It's official.....Charlie is gone!

  • DaBrowns41
Say hello to Weis in Cleveland in 2010 as the offensive coordinator.
  • Citybuck
Charlie Weis arrived at Notre Dame flashing Super Bowls rings and talking about outscheming opponents. He leaves one of college football’s most prestigious programs without even matching the records of the two men who were fired before him.
    Can you say overrated.........
  • Pescara71
Yeah I think Charlie was arrogant in the beginning. He was a part of the Patriots cheating, whether he was awrae or not, I don'y know. He just couldn't get it done at ND. And had some tuff breaks and recruited very well considering the aspects of getting highly educated talent to come to ND.

Funny thing though, that I respect about Charlie, I believe he finnally left that NFL attitude behind and made a real connection with them Boys at ND. Not just professionally but REALLY CARED for them. And I RESPECT that, and admire him for that, despite his record.
It was just to little to late for Charlie.

I made this point a ton of times. If the highly rated recruits that end up at ND are overrated, then why did they all receive multiple scholarship offers from the likes of USC, Florida, LSU, Alabama, so forth and so forth?

    Freakin clueless!
I agree that the recruits coming in are big time recruits. Clausen, Tate, Floyd, etc. They need a coach that can develop the talent in South Bend. It's not that the recruits are overrated, it's that they are underdevloped and underachieving.

However this doesn't sound that way: http://newsok.com/bob-stoops-im-going-to-be-in-oklahoma-next-year/article/3421502
This refutes anything saying Stoops is going to ND. Whether he is pulling a Rich Rod or not, I don't know.

That's the transcript, definitely interesting how he worded his responses.
I don't get it either, why not just come out and say "I am not interested in being the coach of Notre Dame and I will be back at Oklahoma next year."

    Boom! End of story.
To get the Oklahoma boosters to throw some more money his way.

Agreed, Weis just couldn't get these guys developed and they played with little emotion. Also, for all his great recruiting efforts, he couldn't land multiple defensive studs which in the end really killed him because the defense was terrible under his watch.

If you read at then end of that story, Stoops says he's not confirming or denying anything. I think he's gone and coming to South Bend.

I think there is definitely a chance, albeit I feel it is a very slim chance, that Stoops goes to ND. It just doesn't look good IMO.

If Stoops was thinking of taking the job, I don't think he would come out right away and say that he doesn't intend on taking any interviews for any other jobs.

You also felt Weis would be given another year. Also, his comment about not interviewing for another job is valid because he already has with ND. No need to interview anymore.

I believed and stated Weis would be given another year if he won out (against UConn and Stanford). He didn't do that, so he is gone.

I just think it is a little wishful thinking on the ND fans part. I think Stoops worded it to leave his options open, but I don't think he goes. If I am wrong, I am wrong and ND fans will have a good coach finally.

Also, a coach with a resume' like Stoops doesn't have to interview, they just get offered the job.

No way..his teams have worse defenses than ND.

    True.

I think Kelly could be one of those high risk, high reward hires. He could turn out to be the savior of the program or he could turn out to be another in a line of duds.

At least with Stoops you know he can lead a prestigious program and he can duke it out with big time competition.

same position urban meyer was in a few years ago before florida hired him and we all know how that turned out...

id be happy to get a handful of these names being tossed around, i am just glad there are attractive candidates to chose from.

Very true. Although, IMO, Urban Meyer was the exception, not the rule. But honestly, I'd like to see ND get a good coach that makes them competitive again. I like rooting against them more when they are one of the top teams. It makes for more excitement when they lose and they are good. When they are expected to lose, it's not as fun.

Only watching Michigan lose every game is fun. ;)

So here's to hoping ND gets a coach that can turn it around.

I wouldn't be pissed if they hired Kelly but his current defensive record scares me, Cincy has been in a couple shootouts here at the end of the season. I'd like to know that if the offense can score 35+ points a game, most of the time you're going to win because you have a solid defense. Although, one thing I did find out about Kelly is he started out as a defensive coordinator so who knows.
  • rocket31
you have to take into consideration the defensive unit kelly has had this season...

correct me if i am wrong, but didnt they replace 10 starters on defense???

...it speaks volumes that former notre dame QB demetrius jones is LB for cincy this season

when a former QB is playing LB you know there are defensive talent issues :]
  • rock_knutne
Again, I wouldn't have an issue with Kelly being hired. If he's the man I just hope ND can get back to playing good defense like they did under Holtz.
  • h2thaizzo
I don't know how we could call what happened to Weis being fired. He will be making 18 million dollars to not coach football at Notre Dame anymore. To me, its more of an extended vacation.
