThat was the worst f'in call ive ever seen. How does the ball go forward 10 yards if its fumbled when the defense is comin the opposite direction.

killer_ewok
But didn't you hear....ND gets all the calls....LTrain23 wrote: I honestly thought it was a forward pass... -
rocket31well, i hope we get on the horn with brian kelly...weis will inevitably be fired. id rather see tenuta let go, but it is what it is...
pitt ran threw our defense like a knife through butter. -
ZWICK 4 PREZ
Ask Bernie Kosar.. He made a career of it.ccrunner609 wrote: ^^^^How was it a pass when the ball was under his shoulder? -
rocket31terrible call, but the outcome was pretty much already determined.
notre dame played sloppy on both sides of the ball, but weis' game plan was legit.
tough loss. -
davend/uconn will be a good game.
-
killer_ewokWhy do I even bother. I'm too much of a hater for the homers and I'm too much of a homer for the haters.
I'm going to watch the Cotto-Pacquiao fight.
FIRE WEIS NOW. -

I'm not sure how Weis can have all these 'legit' gameplans, but find himself on the losing end so often?rocket31 wrote: terrible call, but the outcome was pretty much already determined.

you have seen the defense, correct?LTrain23 wrote:

it is really not rocket science. -
KnightRyderpitt just out played ND plain and simple. its obvious ND ISNT A ELITE LEVEL PROGRAM

I saw the defense give ND a chance to win at the end by stopping Pitt twice.rocket31 wrote:

rocket31we can agree to disagree, but it is pretty ignorant IMO to accuse the 11th ranked offensive team in the nation for notre dames problems...
like i said before the problems with notre dame are more on the notre dame defense and less on the notre dame offense. -
hoops23Well, if you truly feel it's the defense, who recruited those defensive players?
To be fair, having the 11th ranked offense means nothing. What has that offense done against top defenses? -
jpake1Bigger question is this-- what has the offense done in the first half the past two games? 3pts. It's pretty ignorant for somebody to say ND's offense isn't part of the problem. It has been the past two weeks. A case of too little too late.

k_boogyHonestly I didnt see anything wrong with the playcalling of Weis. It doesnt help when ND started their first three possessions inside their own 15. To begin the game ND was running the ball well with Allen, he ave. 6.5 yds a carry in the first half. Dont see anything wrong with that. ND did take shots down the field early in the game. The interception and threw a couple that resulted in incompletions because of a mix of not a great throw and pretty darn good defense. ND threw the ball 18 times(sacked once and scrambled once) in the first half and ran it 11 times. 8 of those runs were Allen. Jimmy threw a lot of check down throws in the first half. Not so much in the 2nd half because he knows that he has to score and needs to do it as fast as possible, hes willing to take more chances.
Fact is ND had some drive killers. The screen play where the RT wiffs on the end and Jimmy gets sacked for 14 yds on 2nd and 8. Then their was the shot downfield which was intercepted. Another possession Jimmy completes a pass then throws three straight incomplete passes. That pretty much sums up the first half and early on in the game where some people think Weis is conservative. I really dont think he is all that conservative myself. -

It's good to know that I'm not the only one that thinks the offensive playcalling (particularly early in games) is a problem.jpake1 wrote: Bigger question is this-- what has the offense done in the first half the past two games? 3pts. h2thaizzoI'm wondering if its play calling or what. I saw Clausen quite a few times drop back WAY too far in the box, and try and set up a screen pass that started 5 yards behind the original line of scrimmage. I think he does some things really well, throws a nice ball, but overall isn't there yet. He made the dumb pass into double coverage in the first half that resulted in the turnover.

steel_curtainI'm sick of this crap, ND needs to go, but that was not a fumble, that wa a god damn forward pass, and the fact that they called that a fumble is complete and utter bullshit.
-
newarkcatholicfanThough Pitt played very poorly I am glad they still found away to take this one.

sjmvsfscs08I wasn't a fan of the wildcat plays being used back-to-back, but I understand that every time Golden Tate touches the ball it's a potential touchdown. I didn't think Weis called a conservative game this time around. I could honestly see where killer_ewok was coming from with the previous games, but they took their shots down the field this game, and didn't have much success.
I still believe the best option for Notre Dame would be to replace Jon Tenuta (and maybe Corwin Brown). I thought Notre Dame would come out fired up and pull out a victory. This game started to "snowball" on them in the second half and unfortunately Notre Dame came out on the short end. Golden Tate proved once again he's the man; whereas Clausen took a slight step back, Golden Tate continues to march forward toward New York.
I thought Weis' offensive game plan was just fine. I continue to think he's one of the best offensive minds in the country. I continue to think Weis' needs to replace Jon Tenuta. I continue to think it would be a mistake to fire Weis without prior commitment from a coach they believe to be superior Weis. It would be horrific to watch Notre Dame can Weis to pick up some other project of a coach.
I know it's too early, but is a 9-4 season too terrible? 8-5? -
Cmhs74Can't wait for NBC to sign ND to another TV contract, nothing better than watching a losing team play.

It's about ratings. People watch ND to see them lose just like some watch to see them win.Cmhs74 wrote: Can't wait for NBC to sign ND to another TV contract, nothing better than watching a losing team play. -
killer_ewokSJ-I will give it to you that early on in last night's game Weis took some shots downfield and went play action a few times as well so I was actually pleased with that. However, he seemed to fall back into the same old same old and got conservative until later in the game when ND was down big. I'm not saying that if Herbstreit says it it must be true but during the game he pointed out that Pitt's DB's were sitting on 10-15 yard routes and ND was going going to have to take shots downfield. And he was right.
Should ND have a capable successor in place before they can Weis? I think so. I would get on that right now if I were them because it's inevitable. I appreciate your optimism but 6-6 and a return trip to the Hawaii Bowl is looking more and more likely. And there wasn't a single Notre Dame fan who said that would've been at all acceptable before the season. The schedule was set up nicely, Weis' hand picked players are upperclassmen and experienced. This offense has TWO Heisman trophy candidates on it. If he can't get it done with these guys....who is he going to get it done with? He has never fielded a defense worth a crap since he's been there. I'm sorry but the Charlie Weis experiment needs to end.
Myself and a few others mentioned Jim Harbaugh last week and after yesterday....he has moved to the top of my list. Urban Meyer isn't leaving Florida for ND. Gruden is enthusiastic and has ties to ND but no college head coaching experience. Brian Kelly has a good thing going in Cincy and there are rumors about some skeleton in the closet. I don't know who they can get but they better figure it out and get it right.....soon. Weis has done all he can do at ND. His time is up.
